Bill Burr simply understands that to explain to americans that other people are human beings you have to explain it in burgers.

I thought they were going to be riding magic carpets and rubbing lamps and shit but nope, they also Live Mas.

Baja Blastin their way through the Mountain Dunes!

[–] SorosFootSoldier@hexbear.net 49 points 3 weeks ago (7 children)

He has some pretty good takes about billionaires and capitalism then he says something this pants on head?

[–] plinky@hexbear.net 57 points 3 weeks ago

americans are not intellectual people, to put it mildly.jpg

[–] RiotDoll@hexbear.net 44 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago)

i'll be honest, this isn't to go to bat for him, i refuse to do that for anybody, but i always feel like he acts like he's conscientious of the fact he has a platform, and ALSO has an extremely low opinion of that audience's intelligence, so he tries to perform "baby's first empathy" to a cohort who has had their natural empathic responses for outgroups methodically suppressed from birth.

which means if you're ahead of his curve he comes off as an oaf

but he can take accountability for his own cringe, that's how i've been reading him for years tho.

Just because someone has some good takes, doesn't mean they're all good

A lot of people have good domestic policy and dogshit international policy

[–] peeonyou@hexbear.net 12 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago) (3 children)

that goes for everyone here too.. we all have some good takes, but none of us have all good takes

[–] FlakesBongler@hexbear.net 11 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Except for me, The One Perfect Communist smug-explain

Bill's entire shtick is being oafish and appealing to contrarians. This is just melding together the goal of being edgy and contrarian while simultaneously trying to get people that find that edgy contrarianism humourous to see muslims as normal human beings.

The kinds of people that like that oafishness are exactly the kinds of people that need to be taught to see them as humans.

Bill Burr truly is the embodiment of an American.

I'm not a Burr fan but if I was gonna "devil's advocate" him here a sec, I think he's just saying see people do normal ass things acted against what he was propagandized to believe.

[–] LeninWalksTheEarth@hexbear.net 30 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago) (1 children)

i agree with you. Granted he still is taking money from people who put journalists into suitcases so he's really lost all credibility. I guess he would perform for Trump. The Saudis have slaves who don't look too dissimilar from Bills wife.

[–] Le_Wokisme@hexbear.net 23 points 3 weeks ago (3 children)

so does america. i really don't get the extra hate for our good buddies the Saudis like these entertainers and whatever aren't living and working in the good ol' USA the rest of the time making money for horrible people at home.

[–] CommunistBear@hexbear.net 24 points 3 weeks ago

Being paid directly by the crown does hit different. Performing within the US is one thing, performing specifically for Trump would be something else

One could be extremely generous and say that this is a joke designed to make sense to liberal Americans, not Hexbear communists

[–] ConcreteHalloween@hexbear.net 22 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

shrug-outta-hecks

Seems like an asshole regardless

[–] Infamousblt@hexbear.net 13 points 3 weeks ago

This was my first thought. I mean entirely likely he's just an asshole, but also entirely possible that he is purposely trying to frame this in a way to be funny to Americans while also trying to de brainworm them a bit. I can't say I agree with that as a tactic but it certainly could be

[–] Le_Wokisme@hexbear.net 11 points 3 weeks ago

mildly generous

[–] ClathrateG@hexbear.net 17 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago)

If I were to attempt justify this I'd point out the hypocrisy that all these comedians regularly preform in the US with no criticism despite it's also atrocious human rights record

[–] XiaCobolt@hexbear.net 14 points 3 weeks ago (2 children)

I'm not a Bill Burr fan or detractor, he's got a progressive radlib energy means sometimes he says the right thing but here that I think has led him to making a bad decision (going to Riyadh comedy festival, in a country which basically has slavery, untold misery etc ) for lib reasons (the people in Saudi Arabia are normal like us)

Mfw they aren’t shouting death to America kitty-birthday-sad

[–] Spike@hexbear.net 32 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Someone should show him that post with the map of Applebee's in Saudi Arabia

Bill sold out like 12 years ago when he moved in to a gated community next to celebrities. This is normal for him

[–] plinky@hexbear.net 22 points 3 weeks ago (3 children)

i mean being in gated community doesn't make you ignorant, that comes by itself

[–] ClathrateG@hexbear.net 10 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago)

It's both, obvs many people are naturally incurious, but living in a gated community often shrinks your daily in-person interactions down to the people also living in the gated community, thus you are not exposed to the views of those outside it as regularly, thus increasing your ignorance of them, unless purposeful effort is made to curtail that trend

Unrelated to Bill, but my Saudi friend is always shocking me with stories of just how treatlerfied and American Saudi Arabia is, crazy stuff.

