I love how the second paragraph gives the real reason, in between all the garbage

[–] gasgiant@lemmy.ml 34 points 6 months ago (1 children)

Then they follow it up with a bold section about how they're still a traditional American company committed to family and community.

Literally after just saying we're doing this to keep private equity and shareholders happy.

Unless it's just my family and community that thinks private equity can go fuck itself?

[–] primrosepathspeedrun@anarchist.nexus 11 points 6 months ago* (last edited 6 months ago)

No, no–their private equity family and country club community.

[–] JoeByeThen@hexbear.net 55 points 6 months ago (2 children)

porky-happy

Protecting the stability of shareholders was prioritized & this store — along with its local workforce — was deemed expendable in service of that obligation.

I would have written this note in a novel and my critique group and they would have criticized me by telling me to "show, don't tell" about irony. I'd have been recommended an anti-capitalist ex-employee and to have a conversation with the store owner + give them a plausible motivation. It would have been a whole thing.

[–] combat_brandonism@hexbear.net 10 points 6 months ago (1 children)

seems sus with that paragraph

[–] JoeByeThen@hexbear.net 9 points 6 months ago (1 children)

I've seen shit like that from small businesses, but it does seem a bit too on the nose. Difficult to tell with the direction things are heading tho.

[–] combat_brandonism@hexbear.net 11 points 6 months ago (1 children)

man they're cooked if private equity thinks they're sympathetic.

but that paragraph is so out of place and way too on the nose, I think this is some adbusters shit someone slapped on the closed claires in their mall

[–] aanes_appreciator@hexbear.net 2 points 6 months ago

i can't find evidence of this statement existing beyond this exact image. Take that how you wishm

ridicule by radical left agitators

powercry-2 farquaad-point

[–] anotherspinelessdem@lemmy.ml 14 points 6 months ago

I heard the radical left even took the latest jobs report that was supposed to show how great Trump's doing at running a country and also they shit his pants

A jewelry store for young girls/early teenagers. So like 11 to 16 years old. They mostly have cheap plastic necklaces and earrings, with inexpensive perfume. Some locations have clothes, too.

They're usually located in malls, which are a dying business model in the US thanks to Amazon and large, one stop shop stores like Walmart and Target.

[–] primrosepathspeedrun@anarchist.nexus 6 points 6 months ago* (last edited 6 months ago)

Oh. Mall thing. Got it.

If I posted this to UK spaces without comment people would stop going to Claire's and find somewhere else to go because they don't want to support insane far right companies. Whoever wrote this is seriously out of touch and does not realise that the way their company behaves in one territory can and will affect them in other territories as well. Trying to pander to the right with a "we're closing because of leftists please support us" might work for idiotic americans but it makes the whole company look insane anywhere else in the world.

[–] Assian_Candor@hexbear.net 12 points 6 months ago

America sucks so much

hard to believe you with how popular reform is

"we're closing because of leftists please support us" might work for idiotic americans but it makes the whole company look insane anywhere else in the world.

the world is globalized nowadays ,it does work for many including places you would call 3rd world countries (Argentina ,Chile and Brazil)

it wouldn't work in a place like South Africa but otherwise I don't agree

[–] Awoo@hexbear.net 4 points 6 months ago* (last edited 6 months ago)

Reform are not popular because kissing the ass of shareholders and licking the boot of rich fuckheads is popular. If you listen to any of the people taken in by them they'll correctly say it's the rich that are fucking us but they come up with the wrong solutions like migrant policy and/or lgbt people making everyone soft blah blah blah. The right here are full of contradictions.

thank you for your attention to this matter

Isn't Claire's the place teens go to get ear infections?

[–] NewOldGuard@lemmy.ml 19 points 6 months ago

More like children, they market themselves more towards middle school girls and younger

[–] anotherspinelessdem@lemmy.ml 18 points 6 months ago

Because of the piercing gun that's wildly inferior to a piercing needle? Yep that's the one

[–] KobaCumTribute@hexbear.net 43 points 6 months ago* (last edited 6 months ago) (1 children)

Translation: corporate caught wind of union organization/thought that maybe they heard the word "union" at some point and went scorched earth on the entire location with the hopes of scoring good boy points with the finance ghouls that are looking over them and licking their lips.

