The society described is a boring-ass soul-crushingly conformist cookie cutter suburb, as in, exactly the sort of "good old American small town" conservatives like Shapiro champion

The only difference is that in the society in the book, the boring-ass cookie cutter housing was guaranteed and rent-free

Yes, but did you consider that the grocery store in the communist dystopia only has three brands of breakfast cereal whereas in the capitalist suburb it has twelve brands of cereal?

It is made out of 57 subcommunities. And everyone wears a tan suit. And they salute the soldiers with a latte. And their soldiers aren't even bears of men.

If your soldiers aren't six-three barefoot bears of men in their underwear what is your military even doing?

It gets funnier when you remember that this roller-backpack-on-legs thought he was gonna make it in Hollywood selling scripts

I have never heard of this, can I get a link?

[–] BeanisBrain@hexbear.net 13 points 2 months ago (1 children)

The anthology is called "What's Fair: And Other Short Stories." This video discusses it but I can't point you to a specific place for pirate-jammin

I found a YouTube link in your comment. Here are links to the same video on alternative frontends that protect your privacy:

I found out about the short stories and novel he wrote from the videos by the person you linked elsewhere in the thread. After that, it was obvious to see why he never had any chance of a Hollywood career even being a nepo baby.

The novel is probably worse just for the ridiculous premise and the staggeringly racist description of the black football player.

staggeringly racist description of the black football player.

In another one of his books, True Allegiance, in the dramatis personae section, he describes one of his black characters as an "inner city race hustler."

Amazing that he also has a law degree from Harvard lmao

inner city race hustler

dang, new linkedin bio just dropped

[–] BelieveRevolt@hexbear.net 7 points 2 months ago

Yeah, True Allegiance is the novel he wrote. IIRC the character you mentioned is also a moustache-twirlingly evil grifter who's only interested in money.
