Homosexuality? That's a sin.

Shooting Palestinian children in the back? That's good foreign policy.

[–] Imnecomrade@hexbear.net 2 points 3 months ago

Abducting black families and ziptying toddlers? That's good domestic policy.

why even dignify the chuds with a response? Who cares?

[–] Ilixtze@lemmy.ml 28 points 3 months ago

This cartoon is pure brainwashing propaganda! I saw this scene and I turned into an animated tropical forest and two girls kissed in one of my mossy trails!

Reddit atheism is slowly returning to me like a poison. Make it stop.

[–] Owl@hexbear.net 21 points 3 months ago (1 children)

The problem with reddit atheism was always just the reddit.

[–] Riffraffintheroom@hexbear.net 3 points 3 months ago

The problem with Reddit… is it’s full of redditors.

Well then on the other side of the coin you unfortunately have "Gazans deserve to be bombed to death because they are barbarians who hate gays and are still religious in the 21st century" kind of nonsense being spouted.

[–] KobaCumTribute@hexbear.net 8 points 3 months ago (1 children)

The problem with that was that it was more "oh you believe in magical fairy tales instead of pop science youtubers and NYT/WAPO oped pieces? How cringe. How silly and dumb and cringe you are for believing in silly cringe things you silly dumb dumb cringe person. rofl rofl rofl" aesthetic shit as opposed to any sort of actually principled opposition to the horrifying cruelty, chauvinism, and hatred that runs through nearly all religious traditions with the only exceptions being the odd modern heresy that tries to just take all the harmless silly magic stuff and attach it to acceptable egalitarian and humanitarian ethics instead.

Like it was always a bunch of "culturally christian" atheists who thought that all the demonstrably false or absurd parts of the doctrine were embarrassing and contemptible and even worse were used as justification to commit the unforgivable sin of trying to deny cishet white men their precious tasty funtime treats, while still otherwise believing in all the toxic chauvinism, racism, sexism, and homophobia stuff.

You can even see this reflected in media, where it feels like most "criticisms" of christians were that they were just sort of cringe fuddy duddies who didn't know how to have a good time and they did cringe things like spending time with their family and community instead of having fun, and almost never that they were domineering, hateful, abusive monsters who violently enforce conformity and obedience to their deeply bigoted patriarchal white supremacist social mores.

[–] TreadOnMe@hexbear.net 2 points 3 months ago

Exactly. While alot of my friends, online and otherwise, spent their time making fun of (under the guise of critique obviously) Christians and Muslims, I usually spent my time arguing with other supposed atheists, because I mistakenly thought the point was to interrogate poor thinking, not just dunk on obviously stupid ideas.

Like, the largest problem for me was that people would treat the Bible as some sort of unerring word or first hand account, when any honest Biblical scholar knows and talks about how that clearly isn't the case. But the fact that it isn't the case makes the world a much more rich and complex place, as opposed to flat and simplistic. In the same way, many online atheists were bound and determined to make Christians and Muslims into flat and simplistic caractures as opposed to trying to understand the logic and mechanisms of social faith. This limited perspective is what made me think the movement was doomed to fail and sputter out, even as a high schooler. We had abandoned philosophy in exchange for science, without understanding that science is a method of philosophy, thus making our understanding more incomplete.

Honestly we should just start telling these losers to shut the fuck up. Arguing with them or trying to reason with them just gives them legitimacy. Call them piss babies, tell them to shut their stupid traps, and move on with your day imo

[–] BeanisBrain@hexbear.net 17 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago)

Chuds legitimately think that the only reason anyone would ever experience same-sex attraction is because of ~~Jewish~~ liberal propaganda and that if they just stopped anyone from talking about or depicting it, it would vanish within a generation

[–] grendahlgrendahlgen@hexbear.net 17 points 3 months ago (1 children)

It's true. Nobody had ever thought to try being gay until they started showing it on TV.

[–] Evilphd666@hexbear.net 2 points 3 months ago

Trying to be open. I saw Yuri on Ice as my first when I was well into adulthood. It was something so validating - like I finally understood the soap operas my mom liked. It qould have been great to see something like this when I was younger.

[–] Le_Wokisme@hexbear.net 15 points 3 months ago (1 children)

depending on the age this is for the kids might think any mouth kissing is gross

[–] GalaxyBrain@hexbear.net 10 points 3 months ago

But they'll still see it as a gross thing thats not just hetero

[–] Goblinmancer@hexbear.net 13 points 3 months ago

Netflix had gay shows like 10 years ago and they are only outraged now because musk told them netflix is gay now lol.

[–] take_five_moments@hexbear.net 13 points 3 months ago (2 children)

what they don't tell you is the lesbians are mauled to death by dinosaurs in the next frame idk i'm making this up but like deaths always happen during romance scenes in movies

[–] TankieTanuki@hexbear.net 7 points 3 months ago (1 children)

In many horror films, the serial killer exists to punish teenagers for the moral failing of having sex.

Nah, Judge Volcel is about refraining from creeping out your fellow comrades with lewd material, not about living repressed lives.

I grew up in the deep south where fundamentalist adults and educators shamed teenagers for feeling and being sexual and made it their lives' mission to keep them from having any autonomy and privacy whatsoever, and I still resent them all 25 years later.

Jurassic park is a deeply funny franchise in the jurrasic world 3 apparently no dinos are allowed to die because kids are too scared to see a trex dying but they are still allowed to just eat people alive.

The evangelicals are a lost cause on this. But there is a surprisingly high number of non-religious people who will still say “it’s ok to be gay or trans, but kids shouldn’t be exposed to that”

It’s either ok to be gay, or it isn’t. If it’s ok and just as valid as being straight, then why should there be any issue with showing gay relationships in content that would also show straight relationships? I mean, basically once you get past TV and movies for absolute babies, you will see hetero couples in shows like Cocomelon or Daniel Tiger. If you think those shows shouldn’t have gay relationships, then you are accepting the reactionary framing that these relationships are somehow inappropriate, that there is something fundamentally “unnatural” about being gay and thus small children shouldn’t see it. Either that or you think that exposure to gay relationships might somehow make your kid gay, and that to you is a bad thing, which still makes you a bigot despite what you might say about being ok with homosexuality.
