The Supreme Kangaroo Court of the United States strikes again. It’s kind of amazing that out of 9 justices we have 2 avowed rapists, not to mention several christian nationalists.

[–] buddascrayon@lemmy.world 7 points 4 hours ago (1 children)

I 100% blame the Democratic party for this. They've been assisting the Republicans in their efforts to create this court for the last 40 years. Thomas should never have been confirmed to the court and Ruth Bader Ginsberg hung on at a time when she should have left while the "liberal" dems controlled both the presidency and the Senate and could easily have replaced her with a(n at least mostly) liberal justice.

[–] frunch@lemmy.world 3 points 4 hours ago

I would still place some blame on Republicans for insisting on nominating sexual offenders, corrupt pieces of shit, etc. Yes the Dems should have done more to stop them, but i think the GOP should bear some responsibility for being sociopaths

[–] WizardofFrobozz@lemmy.ca 5 points 7 hours ago

Every day MAGA trash feels safe leaving their homes is a day the rest of you show your cowardice, America

[–] bamboo@lemmy.blahaj.zone 21 points 11 hours ago (1 children)

We should start calling it Robertsmander rather than Gerrymander from now on. If having no shame while he's living has no effect, then the best he deserves is his name being tarnished and synonymous with corruption for hundreds of years.

[–] SCmSTR@lemmy.blahaj.zone 1 points 7 hours ago (1 children)

They are Robertsmadering

It's heavily Robertsmandered

They want to Robertsmander everything

Saying this in my head makes my head and my jaw hurt for some reason. I think I'll just stick with gerrymander.

[–] ryper@lemmy.ca 131 points 16 hours ago (8 children)

In a brief order, the conservative majority argued, among other things, that the District Court had intervened to block the maps too close to next year’s midterm election.

Eleven months away is too close to the next election for these clowns.

[–] A_norny_mousse@feddit.org 18 points 11 hours ago (1 children)

Fuck that shit. They use this argument whenever it suits them. And what suits this fascist admin, suits the SCOTUS.

Didn't Trump himself appoint SCOTUS judges "too close" to the election? Clowns.

[–] Thebular@lemmy.world 7 points 7 hours ago

Barrett, for starters. Nominated 38 days prior to the 2020 election, and confirmed just 8 days prior.

[–] akilou@sh.itjust.works 21 points 12 hours ago

But wouldn't the opposite be true? Changing the maps too close to the election is a problem. "Keeping them the same too close to the election" makes no sense.

[–] silence7@slrpnk.net 84 points 16 hours ago

The decision has nothing to do with their stated reasons; they are in favor of racism, but don't want to say so

[–] kryptonianCodeMonkey@lemmy.world 13 points 12 hours ago

No no, dont even give it that much dignity. The complainants are not asking to "block the map" too close (11 months) to elections. They are asking that the map not be illicit, unethically changed 5 years early, based off the explicit public request of the President who is not meant to have power over state election matters, with the explicitly stated intent of gerrymandering out more seats for Republicans that they "deserve" than they otherwise would have won, only 15ish months to the elections (which is apparently plenty of time). Their "reasoning" doesn't make sense because it's not reasoning. It's blatant full chested support of voter suppression/disenfranchisement to bolster their party and their autocratic President. They're so full of shit you could smell them talking from the next room over. Fuck those lying, cheating, corrupt, un-American, fascist cunts.

[–] HocEnimVeni@lemmy.world 33 points 14 hours ago (1 children)

Dont forget 9 months is too close to an election to approve a supreme court justice nomination, unless the president is Republican and then less than a month is plenty of time

[–] Bronzebeard@lemmy.zip 4 points 11 hours ago

Election was already underway. There were already absentee balls cast ousting him from office when they approved his nomination

[–] CaptainBlinky@lemmy.myserv.one 49 points 16 hours ago (1 children)

It's obvious bullshit. If anything that logic would uphold the stay.

[–] Fredselfish@lemmy.world 39 points 16 hours ago (1 children)

Same bullshit that Mitch McConnell claimed why Obama couldn't appoint a Supreme Court justice fuck this illegmeaite Supreme Court.

[–] TacoSocks@infosec.pub 3 points 4 hours ago

And then did a speed run to install a Supreme Court Justice like 45 days before an election under Trump.

[–] credo@lemmy.world 24 points 15 hours ago (1 children)

Texas passed their new maps on August 29th. On November 18 the district court ordered them to revert to their previous maps.

Apparently the SC’s Republican cult members think this will be too difficult for Texas?

[–] UnderpantsWeevil@lemmy.world 7 points 14 hours ago

They've already gutted the VRA. This is reaffirming the decision.

