I'm sure they'll fight just as hard as when they took a stand against Republicans and got the ACA subsidies back....oh, wait, they didn't do shit because the party is pathetic and folks like a bitch when the rubber his the road.
Just as theyre paid to do
I'd be nice if they kept their word but I'm not betting on it.
It's not Schumer saying they're gonna do it like he's leading a charge...
It's Schumer pre-emptivly taking credit for what's inevitable.
Otherwise he'd just keep blabbering about compromise.
That's why I'd bet on it.
Chuck is literally insane. What a goofball. I wonder what the Bailey's thought about ICE executing that VA nurse today. Probably sealed their 4th trump vote. jfc...
Oh they'll get a little bit of news coverage for a little while and then just vote for the funding anyway.
I swear to God they will vote to ban being able to film ICE while funding them with "required" body cams. I swear to fucking God. I think of the dumbest thing the Democrats can do and then they do something even dumber. So I shouldn't even say anything.
Schumer will sell out the American people. I guarantee it
You mean again, right?
As is tradition.
Yep
I have 0 faith they will actually put their money where their mouth is. Time and time again they prove to be a feckless group of cowards.
In the words of the Joker:
If you're with me, I can promise you that I will be behind you ALL THE WAY. Sometimes, that might mean I'm locked up tight in a bomb proof bunker behind you, but don't worry! I'll always make sure you are there to protect me.
This is true. They have no feck.
I don't believe anything this guys says
They will say all the right things; draw it out for a month, then vote to back state sponsored murder of USA citizens, just like they did with health care last year.
The pressure to fund the IRS and therefore process returns and refunds will be huge. It's literally the built in exist to fund this. You either deny funding and Americans don't get their refunds or you fund it and the United States continues to brutalize it's citizens.
Democrats are so good at losing that it became their only tool.
Shutdown risk? How about the risks of not shutting down this government
Right? Turn it off and put it away. This one's clearly broken.
Schumer, this is your one chance in history to do the right thing.
Don't fuck this up like you fuck yo everything else.
You mean 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th,...... This isn't his first rodeo to screw everyone
This is different. This is a history defining moment.
So was the last one just a couple months ago
Guy. A battle over entitlements is NOT the same as a battle over whether the Gestapo can continue to act.
Or you know funding said gestapo... But we will just agree to disagree and hope he finally does something
All our government is doing is ripping us off, hassling working people, threatening our allies, and murdering people in the streets. What is the fucking point of keeping it operational?
Why the fuck would anyone even consider funding this? It’s almost as if democrats wake up every day and find a new, more pathetic way to be spineless cucks.
Who gives a shit at this point. Democrats have completely blocked a political path to a nonviolent outcome through their unwillingness to take seriously shitting down the government previously.
Do the ~~right~~ most-basic-easy-low-effort-sign-of-resistance thing
America is dead
It's what the Bailey's would want. I asked them.
lmfao
I just learned about this yesterday from that John Oliver segment. I knew Chuck was detached from reality, but holy fucking shit. He's insane.
What's more stupid is that even his imaginary friends voted against him.
"And another one!"
Strongly-worded letter to follow.
I am pretty amazed at the hate and negativity towards Dems. They condemned the murder that happened and nothing but hate in this thread. Dems do not have a majority in any branch of government, what exactly can they do? They look weak because they actually do not have any power. Instead of directing the hate towards people calling victims domestic terrorists the hate is directed towards the only allies we have government.
what exactly can they do?
Stop worrying about what's legal and start worrying about what's right. If one of them actually took a stand and started some shit people would back them.
Not true actually, they could have blocked the ACA funding cuts but magically just enough dems switched to allow the wildly unpopular cuts. The Republicans didn't shut down the government by voting no on a temporary resolution that would cut aca funding, the dems did, then said haha just kidding as soon as they got support for blocking it (???)
They did block the funding cuts in the longest shutdown the country has seen (so far). I was disappointed in the cuts but Dems were running out of options, Republicans were talking about getting rid of the filibuster, which they will do if Dems block them for too long. Ending the shutdown allowed for the vote on the Epstein files. It also hung the consequences of the cuts on the current administration while also making a statement that the Dems were against it. If they had held out, it's likely they would lose even more power. Let's face it, in the current political climate the Dems have a very shitty hand. Direct the hate where it belongs: Republicans.
The dems had the support of their entire base and most of the country, Republicans ending the philibuster and shoving it through anyway would have been extremely unpopular, even among their base. Everyone I knew was talking about how the Republicans were refusing to negotiate, then right after everyone was talking about how the dems folded as they always do.. Even if they DID end the philibuster, it would show people democrats are finally trying every option possible like the Republicans have been doing for the last 10 years. The dems can make whatever statement they want, Republicans will enforce a police state but at least I know my representative was upset about it. Yes we got the epstein files with about 2 lines unredacted, I think most people would prefer their representatives fight for their healthcare instead.
This is also not a 1 time thing, Republicans philibuster Obama's scotus pick, and democrats say "well that's improper we can't do that back." Just about every chance they've had to fold they have and people are sick of it. If someone is beating a person up and I wag my finger at them, I'm not as bad as the person beating them up, but I'm sure not doing anything to stop it.
Getting rid of the filibuster would be good for our Democracy. That's what has been used regularly by Republicans to stall and blockade acts in the Senate. Would that have happened? I don't think so. Trump was demanding Republicans to remove the Filibuster on Truth, but Trump's Truth Social posts are the least consistent metric for what this administration will do.
About the shutdown: from a humanitarian view, communities were banding together; giving with food drives and free meals to feed people when SNAP benefits were withheld -- and that withholding was being challenged in the courts. Lower courts sided with the states on giving out that money. The SCotUS ended up copping out on making a decision because the shutdown was reversed. Had they made a choice, I think the SNAP benefits would have been distributed. At the very least, Senate Dems could have waited until the ruling was made.
You know what communities can't band together to distribute? Healthcare. The ACA funding was far more important than SNAP benefits.
