There's this odd thing social democrats do, where they act like imperialism is what prevents us from having free healthcare or college or parental leave. It's the exact opposite, European social democracies were able to achieve those things because of imperialism. The empire creates jobs, creates export markets, provides cheap imports, provides plentiful resources for exploitation, displaces imperialized workers who are forced to work for low wages in the metropoles to provide remittances, prevents overseas competition, and ensures currency dominance. Social democracy is objectively the moderate wing of fascism.
The US is a special case because its colonialism has always been turned inward. Colonized subjects within the US don't get to benefit from imperialism, so no free healthcare or college. Instead, work sets you free and service guarantees citizenship. You only get to have healthcare or college or parental leave if you "deserve" it. The US doesn't have a moderate wing of its fascism.

This is off topic but with a little mutual aid group I do on Mondays I got into it with another member who was going off on "China bad, China = authoritarian" nonsense. Without getting into the weeds too much at one point she said that rather than China she would rather live in a socialist country like they have in Europe and I just about raged out. What no theory does to MFer. Western ~~"leftists"~~ libs really think social democracy is socialism and that socialism is fascism, she really called China fascist.
How do we even get through to these people that socialism isn't about social welfare but actually about workers control over the means of production? I swear to god some of these people think socialism begins and ends at the state giving out free shit
