Surgical tech here! This is one of those 'prank the new guy' jokes you see in the OR. I've seen play out almost verbatim to the OP a couple different times.
Original OP may well be quoting Scrubs, but I'd wager this prank predates Scrubs by a hefty margin too.
"Go get me a jug of elbow grease" kind of shenanigans.
I am quite certain the scrubs writers just talked to a lot of people in the profession and got their stories in the show. That's part of why Scrubs was such a great show.
But someone said: I'M DYING Therefore it's funny
I'M FUCKING DYING
Oh man, and a swear too?
Must've been pretty funny.
That counts as a true story when you've got the brain rot.
Or (hear me out) the writers of Scrubs worked a lot of true stories into their show?
And unless the person was present in one of those true stories moments where this exact dialog occurred, my point remains.

It's funnier when you realize the med student and surgeon are not in an operating room.

This was posted just yesterday without the random reply which adds absolutely nothing. It's the same as spamming emojis on a border around the image.
The random reply was from the person who had their bowel perforated.
They were dying when the fart took place but doctor saved them, so they are just stating the facts really.
That replier may be medically dying in the literal sense, or fucking the concept at the very least; username implies a "fun fact giver" character.
