What is this place? A safe space for underrepresented peoples and peoples of color to talk, chill, and vibe.
What are the basic rules of the community?
Follow Lemmy TOS and Community Guidelines. Non negotiable. This is the bedrock and mods will make decisions with this always in mind.
This community is for ethnic minorities and people of color. This is a safe space where such people can freely discuss their struggles, insight, and thoughts without fear. If you are not, we respectfully ask you do not post or comment here. A future community will be established to allow for racial discussions with a mixed userbase. However, remember, comments here must still respect Lemmy TOS and Community Guidelines.
Irony Racism is still racism. Racism is bad m'kay? We will treat irony racism and bad faith racist satire as racism. Will wield the ban hammer accordingly.
No sectarianism: This is an identity channel not a channel for you all to complain about why XYZ isn't the "one true leftism". Take that to another place.

Thinking like stupidpol ignores the struggles of the oppressed, their voices, and their need for unique support. Nothing says oppression more than someone saying that the identity you have is "not real" and that if you only thought like them you'd see what your "real" identity is. I don't look XYZ and/or sometimes I can pass as white so I don't know if I can post here. Can I?
This place is for ethnic minorities and people of color. This includes those of mixed heritage and those who may be "white" but are of an ethnicity that is a minority in their area (i.e. Kurds, etc) If you've experienced oppression due to your identity that is not based on sexual / gender identification, you are welcome here.
Moreover, for our American audience, we have people from around the world who are "white" but are oppressed due to being a minority in their country. They are and should be welcomed here.

Mod didn't let the person edit the topics to include a source or whatever. Just said "when? where? Fake news!" and deleted the posts. Then said it was "low effort atrocity porn."

I was just on a walk, and this person, a much older Black woman, stopped me to talk to me, asking me if I was this person she knows.
I was confused at first, but based on the name of the person she brought up, it wasn't me (just someone who might look similar), so after me being a bit perplexed and fumbling my words, I say "No, that's not me." Then she asks me, kind of spontaneously, "Are you male or female?"
I just responded with "What?" because I didn't know what to say. Due to my androgyny, this isn't necessarily an uncommon occurrence, but usually, people just assume and I roll with it. It's not as common that people directly ask "what gender" I am.
After I said "What?", she got upset, and then she started getting very apologetic. I told her that it's okay and that I accept her apology, but nothing I said was able to calm her down, really, so I just kept walking.
Yikes.

Was feeling in a loving mood so was texting family that I loved them dearly, this lead sibling to thinking ICE was picking me up 🙃 I reassured them I was fine but

On this note I will tell the people I love I love them more often and try not to isolate myself online as much for my online friends and anyone here who'd call me a friend so as to not worry that I got disappeared.
There's never too much "I love you" when you greet somebody a goodbye or a cya. I mean, you never know when it's gonna be the last, so its good keep that mind.

Found a really neat Black vegan trans woman to chat with. I wouldn't say I see romantic potential, but it is really nice to have friends who I can vibe with in such ways. We shall see how things go.

I'll be real I'm never surprised or shocked when a rapper denigrates his own race or sells out and I honestly never have been. Disappointed at times yes but not surprised. This is obviously not all rappers of course but I can't tell you the amount of lyrics that would make the KKK sound civil rights activists on some songs
I was able to get the funds I needed for my rent to be covered as well as the transcription equipment. Good! I have an interview tomorrow, too. I feel pretty nice about it. I talked with the owner of this place on the phone, and he seemed to vibe well. Over the phone, he said to me, "Well, the next step is that, if we decide to move forward with you, we will contact you to set up an in-person interview. I have a few other phone calls, so it might take a minute."
However, despite him saying that it might take a minute, he got back to me the very next morning (the morning of today), saying he wants to see me tomorrow morning. He even apologized for short notice, saying he can see me later if I'd prefer. I told him that I am fine with us meeting tomorrow morning, so that is the plan!
I hope this goes well! Since I'm not sure if the transcription job will definitively work out, I am keeping my options open for now.