[–] Mardoniush@hexbear.net 53 points 6 months ago

More likely just "private equity has bought us and immediately proceeded to strip the copper from the walls."

[–] SkingradGuard@hexbear.net 38 points 6 months ago

I'm going insane living under capitalism. Losing my mind with all this bullshit

[–] OgdenTO@hexbear.net 38 points 6 months ago

To me this seems simply like opportunistic blaming of the left due to Trump's current trend of making anything leftwing terroristic -- yes, private equity closed the store, but maybe if we say it was DET then we can get some funding or relief money from the government.

[–] Evilsandwichman@hexbear.net 34 points 6 months ago

Domestic Economic Terrorism

Ah....so reading between the lines, they're saying they're in 'DET'

[–] cypherpunks@lemmy.ml 28 points 6 months ago

Despite these challenges, Claire's remains committed to their identity as they slowly shrink and transform into a corn cob

[–] retrolasered@feddit.uk 28 points 6 months ago (3 children)

Is this rage baiting sensationalism or something? Claires went into administration/bankrupt, in UK people tastes just changed and people just started shopping elsewhere. Is there a different story to this in US?

[–] purpleworm@hexbear.net 31 points 6 months ago

It's just a normal thing companies do in the US to blame woke for them not being profitable, I guess as an excuse to shareholders or something

[–] VeryVito@lemmy.ml 31 points 6 months ago

Nope. This is just a store’s management weirdly blaming the world for its own shortcomings. I honestly didn’t know Claire’s has been in business for the past 15 years, and I can’t remember the last time I saw one open.

[–] Awoo@hexbear.net 20 points 6 months ago* (last edited 6 months ago)

It's fucking insane right? If people here in the UK saw this they'd be more inclined to never shop there because it's so... Weird. Even putting aside the radical left domestic economic terrorists crap the "prioritising our shareholders" stuff is still likely to be taken extremely poorly by almost anyone.

[–] anotherspinelessdem@lemmy.ml 27 points 6 months ago

We will not be silenced

Oh really what store you gonna talk from then?

[–] Feinsteins_Ghost@hexbear.net 25 points 6 months ago

I took my daughter to a Claires about a month ago.

It is filled with the exact same shit the Dollar Tree nearby sells in the toys/kids/notions dept.

[–] irelephant@lemmy.dbzer0.com 16 points 6 months ago

The radical left agitators are ruining our company. Not the private equity, of course.

[–] Castor_Troy@hexbear.net 14 points 6 months ago

Domestic Economic Terrorism

jesse-wtf

[–] CloutAtlas@hexbear.net 11 points 6 months ago

Claire's Annexure: Chapter 11? Isn't that a French video game?

[–] SteamedHamberder@hexbear.net 4 points 6 months ago

Rax King’s essays have become that powerful.

[–] aanes_appreciator@hexbear.net 3 points 6 months ago

Im gonna call cap. cant find evidence beyond this one image on social media

[–] Arahnya@hexbear.net 3 points 6 months ago* (last edited 6 months ago) (1 children)

So im not entirely sure, but I think this closure letter might be referencing the guy "donnyskipper"

[–] Arahnya@hexbear.net 3 points 6 months ago* (last edited 6 months ago)

Found this comment from the thread of the person who posted the letter on rxddit :

OP Donnyskipper's wife.

I don't know the guy but just looking at his Instagram for context on this, I also saw his wife was 35 weeks pregnant in July. And this account had a baby at the end of August. Donnyskipper has an older child, a girl, which is also the gender of OP's older child and roughly the same age. OP also talks about never wanting their child in NYC, and Donnyskipper lives in NY (Albany area).

To really prove it, in a video from 2022 that I can't link due to sub rules, Donnyskipper says his wife's name is Shay, and she had thyroid cancer. This OP has Shay in her username and had thyroid cancer at the same time.

I'm not trying to doxx anyone - this is all publicly posted information.

I think this is all one big skit and she's in on it, helping him post it to Reddit on a legit account that isn't his.

[–] EllenKelly@hexbear.net 2 points 6 months ago

Yes we're closing, its because of those damn staff trying to unionize, no I will not be showing you our financial paperwork, do not ask about our rental agreement

They openly admit to shafting the employees in pursuit of shareholder profits, true 'murikkkan values.
