Staying home has been the way for me for years. I fucking hate overcrowded bars.
Comic Strips
Comic Strips is a community for those who love comic stories.
Rules
-
π Be Nice!
- Treat others with respect and dignity. Friendly banter is okay, as long as it is mutual; keyword: friendly.
-
ποΈ Community Standards
- Comics should be a full story, from start to finish, in one post.
- Posts should be safe and enjoyable by the majority of community members, both here on lemmy.world and other instances.
- Any comic that would qualify as raunchy, lewd, or otherwise draw unwanted attention by nosy coworkers, spouses, or family members should be tagged as NSFW.
- Moderators have final say on what and what does not qualify as appropriate. Use common sense, and if need be, err on the side of caution.
-
𧬠Keep it Real
- Comics should be made and posted by real human beans, not by automated means like bots or AI. This is not the community for that sort of thing.
-
π½οΈ Credit Where Credit is Due
- Comics should include the original attribution to the artist(s) involved, and be unmodified. Bonus points if you include a link back to their website. When in doubt, use a reverse image search to try to find the original version. Repeat offenders will have their posts removed, be temporarily banned from posting, or if all else fails, be permanently banned from posting.
- Attributions include, but are not limited to, watermarks, links, or other text or imagery that artists add to their comics to use for identification purposes. If you find a comic without any such markings, it would be a good idea to see if you can find an original version. If one cannot be found, say so and ask the community for help!
-
π Post Formatting
- Post an image, gallery, or link to a specific comic hosted on another site; e.g., the author's website.
- Meta posts about the community should be tagged with [Meta] either at the beginning or the end of the post title.
- When linking to a comic hosted on another site, ensure the link is to the comic itself and not just to the website; e.g.,
β Correct: https://xkcd.com/386/
β Incorrect: https://xkcd.com/
-
π¬ Post Frequency/SPAM
- Each user (regardless of instance) may post up to five (5 π) comics a day. This can be any combination of personal comics you have written yourself, or other author's comics. Any comics exceeding five (5 π) will be removed.
-
π΄ββ οΈ Internationalization (i18n)
- Non-English posts are welcome. Please tag the post title with the original language, and include an English translation in the body of the post; e.g.,
SΓ, por favor [Spanish/EspaΓ±ol]
- Non-English posts are welcome. Please tag the post title with the original language, and include an English translation in the body of the post; e.g.,

πΏ Moderation
- We are human, just like most everybody else on Lemmy. If you feel a moderation decision was made in error, you are welcome to reach out to anybody on the moderation team for clarification. Keep in mind that moderation decisions may be final.
- When reporting posts and/or comments, quote which rule is being broken, and why you feel it broke the rules.

In my younger years I partied wild and even hosted parties with hundreds of guests (rented facilities).
Since my 40s I stay at home and go to bed at 10 pm latest.
This is the way.
Especially on Nye you're not missing anything but drama and disappointment
My wife and I threw a 40th birthday party for me and thatβs it. That was nearly 5 years ago now and weβre probably never hosting a party ever again lmao.
I'm not 40 yet and I was in bed by 8PM. π¬
Staying at home myself, but I think the trick is to enjoy the moments between those frames.
If you don't enjoy the moments in those frames, don't go to some overcrowded place. There are no moments in between.
A lot of people enjoy it. I can't understand them, so I stick to small crowds.
The moments in between are usually comprised of dissociation and wishing I was anywhere else. The crowd has already sapped me of any energy I wouldβve used to yell over the music while ~~talking to~~ yelling at friends.
My admittedly boring method:
-
stay home
-
do stuff, maybe video games
-
go to sleep whenever I feel like it
-
wake up at the normal time
I've found that, at least for me, I need to do social things, amazing things, and ceremony around it is also fine. Otherwise, I lose track of time and dark thoughts happen.
I encourage all to celebrate holidays or special events as much as you can, while you can. Every morning you wake up and can see and hear and smell and taste and feel and think. And if you're short somewhere in that list, you probably already understand what I'm talking about. Life is short and a lot of people want yours to be shitty. Don't let them win.
That being said, if you like playing videogames, don't let the people who don't appreciate that to make you feel like that isn't quality time.
I used to stay up when I was younger just to witness the year changing, but now I'm old and just go to bed. It will be there in the morning.
this is the worst comic ive ever seen. 3 frames are literally just the same drawing
Seriously, draw people getting into a place, draw them getting drinks, draw them waiting for Uber or some shit.
they can even have a :( face while looking at $$$ labels on the drinks. instead theyre just expressionless
It is a waste of a comic format. Would have been better as just text.
true. not only is it the same drawing, it adds nothing, not even once π
I took that as being part of the point.
Nah, going to a friends house with drinks I bought at the grocery store.
Now THAT'S the way to do it!!! :D
The last time I went to a bar on New Year Eve, I paid 20 bucks to get in, bought my first drink and started goofy dancing to a song that came on the radio. Then I got thrown out for being intoxicated.
Thatβs actually a pretty funny story
Despite all the awfulness, it can be kinda nice to be amongst a lot of humans celebrating something.
I mean, I'm not doing it, but it's not all bad.
Laughs in celebrating new yearβs at home
Have always stayed home, away from the drunk drivers. Will continue to do so.
I'm so glad that my partner and I just stay in and enjoy each other's company with some drinks. Going out on NYE is absolutely god awful.
There comes a certain age where if someone invites you to a New Year's Eve party you're just furious with them.
I think small party is fine. What I can't stand is counting down in a plaza.
I'm working this year, but the wife lucked out hard. She got invited to a house party, then today her friend called and said everyone except the two people hosting are sick, so it'd just be the three of em.
Iβm drinking a mango margarita and eating spaghetti. This was not a wise combination choice, yet here I am.
Yeah nah, imma be asleep π΄
I walked to the bar. Accepted a free pour of sparkling wine. Counted down to midnight. Sang Auld Lang Syne. Drank my free wine. Hugged some strangers. Threw $5 in the tip jar. Walked home watching fireworks.
It's a pretty fun holiday if you do it like me.
Nice city!
I realized in my 20s that Nye is over hyped. I had a few years where I was underwhelmed with how my plans worked out and thus decided to just do small things and try to enjoy them but not have high hopes. It works really well
Sucks to think that. Seriously, enjoy life, have fun. Visit with friends, family, etc. Find your people and do something.
Maybe this sounded too pessimistic. I always had plans for the best parties that ended short because I was too drunk or it just didn't turn out to be the best party.
Now I just make small plans and if big things happen that's great.
Always surprising to me that people still do this. It's always a scam and everyone goes home just slightly pissed off.
Hang out with a dozen people from the neighborhood at someoneβs house. Short travel, cheap drinks, nice food, neighbors will help me home, if Iβm too wasted.
I made a tasty blueberry lavender cake, leek gratin with homemade bread and watched the stranger things finale. Ideally Iβd go to sleep now but goddamn fireworks are scaring my dog.
I stayed home, not by choice. Got the unwelcome xmas gift of covid.
