Laughs in celebrating new year’s at home

[–] ameancow@lemmy.world 1 points 5 minutes ago* (last edited 4 minutes ago)

Hey introverts, if it's just some friends getting together, go hang out with them. You're not introverted, you're out of shape. Flex those muscles a little and force yourself to rebuild community.

Community is what will save our future more than any amount of posting or tweeting or advocacy about whatever this week's social issue is. Stop wearing your labels and excuses like a shield to keep yourself from doing the hard things.

No, shut up. I don't want to hear it. Do or do not, there is no try.

I'm so glad that my partner and I just stay in and enjoy each other's company with some drinks. Going out on NYE is absolutely god awful.

[–] CidVicious@sh.itjust.works 15 points 3 hours ago (2 children)

I mean, some people enjoy going out into energetic crowds.

[–] TrickDacy@lemmy.world -2 points 2 hours ago (1 children)

Yup, and those are the people pressuring the 90% who don't to come out anyhow lol

[–] Akasazh@feddit.nl 6 points 2 hours ago (1 children)

You could always not give a shit

[–] TrickDacy@lemmy.world 2 points 1 hour ago

I'm definitely there! I just remember the bad times I had a few times when I did succumb to that pressure.

Some people enjoy pay all of their money to play cards, too.

And others pay money to gain cancer.

Like imagine getting cancer treatment in a hospital and looking out the window and seeing someone smoking. Two people doing the exact opposite things.

[–] serpineslair@lemmy.world 1 points 40 minutes ago

Some people pay money to enjoy their lives, and savour every moment, even if it means cutting the crap a little short.

I don't smoke, as the risk/reward isn't worth it to me personally, but if it's what it takes for others to be happy, all the power to em. Knock themselves out. Literally heh.

I'd rather live 50-60yrs to their fullest, than live 80-90 mediocre years inside watching the latest Netflix crap or tv repeats (not to say there aren't times when I enjoy it).

this is the worst comic ive ever seen. 3 frames are literally just the same drawing

[–] Bongles@lemmy.zip 9 points 3 hours ago (1 children)

Seriously, draw people getting into a place, draw them getting drinks, draw them waiting for Uber or some shit.

[–] blinfabian@feddit.nl 5 points 3 hours ago

they can even have a :( face while looking at $$$ labels on the drinks. instead theyre just expressionless

[–] Bamboodpanda@lemmy.world 4 points 2 hours ago

I took that as being part of the point.

[–] samus12345@sh.itjust.works 7 points 3 hours ago (1 children)

It is a waste of a comic format. Would have been better as just text.

[–] blinfabian@feddit.nl 4 points 3 hours ago

true. not only is it the same drawing, it adds nothing, not even once 😭

I realized in my 20s that Nye is over hyped. I had a few years where I was underwhelmed with how my plans worked out and thus decided to just do small things and try to enjoy them but not have high hopes. It works really well

[–] higgsboson@piefed.social 21 points 5 hours ago (3 children)

My admittedly boring method:

  • stay home

  • do stuff, maybe video games

  • go to sleep whenever I feel like it

  • wake up at the normal time

[–] SCmSTR@lemmy.blahaj.zone 4 points 2 hours ago* (last edited 2 hours ago)

I've found that, at least for me, I need to do social things, amazing things, and ceremony around it is also fine. Otherwise, I lose track of time and dark thoughts happen.

I encourage all to celebrate holidays or special events as much as you can, while you can. Every morning you wake up and can see and hear and smell and taste and feel and think. And if you're short somewhere in that list, you probably already understand what I'm talking about. Life is short and a lot of people want yours to be shitty. Don't let them win.

That being said, if you like playing videogames, don't let the people who don't appreciate that to make you feel like that isn't quality time.

[–] samus12345@sh.itjust.works 8 points 3 hours ago

I used to stay up when I was younger just to witness the year changing, but now I'm old and just go to bed. It will be there in the morning.

[–] Silar@lemmy.ml 1 points 4 hours ago

I’m with you

[–] Flamekebab@piefed.social 10 points 4 hours ago

Despite all the awfulness, it can be kinda nice to be amongst a lot of humans celebrating something.

I mean, I'm not doing it, but it's not all bad.

[–] orca@orcas.enjoying.yachts 24 points 6 hours ago (1 children)

Staying home has been the way for me for years. I fucking hate overcrowded bars.

[–] ladicius@lemmy.world 12 points 5 hours ago (2 children)

In my younger years I partied wild and even hosted parties with hundreds of guests (rented facilities).

Since my 40s I stay at home and go to bed at 10 pm latest.

[–] sexy_peach@feddit.org 3 points 2 hours ago

Especially on Nye you're not missing anything but drama and disappointment

[–] Lemmyoutofhere@lemmy.ca 4 points 3 hours ago

This is the way.

[–] Buffalox@lemmy.world 22 points 6 hours ago (1 children)

Staying at home myself, but I think the trick is to enjoy the moments between those frames.

[–] marcos@lemmy.world 8 points 6 hours ago (1 children)

If you don't enjoy the moments in those frames, don't go to some overcrowded place. There are no moments in between.

A lot of people enjoy it. I can't understand them, so I stick to small crowds.

[–] orca@orcas.enjoying.yachts 3 points 6 hours ago

The moments in between are usually comprised of dissociation and wishing I was anywhere else. The crowd has already sapped me of any energy I would’ve used to yell over the music while ~~talking to~~ yelling at friends.

[–] samus12345@sh.itjust.works 11 points 6 hours ago

Have always stayed home, away from the drunk drivers. Will continue to do so.

[–] BradleyUffner@lemmy.world 1 points 4 hours ago

I usually get myself so distracted by something that I don't even realize the new year has started until about 30 minutes past midnight. I didn't know why I bother stay up any more.

[–] Wrdlbrmpfd@feddit.org 2 points 5 hours ago

Best way to enjoy: https://youtu.be/UlIydTzQCF0 (in German Language but you'd get the idea)

[–] FishFace@piefed.social 0 points 3 hours ago

I've never been out on new year's, I've always been in my home or a friend's or family member's. Oh, tell a lie, on the millennium I was at church.
