Moderator Guidelines

Moderator Guidelines

  • Don’t be mean to users. Be gentle or neutral.
  • Most moderator actions which have a modlog message should include your username.
  • When in doubt about whether or not a user is problematic, send them a DM.
  • Don’t waste time debating/arguing with problematic users.
  • Assume the best, but don’t tolerate sealioning/just asking questions/concern trolling.
  • Ask another mod to take over cases you struggle with, if you get tired, or when things get personal.
  • Ask the other mods for advice when things get complicated.
  • Share everything you do in the mod matrix, both so several mods aren't unknowingly handling the same issues, but also so you can receive feedback on what you intend to do.
  • Don't rush mod actions. If a case doesn't need to be handled right away, consider taking a short break before getting to it. This is to say, cool down and make room for feedback.
  • Don’t perform too much moderation in the comments, except if you want a verdict to be public or to ask people to dial a convo down/stop. Single comment warnings are okay.
  • Send users concise DMs about verdicts about them, such as bans etc, except in cases where it is clear we don’t want them at all, such as obvious transphobes. No need to notify someone they haven’t been banned of course.
  • Explain to a user why their behavior is problematic and how it is distressing others rather than engage with whatever they are saying. Ask them to avoid this in the future and send them packing if they do not comply.
  • First warn users, then temp ban them, then finally perma ban them when they break the rules or act inappropriately. Skip steps if necessary.
  • Use neutral statements like “this statement can be considered transphobic” rather than “you are being transphobic”.
  • No large decisions or actions without community input (polls or meta posts f.ex.).
  • Large internal decisions (such as ousting a mod) might require a vote, needing more than 50% of the votes to pass. Also consider asking the community for feedback.
  • Remember you are a voluntary moderator. You don’t get paid. Take a break when you need one. Perhaps ask another moderator to step in if necessary.

Three types of guys: The Orcs, the Elves and the Dwarves. They are not mutually exclusive.

Dwarf by trade, Orc by the grace of God, Elf by the way you hear other hillbillies talk

I am the One

[–] morto@piefed.social 49 points 4 weeks ago (7 children)

None of them checks out. My fantasy is being able to provide a small community in a post-collapse society with crafting, engineering, and knowledge

[–] unrealMinotaur@sh.itjust.works 35 points 4 weeks ago (1 children)

So... Leading a small community in a last stand against all odds? (Incl digging a hole [well / latrine.])

[–] vaultdweller013@sh.itjust.works 3 points 3 weeks ago

Doesn't have to be a well or latrine, could be earthen works, running water pipes, or the corpse hole.

[–] cdipierr@lemmy.world 18 points 4 weeks ago

Engineering infrastructure? Like foundations and wells? Sounds like you're number three my brother.

And if the wolves come knocking at your community's door, maybe number one.

[–] grranibal@lemmy.zip 8 points 4 weeks ago

He’ll yeah! Same

[–] Semi_Hemi_Demigod@lemmy.world 6 points 3 weeks ago

That just sounds like digging a hole with extra steps

Find a stick for life

[–] Harvey656@lemmy.world 31 points 4 weeks ago (1 children)

Best part is you can have all three: Dig a hole to moleman territory in winter, get into a desperate final stand against the moleman warriors crawl out and bleed to death in the snow. Wet dream material.

[–] TotallynotJessica@lemmy.blahaj.zone 5 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

but the moleman warriors can use your own tunnels against you 🤔

[–] Harvey656@lemmy.world 11 points 3 weeks ago

What do you think the last stand is for? Its a self fulfilling prophecy.

[–] nova_ad_vitum@lemmy.ca 27 points 4 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago) (2 children)

The middle drawing appears to be the end scene of Bladerunner 2049 where the protagonist lies on the concrete steps, not a field.

Meme is 0/10 literally unplayable

EDIT - Added spoiler tag. Also Snape killed Dumbledore

[–] verdare@piefed.blahaj.zone 5 points 4 weeks ago (1 children)

I was going to say the same thing! Probably should spoiler tag that, though.

Where is "watching trains"?

Thats autism, so dwarves. Or elves. In this case, dwarves.

[–] Lucidlethargy@sh.itjust.works 2 points 4 weeks ago

Lol wtf? Are you a foamer?

