When are our generals going to revolt? These are not legal orders.

[–] justOnePersistentKbinPlease@fedia.io 88 points 2 months ago (1 children)

The ones that quit were the ones that would.

[–] VindictiveJudge@lemmy.world 22 points 1 month ago

Which is exactly why I hated them resigning in protest.

[–] Kirp123@lemmy.world 58 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Remember when the government was shut down and some billionaire friend of Trump stepped in and paid the military? Your generals are not gonna revolt, they're already paid off.

[–] pelespirit@sh.itjust.works 26 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Idk, hegseth called them all fat, not sure if they'll forget that.

[–] Poppa_Mo@lemmy.world 21 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Ahh yes. Our military is known for having the fragile ego of a teen girl.

Hegseth said they were fat so surely now they won't listen.

[–] 0_o7@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 1 month ago

Not about fragile ego, just bootlicking, now turned boot-throating.

Ego is when you have self-respect.

[–] NoneOfUrBusiness@fedia.io 24 points 2 months ago

Why do you expect the military leaders of the most utterly reprehensible empire of our times, which has killed millions, displaced tens of millions and condemned hundreds of millions to poverty within living memory, to have a conscience? These people are gangsers for capitalism, and capitalism has spoken; the law is secondary.

[–] mrmaplebar@fedia.io 22 points 2 months ago (1 children)

They like money and power as much as the next fascist politicians.

Let's not pretend like the US armed forces aren't full of right wing militants just waiting for their moment to kill.

[–] P00ptart@lemmy.world 3 points 1 month ago

Combat duty pays quite a bit better.

[–] gravitas_deficiency@sh.itjust.works 64 points 2 months ago (2 children)

He has also (today) suggested invading Cuba, he's bombing Nigeria and Somalia, and he hasn't stopped talking about annexing Greenland and Canada. So that's at least 7 countries in his sights.

[–] SpaceNoodle@lemmy.world 35 points 2 months ago

So much peace

[–] Insekticus@aussie.zone 21 points 2 months ago (3 children)

The dumb cunt clearly doesnt know about not starting wars on multiple fronts. Historically, it's not a great idea.

America is collectively suffering the FO. Trump just does the FA.

[–] Galapagon@sh.itjust.works 5 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Seemed to work out better for the civilians though, so maybe usa should invade Poland??

[–] cybervseas@lemmy.world 4 points 2 months ago

It’s January. The perfect time to do it.

He'll bring peace to the world even if it kills us all. Like some sort of peace maker, if you will.

[–] Formfiller@lemmy.world 4 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (1 children)

There will be peace after the apocalyptic nuclear war and everyone is dead

I feel I'm getting repetitive with this, but this has always been the case. This latest escapade is basically Iraq but with a veneer of Libya.

[–] glorkon@lemmy.world 48 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago) (3 children)

What's stopping China from invading Taiwan, now that America has shown the world once again that you can rob another country's resources with impunity if you're a nuclear superpower?

[–] resipsaloquitur@lemmy.world 19 points 1 month ago (1 children)

This was the plan. Donald had been weirdly quiet about China in general and Taiwan in particular.

He, Xi, and Putin have carved the world up into spheres.

[–] BarneyPiccolo@lemmy.today 13 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (2 children)

That's right. Trump gets the Western Hemisphere, Putin Gets Europe and West Asia, and China get the rest of Asia. Africa will be exploited by EVERYBODY.

[–] andxz@lemmy.world 6 points 1 month ago

When did everyone not exploit Africa since its discovery by non-native cultures, ever?

Not disagreeing with you either, I just find it sad.

[–] TankovayaDiviziya@lemmy.world 18 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago) (1 children)

It's what I say and will always say until the United States fully reform: Trump is merely showing what America truly is which many people pretend not to be.

[–] 0_o7@lemmy.dbzer0.com 8 points 1 month ago

That's "~~American~~ Yankistani exceptionalism"

Some unhinged people attack US:

Their nationality, ethnicity, and religion are now all considered terrorists

US attacks some country unprovoked:

The great liberator that can do no wrong.

[–] TipRing@lemmy.world 39 points 2 months ago (11 children)

This is the Heritage Foundation. Trump is their puppet.

[–] Formfiller@lemmy.world 8 points 1 month ago

Yep. The heritage foundation is the colonialist think tank running on pseudoscience, christofacism and racism.

Mexico is an oil producing nation, so, let's start the timer.

[–] affenlehrer@feddit.org 13 points 2 months ago (1 children)

And there are drug cartels, could reuse the same playbook.

[–] prole@lemmy.blahaj.zone 7 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago)

If he goes into Mexico, then 9/11 is going to look like child's play. Those motherfuckers are ruthless, and they are so much closer to us than Saudi Arabia/Afghanistan.

[–] arcticx@lemmy.ml 6 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Lithium is the nationalized resource we want from Mexico

[–] bdonvr@thelemmy.club 27 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago) (3 children)

Mexico, Greenland, maybe Colombia. Anything else you want me to pick up while I'm out?

[–] TheJesusaurus@sh.itjust.works 16 points 2 months ago

At this point I kind of want him to bring up Canada again, just to watch our economy fully decouple from them

[–] Thorry@feddit.org 7 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago)

He mentioned Cuba on ~~hit~~ wish list

[–] Sharkticon@lemmy.zip 6 points 1 month ago
[–] BarneyPiccolo@lemmy.today 9 points 1 month ago

He mentioned the Monroe Doctrine during his announcement this morning, and he doesn't know what that is, or who Monroe was, but he has been told enough for him to believe that it means America has the right to control the entire Western Hemisphere.

[–] porcoesphino@mander.xyz 8 points 2 months ago (1 children)

I was curious what was actually said by Mexico and here are the quotes:

Trump hinted at a future conflict with Mexico in particular in an interview with Fox News Saturday morning.

“Your vice president, JD Vance, said that the message is pretty clear: that drug trafficking must stop. So was this operation a message that you’re sending to Mexico, to Claudia Sheinbaum, the president there?” Fox’s Griff Jenkins asked.

“Well, it wasn’t meant to be, we’re very friendly with her, she’s a good woman,” Trump began. “But the cartels are running Mexico. She’s not running Mexico.”

“We could be politically correct and be nice and say, ‘Oh, yes, she is.’ No, no. She’s very, you know, she’s very frightened of the cartels. They’re running Mexico. And I’ve asked her numerous times, ‘Would you like us to take out the cartels?’ ... Something is gonna have to be done with Mexico.”

[–] Lemminary@lemmy.world 3 points 1 month ago (9 children)

She’s not running Mexico

This is the stupidest trope being driven by the Right everywhere, including our own opposition. She has been doing wonderful things for the country.

I'm just incredibly sad that the moment we actually get a competent president, one who acts on behalf of the people, one with a relevant college education, and the first woman in history to be our president, we won't get the chance to really savor the moment and see her actions through to some permanent change. Everything was going so well, man. I'm growing very resentful of Trump for this. It feels like we're getting our wings clipped fast.
