There's not a lot of science done on trans people and so sometimes you just kinda have to trust your elder trans lol

Providing credit for an AI generated image is wild

[–] anosym@sh.itjust.works 17 points 19 hours ago (1 children)

I think that's the original image. I don't know who made it, it's been in my gallery for years. I don't understand why people feed perfectly fine meme templates into AI to create a shittier version. I have seen this happen with other memes as well. Maybe so that they can pretend that it's OC?

[–] PotatoesFall@discuss.tchncs.de 1 points 4 hours ago

I think in this case OP wanted to make the people look like scientists. and then labelled them anyway lol

[–] BroBot9000@lemmy.world 9 points 23 hours ago

Crediting Ai slop 🤮

Science can be proven wrong... by more science. It's not that hard of a concept.

[–] SoleInvictus@lemmy.blahaj.zone 15 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Here on Lemmy, I recently learned of a far-reaching conspiracy that by its nature involves bribing research scientists and their support staff across the globe to falsify their data and support the falsified data of others.

I was quite surprised, having worked as one for over a decade and never receiving a cent of my universal bribe income (UBI). I've filed grievances with requests for back pay from both ANSO and the ISC, but they're denying any knowledge of it.

You need to reply to that guy messaging everyone on Lemmy that's seeing if anyone wants to join the illuminati

[–] Tryenjer@lemmy.world 3 points 21 hours ago* (last edited 21 hours ago)

That's because you need to join the Templars first, of course. LoL

Anytime someone says science might be wrong I agree. It can be, but it is based on what we know so far and the scientific method lets us refine our understanding over time. Until more information is available, we work with what we know instead of throwing it out because it might not be perfect.

[–] thatradomguy@lemmy.world 4 points 1 day ago

Ergo, science 👐

[–] Mardukas@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Sure but if it is easily debunked in a youtube video by a kon scientist I wonder if we should be regarding that particular topic as science.

If you are in a position to criticize other people's science, youtube is probably not the platform of choice.

[–] thatradomguy@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago

I can't speak for the millions of videos on YouTube and I clearly haven't watched as many science videos as the next guy, but I won't rule it out entirely if the person backs it up with actual science. Psuedo science like RFK wasn't something they cited on YouTube. Science must prove itself.

[–] BarneyPiccolo@lemmy.today 15 points 1 day ago

RFK, Jr = PeeWee Mengele

[–] Tigeroovy@lemmy.ca 3 points 21 hours ago

Well this is a shit post alright, I’ll give it that.

[–] dumbass@piefed.social 2 points 19 hours ago

Pffft, I read the title of a post on Lemmy, I know more than him.

[–] tomiant@piefed.social 12 points 1 day ago (2 children)

It's about agency. They want to feel like they, too, have a claim to Truth, because they can always just reject what you say, so they have "equal say" in their minds. They don't understand science, they have no education, and they feel like "the man" is telling them what to think, so they just reject the concept of science and come to their own conclusions and will not be swayed.

[–] TheRealKuni@piefed.social 8 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Also in some cases it gives them a built-in sense of community and belonging, something they haven’t experienced. The documentary Behind the Curve does a good job of pitying flat earthers rather than just ridiculing them. (Though they are absolutely subject to ridicule.)

[–] tomiant@piefed.social 8 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Idiots praising each other is a disastrous thing.

[–] black_flag@lemmy.dbzer0.com 5 points 1 day ago

I think it's also about cult mindsets. If a scientist says the earth is billions of years old that also means there's no heaven and the alienated existence under capitalism is all you get. There's a phrase I heard from religious-types: "would you rather this be the closest you get to heaven or hell?" They really see earth as hell and are only here to recruit and die.

[–] Dorkyd68@lemmy.world 1 points 18 hours ago

"According to my research " proceeds to copy and paste from Facebook

[–] Track_Shovel@slrpnk.net 6 points 1 day ago

There's a rule: the burden of proof lies on the person who is going against established knowledge

Reminds me of my neighbors complaining some websites had "liberal views" on vaccines.

I didn't even bother to ask what that meant because the phrase itself was so stupid. I just knew the explanation was going to be even stupider.

[–] Rachelhazideas@lemmy.world 1 points 19 hours ago

This is only true until you realize that a lot of modern science is built upon foundations of systemic discrimination that excluded women and minorities. Only new researching can prove old research wrong, and the lack of funding for catching up in inclusivity in science has led to the status quo of outdated beliefs permeating STEM but dressed in a lab coat of credibility.

Research on women's health and medicine lags behind men's by decades due to the historical exclusion of women in studies and the refusal to treat them as credible witnesses to their own bodies' symptoms. Magnitudes of more money has been poured into ED than endometriosis, an agonizing condition that gets dismissed as 'just a period' by doctors.

They would never allow him to speak. They will simply silence him with numbers and throw him off the edge of the earth before letting the truth out.