[–] Jayjader@jlai.lu 20 points 4 weeks ago

One of my favorite parts about being fluid is feeling like "male fantasy" and "female fantasy" memes are made for me. This is definitely no exception!

[–] FosterMolasses@leminal.space 18 points 4 weeks ago (2 children)

I long to understand the science behind why the second one appeals to me so much lmao

[–] _stranger_@lemmy.world 16 points 4 weeks ago* (last edited 4 weeks ago) (1 children)

Everyone dies. Not everyone gets to die looking cool as fuck.

Nah that's the same fantasy: dig hole, dig to deeply and to greedily, defend against what you awakened, heroic last stand, noble sacrifice, bleed out on snow knowing you saved everyone else.

[–] QuantumSparkles@sh.itjust.works 14 points 4 weeks ago (3 children)

What is the original from? I like the art style

For anyone who is like yeah diggy hole.

Highly recommend the game Out of Ore. Not only do you diggy big holes. You do it with heavy equipment.

[–] FatVegan@leminal.space 2 points 4 weeks ago (1 children)

Is it a real game or is it some streamer slop?

"Digging a hole" is more of a metaphor. Could also be applied to putting a lot of effort and time into any craft that looks and sounds meaningless on the surface. I work on an open-source game engine for at least a decade (to save myself, usually I only work a few hours on it at once), but I'm also looking into building my own guitar pedals, and maybe once I can start making headless guitars out of carbon fiber and with neodymium pickups, the ultimate sacrilige against guitar traditionalist snobs.

[–] SkyezOpen@lemmy.world 8 points 3 weeks ago (2 children)

Maybe, but as a young lad I had a weird drive to dig holes in dirt. I always bugged my parents but they never let me. Then one year I dug a bunch of post holes working for my dad. Now I think dirt is fine where it currently is.

[–] devedeset@lemmy.zip 3 points 3 weeks ago

My parents let me have a dirt pit when I was a kid, it was a fucking blast. It sorta went away when it evolved into bike jumps

[–] tetris11@feddit.uk 3 points 3 weeks ago

oh yep that'll do it.

I wanted to chainsaw a tree as a kid. Now that ive climbed a tree as an adult and chopped its limbs off whilst hoping the chain doesn't snap - I'm done.

Back to planting, and nurturing thanks

I don't really like it. It sounds tinny not woody. Gooooorn.

[–] Visstix@lemmy.world 3 points 4 weeks ago

Diggy is tinny, home is woody

[–] luciferofastora@feddit.org 8 points 4 weeks ago

I love the opening lines of the first verse:

Brothers of the mine, rejoice!
Sing, sing, sing with me
Raise your pick and raise your voice!
Swing, swing, swing with me

[–] bownage@beehaw.org 10 points 4 weeks ago (2 children)

Hole digging is just really fun

[–] burntbacon@discuss.tchncs.de 5 points 4 weeks ago

Fuck me. I bought that recent game about digging a hole and I am still ashamed of how much fun I had with the simple concept of digging deep.

Even more fun when you've got MACHINES

[–] ArmoredThirteen@lemmy.zip 9 points 4 weeks ago (1 children)

Could be all three in that order: successful last stand that you give your life for ending up with you bleeding out in a snowy field while trying to dig a grave for you and the loved one you lost in the battle

[–] burntbacon@discuss.tchncs.de 5 points 4 weeks ago

Maaaaaaaan, the last thing I'd want to do while bleeding out in a snowy field is digging a grave.

[–] vaultdweller013@sh.itjust.works 9 points 3 weeks ago

Pretty sure the top image is the last stand of the Thunder warriors from 30k. The emperor's treason shall not be forgotten, FOR THE WAR MASTER!

[–] SanctimoniousApe@lemmings.world 8 points 4 weeks ago

Damn, if that's Kara then I'm all in on the new Supergirl film next year!

[–] HeyThisIsntTheYMCA@lemmy.world 6 points 3 weeks ago (2 children)

I'm gonna be honest, the digging a hole Isekai was pretty good

[–] WorldsDumbestMan@lemmy.today 4 points 4 weeks ago

I'm not like that anymore, I do as a matter of fact, just want to dig holes in peace.