[–] themeatbridge@lemmy.world 21 points 16 hours ago (1 children)
[–] A_norny_mousse@feddit.org 3 points 11 hours ago

Fellow being, this particular mask has been off ever since Donny the Destroyer appointed his cronies to be SCOTUS judges - "too close" to the election, btw.

[–] heydo@lemmy.world 18 points 12 hours ago (1 children)

Feels like we need to have a Get the Fuck Out protest.

[–] DrDickHandler@lemmy.world 3 points 11 hours ago

That's very cute of you, however, fascism is there to stay.

[–] Semi_Hemi_Demigod@lemmy.world 46 points 14 hours ago (3 children)

At what point can I stop pretending we have a functioning government?

Since the founding of the country.

[–] DrDickHandler@lemmy.world 4 points 11 hours ago

It functions pretty well at enriching a select few corporations and wealthy elites.

[–] devolution@lemmy.world 79 points 16 hours ago (5 children)

Of course they did. Now let's see their rationale for overturning Californias.

[–] Tolookah@discuss.tchncs.de 45 points 16 hours ago

It's too close to the election to not do it

[–] Vorticity@lemmy.world 3 points 9 hours ago

Here's the fun part. They'll use the shadow docket and won't give any rationale.

[–] A_norny_mousse@feddit.org 5 points 11 hours ago

If that happens, nations around the globe should really wake up to the threat coming from the USA.

...oh, who am I kidding...

[–] DokPsy@lemmy.world 19 points 16 hours ago

Does it even fucking matter at this point? There will be zero repercussions for the blatant disregard for the law to serve the authoritarian regime so they can say whatever they want

[–] BertramDitore@lemmy.zip 9 points 16 hours ago

Yeah, for real. Let’s hope the Majestic Imperious High Court deigns to grace us with any explanation. They love their emergency docket…

[–] spaghettiwestern@sh.itjust.works 42 points 15 hours ago (1 children)

Exactly as expected. Next they'll find that California's redistricting is unconstitutional.

[–] blitzen@lemmy.ca 19 points 15 hours ago (4 children)

I obviously disagree with this ruling, but if they were to rule the opposite on California, the absolute sheer corruptness would be undeniable. And worthily of drastic and dramatic action on our (the citizens) part.

[–] baronvonj@lemmy.world 39 points 15 hours ago (1 children)

The corruption is already undeniable.

[–] UnderpantsWeevil@lemmy.world 7 points 14 hours ago

Okay but then it'll be double plus undeniable. People will definitely do something in response. You'll see.

[–] spaghettiwestern@sh.itjust.works 5 points 10 hours ago

Their sheer corruptness is already undeniable. The six right wing hacks regularly make decisions that are blatantly and obviously unconstitutional and write nonsense opinions to justify them. They openly accept huge bribes from those impacted by their decisions and then rule in their favor. If the GOP gave a damn about the rule of law and the Constitution they would have been impeached long ago.

[–] bear@lemmy.blahaj.zone 10 points 15 hours ago (1 children)

Citizens wouldn't even vote in their own interest, and now it's too late. I'm convinced tens of millions of Americans will die quietly before even one stands up.

Everything is shitty and terrible and we’re not even a year in. :(

[–] Skiluros@sh.itjust.works 9 points 11 hours ago* (last edited 10 hours ago) (1 children)

Fascinating stuff! It's like russia with extra steps and a gigantic amount of comical ostentatious posturing about freedoms and liberty.

Americans do love their theatrics!

[–] Aqarius@lemmy.world 2 points 10 hours ago

Political maneuver literally named after a US politician

"Wow, this is just like Foreignistan!"

[–] molestme247@lemmy.world 11 points 13 hours ago

Is it supper time yet?

[–] Rhoeri@lemmy.world 6 points 11 hours ago

When mom says no, just ask dad.

[–] TemplaerDude@sh.itjust.works 4 points 11 hours ago

It’s so long past the point that Americans should have begun shooting these traitors, they’re just gonna fucking let the fascism happen and tweet about it at this point.

Agreed! It's MUCH too Close to an Election to Make Changes!

-The Supreme Court Justice who was appointed AFTER people ALREADY Voted!

[–] meeeeetch@lemmy.world 6 points 14 hours ago (1 children)

The way that special election in Tennessee went, instead of picking up five seats, they're liable to only be left with five seats (after all, you can't grab more districts without weakening your hold on others).

Of course. It was a given that that was what they were going to do, because they're entirely corrupt and compromised, entirely without integrity, principles, honor or legitimacy and driven solely by a determination to serve the interests of Trump and the oligarchs.