[–] WildWeezing420@hexbear.net 19 points 3 weeks ago (2 children)

give it another year or two and they will literally be driving around in lifted pick-up trucks with MBS flags saying "Make Saudi Great Again" and driving them into churches to do mass shootings

[–] axont@hexbear.net 13 points 3 weeks ago (2 children)

there already is a market for lifted pickup trucks in Saudi Arabia because of the little American villages full of American oil workers. A coworker of mine worked at Saudi Aramco for three years and had a lifted F250 imported from the states. But he says a bunch of people there had trucks like that, including the Saudis.

You think everybody's going to be screaming "death to America" and going to have like fucking machetes and want to like chop my head off, right?

That's an entirely reasonable reaction to the presence of Bill Burr though

[–] godlessworm@hexbear.net 26 points 3 weeks ago (2 children)

i just don't get why he even did the festival. he has enough money and income from his fans that he doesn't need to do it. what's another 400k to someone like burr?

[–] peeonyou@hexbear.net 15 points 3 weeks ago

some of them are getting $500,000 for a 1 night show or whatever and a free trip across the world to be wined and dined. they can't resist.

[–] anotherspinelessdem@lemmy.ml 12 points 3 weeks ago

If I'm a comedian with any sense I'm taking the trip and the money and gathering my material for the Ripping Saudi Arabia a New One Tour that starts when I get back. Sure, I can't make fun of them there, but I'm making them regret inviting me in the first place.

[–] 9to5@hexbear.net 25 points 3 weeks ago

They had me at Chillis

[–] segfault11@hexbear.net 25 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)
[–] Leon_Grotsky@hexbear.net 19 points 3 weeks ago

I'm really not familiar with Bill Burr's work and on first read assumed this was a self deprecating joke from him guesting on like Jimmy Fallon or some shit.

[–] MaxOS@hexbear.net 24 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Gets off the plane and runs to the nearest Chili's

[–] nothx@hexbear.net 15 points 3 weeks ago

a plane full of americans had to go 16+ hours without any highly processed slop...

[–] GalaxyBrain@hexbear.net 23 points 3 weeks ago

Bill Burr has become Hank Hill in the new season

[–] Meltyheartlove@hexbear.net 22 points 3 weeks ago

You have this image about Amerikkka with gun totting nazis in pick up trucks that look like monster trucks calling slurs every few seconds eager to lynch (while liberals protest the lynching with civility while calling them Sir and thanking them for their service) or deport me to a slave camp the moment I step foot but you get there and they have MC beanis woth beanis batty vegan cheese burgers and free hot beandogs at the beancos and is that a beanishut next to beanmart? omigod

[–] SexUnderSocialism@hexbear.net 22 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago)

Wow, they even have a Pizza Hut! Did you know much how effort I had to go through to bring that kind of freedom and opportunity to my people? gorby-sad

[–] ClathrateG@hexbear.net 21 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

In the mind of the average burger there's no difference between Lybia, KSA or Iran 'there all freedom hating Muslims and there all in the middle east'

[–] mickey@hexbear.net 12 points 3 weeks ago

The "israeli" genocide and the 12-day war with Iran are really resurfacing early 00's style Islamophobia and I don't know how to be normal about it.

[–] MayoPete@hexbear.net 20 points 3 weeks ago

Are the Honey Chipotle Chicken Crispers halal thinkin-lenin

[–] Goblinmancer@hexbear.net 16 points 3 weeks ago (2 children)

Speaking off Saudis its kinda weird they are buying all up wrestling, comedy, and now gaming (EA). Like just skip the bread part just go full on circus.

[–] Damarcusart@hexbear.net 11 points 3 weeks ago

It's pretty shrewd of them, they probably recognise that the US is going to start quite a few messy wars as they collapse and they want to make sure they don't become a target of one of them. Or it could just be a bog standard maximising profit thing I guess.

Literally everyone on all the travel subreddits say that people in Arab countries are friendly.

[–] Goblinmancer@hexbear.net 11 points 3 weeks ago

Are they just making 3000 variations of "women/wife bad" jokes in the riyadh comedy festival
