It's everywhere. Tech hiring is shit right now. People are saying as bad as 2009

[–] Snort_Owl@hexbear.net 19 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago)

Investment banks are still hiring like crazy but they tend to churn through people you can’t really survive in one long term cos they quite literally grind people into dust. My place hasn’t hired a single new person since 2020 and our team has only seen cuts and its hitting breaking point but theyre having fun seeing how few people are needed to run the team it seems.

If we ask for new people the answer is always offshore. But only for tech people, project managers get replaced instantlythonk

Feels like 2001, just after the tech bust.

This isn't an Israel exclusive thing, it's an everywhere thing. With the end of COVID lockdowns and the introduction of AI, getting a job in the IT industry or even just software development is much more difficult than before.

This graph is amazing to me because my leadership at my job, during all of 2022-2024 was LAYING PEOPLE OFF and saying "oh it's time to cut costs" while everyone else was expanding. Today, it's not like they're doing the inverse of everyone else and hiring. nope they're still laying people off.

I think this a Palestinian from Israel

[–] LeninWeave@hexbear.net 11 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago) (1 children)

Yeah, I thought it was odd that they referred to it as "Israel/Palestine" and "technically in Israel". Has to be either a Palestinian or one of the very few "Israelis" left who aren't the reincarnation of hitler.

[–] chloroken@lemmy.ml 27 points 4 days ago (2 children)

The "Israel/Palestine" thing is infuriating me.

[–] Awoo@hexbear.net 20 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago)

Reads like a person that isn't pro-Israel to me. They're acknowledging that it is Palestine but if they just say Palestine that could be confused for Gaza, so they're also saying Israel to make it clear they're within the borders currently labelled Israel. Also they're trying to get out, so there is that.

Doesn't "engineer with no local citizenship" imply they are Palestinian?

[–] buckykat@hexbear.net 23 points 4 days ago (1 children)

I read it as no local citizenship in whatever other countries they're trying to flee to

[–] regul@hexbear.net 4 points 4 days ago

Oh right on. That makes sense.

[–] chloroken@lemmy.ml 13 points 4 days ago (1 children)

I read it as a Palestinian living in Israel. But either way it's such a crazy statement.

So everyone want to take a bet that he's one of the 3 Israelis who acknowledge the state of Palestine and not a settler living in the West Bank on land soaked in barely dried blood? ( I guess they could be a Palestinian in Israel proper, but if that's the case there's a reason no one in Israel is hiring you buddy)

[–] MohammedTheCommunistPalestinian@hexbear.net 8 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago)

very likely an "Arab Israeli" so Palestinian in Israel

[–] nfreak@lemmy.ml 6 points 4 days ago

tbf a good amount of younger folks born and raised there are rejecting the brainwashing and propaganda. Not a substantial enough movement to put a dent in the machine, but still noteworthy enough.

I have visited Sinai many times and Jordan twice, the last time in 2021. I didn't feel any hostility toward me or my family. But I didn't dare to open Grindr, let's say. Petra was more neglected than we expected and entrance was expensive (50 dinars per person if I remember correctly), but in general Aqaba in Jordan was stunning. In Sinai in my opinion it is important to take a good hotel because the bad hotels are really neglected and it is not recommended to get stuck in a bad hotel, and it is also important to stock up on sunscreen if you plan to travel a lot. In Turkey (which is not an Arab country) we even met a lovely Iranian couple. I emphasize that all of this was until 2021. In recent years, I haven't left Israel. As long as we didn't raise any political issue, everything was excellent. If you are planning to visit an Arab country, I recommend that you do not open any political issue and do not let anyone raise such an issue with you, it is too explosive and with all due respect if you are not in Israel it is a risk that is not worth taking.

technically I live in Israel. I don't usually call it by this name alone because i get easily triggered

Here's additional stuff to help y'all answer the burning question.

He also talks about how Germany would be his proffered place to go in Europe, because minority rights, mentions that he doesn't want to go into politics. Oh nvm here's something I scrolled past:

Pro-Palestinian and pro-Israeli are not the problem. I say that I am Israeli without a problem. If someone asks or comments, I present my point of view on things directly and try not to wash words. Usually this reassures them that not all Israelis enlist in the IDF and support the government's actions. It gives hope and this is where a conversation can begin. I'm really tired so this time I won't dig. There is no shame in being Israeli, there is shame in being blind to hatred, and this is a difference that we all need to learn. Good night.

oh no! anyway,

[–] xijinpingist@hexbear.net 4 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Whatever that graphic is is way too small to read and it seems the lynchpin of the whole post.

Its probably like this
