Somehow managed to not having listened to this song at all when it came out... until it popped up in some TV series I was watching a couple of years ago.

Fun fact! She's Karen Black's youngest sister!

[–] Zorque@lemmy.world 1 points 16 minutes ago

No relation to Claudia Black, though.

Before then the Freaky Friday moves were just called “Freaky fifth day of the Week” and the Friday the 13th movie series was “The 13th”

Rebecca Black was a boon to those series.

Does that imply the standard work week used to be 4 on 2 off and she used some kind of genie wish to add a day of work? Wtf Rebecca.

[–] EntirelyUnlovable@lemmy.world 2 points 5 minutes ago

No no it was always 5 on 2 off, we just didn't know what the fifth day was called until she told us

Mad Friday—the official kickoff for the winter holiday frenzy!

i wonder how jokes like this will impact the future’s understanding of us

We have first hand evidence that the holiday named Black Friday was named in honor of Digital era singer Rebecca Black, who is said to have invented Friday in 2011. However, due to textual evidence of the holiday prior to 2011, this claim is now disputed by many linguists.

I don't get it? I got the lyrics right - I even looked them up to be certain.

[–] Onomatopoeia@lemmy.cafe 3 points 1 hour ago (1 children)

Either you missed the joke, or you upped the ante by connecting to a much older song.

[–] toynbee@lemmy.world 3 points 1 hour ago

I think it was both.
