Official Title of this Community: Ethnic Minorities and People of Color

Why is the title different?

We like to have fun here.

What is this place? A safe space for underrepresented peoples and peoples of color to talk, chill, and vibe.

What are the basic rules of the community?

  1. Follow Lemmy TOS and Community Guidelines. Non negotiable. This is the bedrock and mods will make decisions with this always in mind.

  2. This community is for ethnic minorities and people of color. This is a safe space where such people can freely discuss their struggles, insight, and thoughts without fear. If you are not, we respectfully ask you do not post or comment here. A future community will be established to allow for racial discussions with a mixed userbase. However, remember, comments here must still respect Lemmy TOS and Community Guidelines.

  3. Irony Racism is still racism. Racism is bad m'kay? We will treat irony racism and bad faith racist satire as racism. Will wield the ban hammer accordingly.

  4. No sectarianism: This is an identity channel not a channel for you all to complain about why XYZ isn't the "one true leftism". Take that to another place.

  5. Stupidpol is not allowed. Stupidpol is class reductionist. We are an identity community. Thinking like stupidpol ignores the struggles of the oppressed, their voices, and their need for unique support. Nothing says oppression more than someone saying that the identity you have is "not real" and that if you only thought like them you'd see what your "real" identity is. Mods reserve the right to ban users and content who promote stupidpol, stupidpol memes, and other class reductionist thinking.

I expect cannibalism to return as a mainstream racist rhetoric in the next 10 years

[–] vegeta1@hexbear.net 11 points 4 months ago (1 children)

They've been using that for Haitian immigrants already.

And remember for a lot of right wingers its been a way to smear native Americans for years hell decades to say they were cannibals. Hell I bet several believe bone tomahawk or cannibal holocaust is legit

i-cant This shit again. Makes me think

Westerners aren’t helpless innocents whose minds are injected with atrocity propaganda, science fiction-style; they’re generally smug bourgeois proletarians who intelligently seek out as much racist propaganda as they can get their hands on. This is because it fundamentally makes them feel better about who they are and how they live. The psychic and material costs are rationally worth the benefits.

bone tomahawk

I still can't get over them doing "not real Indians" in that movie, despite them still being human. During that part of the movie, I thought it was going to be revealed they weren't actual Native Americans as in "they're actually feral British vampires" or dinosaurs or something. Nope! Movie just wanted an excuse to do ethnic cleansing and not have the audience feel bad about it.

I was cheering when the settler got cleaved in half.

If you want the reverse version of this, there's the Michael Crichton book Eaters of the Dead (I believe they also made it a movie called The 13th Warrior).

Set during the Muslim golden age, a sophisticated and educated Muslim man (played by Antonio Banderas lmao) is sent as a diplomatic delegate to the uncivilized European barbarian hinterlands, he stays among norse Vikings or angloids in a misty wet shithole. There are "barbarians" that attack the town constantly, even more barbarous than the vikings. Turns out they are some isolated species of cannibal Neanderthals or something.

Kind of funny that they took the premise of a story that was turning Orientalism on its head by examining backwards and violent Europe through the eyes of a Muslim main character and just made it normal orientalist again by making the whites main characters and the barbarians back into Native Americans. The whole point was to invert the tropes! They just stole Michael Crichton's story and inverted it to make it not clever again.
