The NFL’s decision to feature Latin artist Bad Bunny at halftime has already sparked controversy in some conservative circles, with critics arguing that his predominantly Spanish-language music and stances on issues such as immigration make him an unconventional pick for the game’s massive audience.

His 2025 song “Nuevayol” features an imitated Trump voice saying, “I want to apologize to the immigrants in America. . . . This country is nothing without the immigrants. This country is nothing without Mexicans, Dominicans, Puerto Ricans, Colombians, Venezuelans, Cubans.”

Green Day, which formed in the East Bay Area in the 1980s, is set to perform during the game’s opening ceremony. Frontman Billie Joe Armstrong has long denounced the administration and has altered the lyrics of the band’s 2004 Grammy-nominated song “American Idiot” during live performances, changing the line “I’m not a part of a redneck agenda” to “I’m not a part of a MAGA agenda.”

In July, Armstrong led a Download Festival crowd in a chant calling Trump a “fat bastard.”

[–] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 19 points 8 hours ago (1 children)

Yup. He's likely not to get lots of adulation from conservatives that clap like seals whenever he mumbles out stupid shit like happens at his stupid road shows.

[–] SnarkoPolo@lemmy.world 2 points 3 hours ago

There's a reason he doesn't do them anymore. Either he's too sick, or there's just not enough interest, even from his most bigly followers.

Trump throwing a tantrum about the Super Bowl is the least of my concerns right now.

[–] Salamanderwizard@lemmy.world 2 points 3 hours ago

How about you kys T man. Do us all a favor.

[–] Tempus_Fugit@lemmy.world 52 points 8 hours ago (1 children)

We already know he's anti-America. I can't wait to take a shit on his grave. That will be a great day.

[–] meejle@lemmy.world 23 points 8 hours ago (3 children)

Hope his ghoulish family shoves him under a golf course and forgets about him, like he did with Ivana.

It might even be worth that big glass of milk, followed up by some ice cream for that kind of occasion.

I'm still holding out for the gas station option

[–] vaultdweller013@sh.itjust.works 2 points 6 hours ago

We really need to dig her up and give her a proper grave eventually.

[–] EmpireInDecay@lemmy.ml 9 points 6 hours ago (1 children)

He doesn't want to be present when Green Day has the crowd chanting Fuck Donald Trump, Fuck ICE, and Fuck Government?

[–] GladiusB@lemmy.world 1 points 2 hours ago

It's also in Green Day's home town (a few small cities away) the Bay Area. He will get no love here.

[–] Flying_Lynx@lemmy.ml 3 points 4 hours ago

nothing of value....

Green Day has been protesting presidents since their band formed

This sounds like a win.

From all the way back when we thought Dubya was as bad as it could get:

Don't wanna be an American idiot

Don't want a nation under the new media

And can you hear the sound of hysteria?

The subliminal mind fuck America

Welcome to a new kind of tension

All across the alienation

Where everything isn't meant to be okay

Television dreams of tomorrow

We're not the ones who're meant to follow

For that's enough to argue

Well maybe I'm the faggot America

I'm not a part of a redneck agenda

Now everybody do the propaganda

And sing along to the age of paranoia

Welcome to a new kind of tension

All across the alienation

Where everything isn't meant to be okay

Television dreams of tomorrow

We're not the ones who're meant to follow

For that's enough to argue

Yeah, he's totally saying alienation.

Totally.

Not Aryan nation.

... Yep. Its an ... angsty song, not a protest song.

Mhm.

This isn't the early 2000s, pretty much any video player can slow down without audio distortion. Play that back at 50% speed and find me that R you're talking about. I'm not hearing it.

Even with how mad MAGA supposedly is, I betcha $10 this will be the most popular Super Bowl of the decade. I think the internet and news media vastly overestimate MAGA's influence on the daily lives of every American. I live in a big red county in a rural area and lemme tell ya, basically nobody gives a shit about 70% of what the internet and the news says they do. I'm not saying they are saints, I'm just saying that when you see "MAGA angry at [blank]" most of the time it's literally just, like, a Reddit post, a few tweets, or some right wing podcaster.

[–] HamFistedVegan@lemmy.world 2 points 6 hours ago (1 children)

I think the internet and news media vastly overestimate MAGA's influence on the daily lives of every American.

I'm not saying it's right but it seems to be the only logical explanation for everything.

How else do you look at what's going on and explain that 49% of Americans voted for this?

That's a genuine question. I'm not being facetious.

[–] TommySoda@lemmy.world 4 points 4 hours ago* (last edited 2 hours ago)

49% of Americans didn't vote for this. 49% of those that voted in 2024 technically voted for this whether they were aware or not. Only about 62% of the population voted in 2024 so including those that voted third party, realistically only about 20% - 30% voted for this. And that doesn't include those that voted based on things like affordability without realizing the choice they were actually making. Add those that regret their vote and you have a very small percentage of people that actually voted for this specific outcome. Sure you can look at polls but those only account for people that were interested in participating in polls, which MAGA loves to be vocal about their opinion.

In my opinion, they are trying to make us feel isolated and alone when in fact we are literally surrounded by people that are on your side. They'll say "you voted for this" in the same way an abuser says "you did this to yourself."

Edit: Spelling

In other news, Trump made a cryptic post on Truth Social, stating “Some of you guys are alright. Don’t go to major sporting events in the next two weeks if you’re in the southwest.”

It is unclear what the President meant by this. However, it should be noted that President Trump has not been presented with an NFL Peace Prize, and may not feel obligated to think purely of peace.

[–] Darkassassin07@lemmy.ca 7 points 8 hours ago (2 children)

Damn; every missed public event is a missed opportunity to shoot that POS right in the face.

[–] ClassStruggle@lemmy.ml 1 points 7 hours ago

I wouldn't be sad

[–] INHALE_VEGETABLES@aussie.zone -2 points 8 hours ago

Cool fedpost bro!

[–] KingGordon@lemmy.world 1 points 5 hours ago

The hurtest butt.

[–] Bubbaonthebeach@lemmy.ca 2 points 6 hours ago

I'm not one who would ever attend a SuperBowl however I imagine many people who would aren't unhappy that Trump will give it a miss.

[–] friend_of_satan@lemmy.world 2 points 6 hours ago

What a badge of honor for them.

[–] Itdidnttrickledown@lemmy.world 1 points 5 hours ago (1 children)

Makes me kinda wanna watch the superb owl.

[–] wonderingwanderer@sopuli.xyz 2 points 2 hours ago* (last edited 2 hours ago)

Yeah, I'm not into football, but who better than Greenday to channel the collective rage and angst that we're all feeling right now? They're the *original" channelers of rage and angst!

[–] realitista@lemmus.org 1 points 5 hours ago

Super Bowl will be way better!

[–] wirebeads@lemmy.ca 3 points 7 hours ago

It’s most likely because it’s too hard to change his diaper there in public and to be fair, those are older men and he likes them younger, and snuffed out.

It’s time for America to put commander bone spurs out to pasture.

Also. How about those Epstein files?
