We used to have these in all rural areas and cities too when I was a kid. Lived in a small rural place on an island and the store truck came every Saturday, still had to walk quite a bit to its stop.

The last one I remember was around in 2000ish, used to walk my then old great uncle there to do his weekly shop.

It was car brain and everyone getting their own vehicles that killed these, along with most of the public transport that used to be very good.

This rules actually

That image is AI generated, right?

[–] WokePalpatine@hexbear.net 12 points 4 days ago

Yeah. There's a solid metal bar attached to the door and the doors don't make sense and there's a boat floating off the back window for some reason and the ramp doesn't make sense and one of the windows has a bizarre opening none of the other ones have, etc. etc.

weird pink circle on the guy's face, the ø and e being smushed together, English language text in the back (FRESH MIND?), you can still see the seats (and some sort of ghastly apparition) in the back of the bus

oh and the little paddleboat just randomly floating in the air, can't forget that

It's a œ instead of an æ, which would also be wrong. Interestingly the œ would be pretty close sound wise.

[–] Abracadaniel@hexbear.net 5 points 4 days ago

I think yes

[–] Damarcusart@hexbear.net 3 points 3 days ago

Mostly, but the ghoulish inhuman monsters floating in the backs of buses and staring into your soul is pretty standard for Denmark I believe.

i doubt it's carbrained, more like reducing walking time from 10 minutes to 2 minutes (better than sending people to treat delivery apps in any case when they have mild mobility issues, although i think they get assigned social worker, but still, agency and stuff)

Nah, these things go where there is no grocery store anymore at all. All the small village grocers have died out because everybody just uses their cars to go the next biggest town (of 10.000 people or so) where there's 4 stores with bighuge parking lots because the prices are cheaper. Basically every village in western europe has given up every bit of local infrastructure in favour of just using their car to go the next town. This both fucks people unable to drive, so often old women who depended on their husbands to do it for them because patriarchy, and children for obvious reasons. It's also a huge factor as to why so many rural settlements cry about the lack of investments in their communities despite those typicall receiving a rather disproportionate amount of taxes because it's hugely uneconomical to keep utilites running to a village of 200 single family homes where 0 economic activity happens

this trend reached nordic villages as well? rip :(

why did they spell it kœbmand. It's halfway to kæbmand which is also wrong.

Also that's not how a danish bus has looked in 75 years.

Why would they say "Fresh M-nd" Fresh is not a Danish word and the only thing it could say is like. Fresh Mænd, which would be... like "Fresh Men". Or it could be Fresh Mund, as in Fresh Mouth? Also those fruit and veg would be fucked the moment that old a vehicle hit any kind of bump.

Also I could find nothing about this by googling it. What I could find is the old existing program of free transport being arranged for elderly people who live far afield to grocery stores, via the regional bus service (But that is done in a taxi cab) and the program for mobility impaired people of a bus route being arranged that picks up people and take them to the mall, then back and helps them carry in their groceries,

Edit: Literally the only people writing about this are hucksters using AI images, this is totally not a real thing. Some of these images look like something out of Matador. This is ridiculous.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=41rpXrTujn0 ass images man.

crush

why did they spell it kœbmand.

no you don't get it it's a new disruptive letter that tech bros invented, it's both a æ and a ø, making it the most danish letter of them all!

Some of these images look like something out of Matador. This is ridiculous.

because the prompters put "elderly" and "old buses" in the same prompt and the chatgpt thought it needed to create a scene from the pre war era. i for one would like the shop staff to wear newspaper hats like in the danish girl movie

[–] Damarcusart@hexbear.net 3 points 3 days ago

I love how you can tell when they used a term like "old" or "old fashioned" in their prompt because the AI puts a piss yellow filter over some of the image, but not all of it.

I found a YouTube link in your comment. Here are links to the same video on alternative frontends that protect your privacy:

we've had these for ages. the one in the village i grew up in, stopped, because grocery stores started doing delivery and they couldn't compete anymore

[–] RedSturgeon@hexbear.net 11 points 4 days ago (2 children)

Why are there a bunch of facebook posts of AI generated templates talking about this idea, in the present tense, even though it's just a proposal and not something that actually is implemented, as far as I know.

Not that here's anything wrong with mobile grocery stores. Lots of grocery stores offer home delivery that got implemented during the lockdown tho' not sure about Denmark, guessing they have that too.

[–] Keld@hexbear.net 5 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago)

I can find nothing from any Danish sources about this. The closest I got was someone saying this was real by linking to the concept of "Beredskabsbutikker", which are very crucially not busses, not mobile, not in any way related to elder care, and don't yet exist.

[–] Damarcusart@hexbear.net 3 points 3 days ago

To get old people on facebook to follow their page so they can spam them with advertisements. It's the same reason they do the prawn jesus shit as well.

[–] Moidialectica@hexbear.net 8 points 4 days ago

This exists already, largely for villages. Well not Denmark, but yeah.

[–] BearerOfPickles@hexbear.net 7 points 4 days ago

Japan does this in rural areas too

[–] varmint@hexbear.net 7 points 4 days ago

What if grocery stores, but on light rail? 🤔

[–] bobs_guns@lemmygrad.ml 5 points 4 days ago

I think this makes a lot of sense actually. Although having higher population density is generally superior, people are gonna live in rural areas and they need to eat too.

[–] Chapo_is_Red@hexbear.net 4 points 4 days ago

There's no way this makes sense in an urban area
