Me when I'm lacking Vitamin U

Yeah that's gonna be my partner
I collapse on the street and I am rushed to the hospital
okay so not in the United States then?
from what I've read, in contrast to the useless mountain of vitamins influences push, the reasonable supplements which normal people should take daily include vitamin D, omega 3, magnesium, a generic multi vitamin, creatine, protein.... which is still ends up as like a huge fistful of pills. at least it only costs a few cents per day, being mostly the protein powder, but I still feel geriatric opening 5 different pill bottles every morning. I'd feel even more geriatric having a pill calendar I fill up each week, and most are probably not large enough to fit the 6 whole fish oil capsules you're supposed to take every day.
Get some fiber in that diet, too. I'm on the same regimen, omega 3, magnesium, multivitamin, vitamin C. Started soaking chia seeds in water and a squirt of lemon juice. 3 tbsp of chia seeds is about enough of your daily recommended fiber for the day. 95% of amerikkkans don't eat enough fiber every day. It's been a game changer for me
both of my parents avoid using salt as much as possible and don't even salt meat and stuff because "salt is bad for you"
how the media talks about diets and food has done a number on so many people
I'm so sorry
rebrand it as 'electrolytes'
It's what plants crave
salt juice
all of their food tastes bad and I can say that bc i'm a chef (I'm sorry)
I love salt. They could never make me hate salt. I could die at the hands of salt and my last words would be "I love you salt"
My partner has POTS and they relate to this so hard
yea it does they also tend to overcook things. fortunately i dont eat meat anyway so i just don't eat it
Salts, fats, and sugars are the pathway flavor travels.
They put it in the salt here, so it's basically impossible to not get it
It has to say iodized salt though, if it says sea salt you're not getting it
Besides salt, some countries have mandatory fortification of bread with iodine as well.
Miso and other fermented soy pastes are also pretty good sources for vegans.
For the Statesians, here's the USDA lookup for iodine sources.
it's a good practice to interrogate what you're eating for any vitamins you might be lacking. For example, a deficiency in magnesium can cause headaches and other issues. Iodine is indeed one that I realized I'm not getting enough of because of the lack of it in most foods, and the fact that I have been using kosher salt instead of iodine infused salt.
EAT YOUR IODIZED SALT
i know it's rude of me to publicly call out my partner but it's rude of them to not eat their salt
(I'm not an encyclopedia and I'm drunk) century
yeah thats the 19th century alright
Shout out to iodized salt, it’s good stuff
Is there morton lite/potassium chloride salt that's still iodized? seems like that'd be ideal for people worried about too much salt.
Edit: My internet's all funky and I responded to the wrong person. But fuck it. I just post 'em all. Let Mod sort 'em out.
Yeah, there's a bunch of "salt substitute" stuff that's either 100% or 50% potassium chloride with iodine or iodized salt mixed with it. Nu-Salt, Half Salt, Morton Lite, "salt free" iodized salt, etc.
it really is, I wish it didn't affect the taste of food though because it makes me not want to use it
wait... there are people who don't like the taste?
I mean it's definitely a strong taste and I can see people who are purists not wanting the influence but personally I don't think it's a BAD taste, just definitely noticeable and not necessarily desirable
huh, I've literally been using iodized salt my whole life so while I believe you I genuinely don't know what difference you're referring to
Tastes like metal
Same here, to me that's just what salt tastes like.
if you dissolve iodized and non-iodized salt in two glasses of water you can smell the difference. the iodized one is a bit bleachy/metallic
Taking medication for hypothyroid and iodized salts since forever but still tried and depressed
it's not a silver bullet but at least you're tired and depressed with a functioning thyroid
I do but i also live in late stage capitalism
UK salt isn’t iodised. As a vegan supplements are pretty much my only option.
Im sure you could buy iodized salt somewhere but it doesn't matter since it's functionally a supplement
They have it at Sainsbury’s, I don’t go there though and don’t see the point just for one item, so I’ll probably just keep using the supplements.
Yeah if you're getting supplements you're good the only point would be if you got sick of them and wanted to add it straight to your food. But imo it doesn't taste good anyway lol
can i get a supplement that isn't salt?
me af when im carthage
they didn't salt Carthage after the third Punic war, they actually rebuilt it and it became an important province
BUT THEY SHOULD HAVE
-some guy who Canada is eager to honor in parliament
can i mix this with apple cider vinegar
you can do the same thing with it that you would with any other salt except it'll be a little copper tasting and it'll make your thyroid go "thank you more pls" (don't give it too much, gremlin rules)
i deny my thyroid iodine cuz it be wildin
)
