Cops are too dumb to be cops

[–] Yeller_king@reddthat.com 21 points 10 hours ago (1 children)

And yet...ICE agents are even dumber

[–] modus@lemmy.world 6 points 8 hours ago (1 children)

That's why they get extra immunity. It's just like saying "aww... He's mentally retarded. He's doesn't know any better."

[–] bitjunkie@lemmy.world 5 points 7 hours ago

mentally retarded

Excuse me, I believe the term is Republican-American

[–] BruisedMoose@piefed.social 18 points 10 hours ago

For basically as long as they've been around, I've mostly dismissed the Murphys as "too Boston" (which, in this sense, means dickish Boston Irish). But these last few years have really shown me I was just an idiot and they are exactly the kind of Boston Irish I want around.

[–] gwl@lemmy.blahaj.zone 4 points 8 hours ago

Kinda slept on them for a while tbh, I'll have to check em out properly

I recently learned there was a Trump-supporting bar near me with one of those TouchTune jukeboxes you can control remotely. Me and some other people started commandeering it with requests, but sadly a lot of picks were not available— namely Nazi Punks Fuck Off.

If this could make its way into the TouchTunes library, I would be soooooo happy.

[–] bitjunkie@lemmy.world 3 points 7 hours ago

In my youth my friend and I literally chased a pack of 6 or 7 Proud Boys out of a pool hall by just singing this song really aggressively at them lol… I highly recommend calling them out irl, they're a bunch of tough talking pussies

[–] SlippiHUD@lemmy.world 11 points 11 hours ago* (last edited 11 hours ago)

What's New Pussy Cat on repeat is always fun.

[–] NickwithaC@lemmy.world 9 points 11 hours ago

Be sure to throw in one It's Not Unusual in the middle.

[–] LorIps@lemmy.world 7 points 11 hours ago* (last edited 11 hours ago)

"Schrei nach Liebe" bei Die Ärzte is a good options if they have that.

[–] DueStreet@lemmy.zip 1 points 7 hours ago

I’ve done this before for another reason, never thought to find the local MAGA hangout and try this. Thanks for the tip man!

[–] Fondots@lemmy.world 27 points 18 hours ago (2 children)

I drove a Nazi out of a bar that way a few weeks back

My friend works security there and sent me a pic of a guy wearing a shirt with SS lightning bolts on it

Manager wouldn't let him kick the guy out because he wasn't otherwise causing an issue, and I wasn't available to go help cause a scene to give him an excuse, but I was able to queue up every anti-fascist song I could find on there and he up and left within an hour

I consider those touchtunes credits to be money well-spent

[–] Prior_Industry@lemmy.world 12 points 9 hours ago

Short sighted of that manager, you don't want more of those guys turning up if they think they are welcome. Unless he wants to run a nazi bar.

[–] explodicle@sh.itjust.works 21 points 17 hours ago

Nazi shirt: "here's a credible threat to murder people"

Manager: "I don't see an issue"

[–] shredslen@lemmy.world 3 points 11 hours ago

The bar can also choose what cant be played. Unfortunate really.

I know that many departments have a maximum intelligence limit, but is "too dumb to be a cop" really thing?

[–] UnspecificGravity@piefed.social 13 points 19 hours ago

Ice pays less than most local law enforcement jobs and they don't have to lie about what they do for a living. No one with a real choice is choosing ice.

[–] Kirp123@lemmy.world 54 points 1 day ago (3 children)

Didn't it come out that some ICE goons don't know how to read or write?

[–] Xaphanos@lemmy.world 29 points 1 day ago (4 children)

Half of the country reads at 5th grade level or below.

[–] gwl@lemmy.blahaj.zone 3 points 8 hours ago* (last edited 8 hours ago)

That factoid keeps getting pulled out.

It's literally untrue, or at the very least misrepresented.

Half of the country of the USA have only passed 6th Grade English exams.

That does not mean they are incapable, just that they've only got a little piece of paper somewhere saying "I passed a test!" up to that point.

https://porchroot.substack.com/p/why-half-of-americans-read-like-theyre

[–] vaultdweller013@sh.itjust.works 7 points 18 hours ago

I'd put that down to atrophied reading skills. Actual illiteracy is usually a sign that someone never learned, there's also functional illiteracy wherein someone can technically read and write but they aren't interacting with it beyond parroting the words.

[–] GuyFawkesV@lemmy.world 24 points 1 day ago

And it’s clear those ICE motherfuckers ain’t in the top half.

[–] grimpy@lemmy.myserv.one 12 points 22 hours ago

ICE: setting a new standard for police across the country

[–] Semi_Hemi_Demigod@lemmy.world 39 points 1 day ago (2 children)

If you can find it the Murphys’ St. Patrick’s Day show from 2024 was amazing. Billy Bragg played and Woody Guthrie’s daughter came on stage.

Best concert I’ve moshed alone to in my living room since 2020

[–] grimpy@lemmy.myserv.one 12 points 22 hours ago (1 children)

mosh alone if you must my friend

[–] Semi_Hemi_Demigod@lemmy.world 5 points 18 hours ago

The 2020 Murphys livestream had one guy, moshing for all of us.

They’ve streamed it every year since and I never miss it

[–] return2ozma@lemmy.world 5 points 23 hours ago

Saw them live years ago. So many bruises from the pit. Worth it

Saw these guys at Louder than Life in 2024. It was muddy as fuck because it basically monsooned the day before, and was still drizzling on and off that day. I was soaked to the bone, covered in mud up to my thighs, and I'd do it again in a heartbeat. Definitely one of the funnest, most high energy performances of the whole weekend.

[–] nickiwest@lemmy.world 5 points 22 hours ago (1 children)

Has there ever been a year when Louder than Life wasn't muddy as fuck?

That song is beautiful and I love Dropkick Murphys!

[–] aceshigh@lemmy.world 12 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Jesse welles also has a great song. It’s very catchy.

[–] ibelieveinthehousehippo@lemmy.ca -1 points 8 hours ago

He also has a song lamenting the death of Charlie Kirk so fuck him

[–] Rhoeri@piefed.world 8 points 1 day ago (1 children)

They pulled an Elton John. It’s a reworded version of a song they already played.

MUCH better to do so in order to mock the modern Gestapo than to praise a princess, though 🤷

[–] floofloof@lemmy.ca 8 points 1 day ago (2 children)

I know it's pedantic, but many of them are ex-military. It's part of why they're so primed to shoot anyone they find inconvenient.

[–] Akasazh@lemmy.world 4 points 12 hours ago

The song is supposed to anger them. I love factuality like any other, but in this case I'm totally fine.

[–] theuniqueone@lemmy.dbzer0.com 7 points 1 day ago (2 children)

yep unfortunately even people criticizing ICE often refuse to critically examine the military which is much much worse.
