I know Seinfeld is just a piece of shit, but...

Isn't Patinkin saying as much because he sees the genocide being committed in Gaza and thinks that it will hurt Jewish people worldwide to have such a heinous crime hanging over their shared culture? That he's rightfully worried that the world will turn on Jewish people worldwide after seeing the horrors of what Netanyahu has done in Gaza?

A quote from Patinkin:

"How could it be done to you and your ancestors, and you turn around and do it to someone else?"

Huh, sounds like he understand the situation pretty well and isn't peddling total bullshit like Seinfeld.

[–] LavaPlanet@sh.itjust.works 38 points 1 month ago

Yeah, I watched him speak on the subject, in a similar clip, he ends up screaming about the atrocities being done and how truly awful it is.

[–] monkeyslikebananas2@lemmy.world 34 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

Yeah, I mean it can be both. Israel committing genocide is both wrong and makes the Jewish people less safe, as they have a country and its leaders creating more enemies in their name. Not all Jewish people agree with Netanyahu or live in Israel.

[–] hector@lemmy.today 27 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

It sounds like he is making an argument to the people committing the genocide and supporting it to show them why it is in their best interest not to do it. Using moral arguments with some people and groups is a waste of time.

They already Trust the people convincing them to do it.

Thank dog, I thought I was going to have to not watch Inigo Montoya again.

[–] Alatain@lemmy.world 3 points 1 month ago

Just as a heads up, but if you did enjoy the Princess Bride, the book/Audio book "As You Wish" is legitimately delightful.

A good amount of the cast get together to talk about all the interesting things that went into making the movie.

[–] PugJesus@piefed.social 107 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (2 children)

Jesus fucking Christ. What a cretin Seinfeld is.

Based Inigo Montoyo, at least.

In a July 2025 New York Times interview with his wife Grody, Patinkin was critical of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's policies during the Gaza War, arguing that his actions are "endangering the Jewish population all over the world" and that "to watch what is happening, for the Jewish people to allow this to happen to children and civilians of all ages in Gaza, for whatever reason, is unconscionable and unthinkable."[64][65][66]

[–] Gradually_Adjusting@lemmy.world 67 points 1 month ago (5 children)

Can't express my relief that he's a good guy. Having a complicated relationship with The Princess Bride would break me tbh

[–] Trex202@lemmy.world 19 points 1 month ago

Inconceivable!

Wild that George and Elaine are the best humans of those four when they were arguably the worst in the show. Fuck Jerry, fuck Michael Richards, and even though he’s otherwise been ok fuck Larry for the crytpo shilling

[–] blitzen@lemmy.ca 12 points 1 month ago (2 children)

I’ve posted this elsewhere, I don’t think Richards is a piece of shit like Seinfeld.

The Michael Richards incident was a literal one time event, albeit a terrible one. There were zero instances before and zero instances after that suggest Richards is racist. Everything since then Michaels has done suggests he’s exceedingly remorseful over it.

I am not excusing it in the least, but I don’t think it’s even close to fair to compare him to someone currently supporting the genocide in Palestine.

[–] Soulg@ani.social 9 points 1 month ago

Richards just did a bad thing once trying to shut down a heckler and it backfired hard. People just don't want to ever forgive.

[–] alekwithak@lemmy.world 2 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Is it even close to publicly supporting a genocide? Hell no. Is it something a non-racist person would ever even think to say? Also hell no.

[–] blitzen@lemmy.ca 1 points 1 month ago (2 children)

So you excuse Seinfeld here, but still hold Richards 100% accountable?

[–] alekwithak@lemmy.world 5 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Also a hell no. In fact what are you talking about? What did I say that you feel implied that?

[–] blitzen@lemmy.ca 1 points 1 month ago (2 children)

Is it [Seinfeld’s comments] even close to publicly supporting a genocide? Hell no.

[–] cyberwitch@reddthat.com 4 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (4 children)

It looks to me like what they're referring to is Michael Richards tirade being uncomparable to Jerry's comments that were supporting the genocide. That's how I read it, anyway.

But I mean he (Richards) was talking about lynching the guy at the Laugh Factory, so even as far as racism goes, that's pretty fucking up there.

[–] alekwithak@lemmy.world 5 points 1 month ago

It's aways nice to see reading comprehension out in the wild.

[–] alekwithak@lemmy.world 2 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Okay, I suppose I was too vague.

Is it [Richard’s comments] even close to [ being as bad as] publicly supporting a genocide? Hell no.

I'm saying Richards may be a better person than Seinfeld, but I wouldn't excuse his words or actions because they're not something a non-racist would ever even think to do or say.

Hope that is clear now.

[–] blitzen@lemmy.ca 2 points 1 month ago

And I’m not trying to excuse the words or his behavior on stage. Only trying to acknowledge his behavior since the day after the incident and for the last 20 years as steadfastly apologetic. His words were wrong, and importantly he thinks so too.

[–] ryedaft@sh.itjust.works 2 points 1 month ago

Nah, they are saying Seinfeld is excusing a genocide.

[–] idiomaddict@lemmy.world 5 points 1 month ago

Larry David introduced RFK Jr and his wife (Cheryl Hines, also from cye)

[–] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 3 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

jason alexander has better acting range, than nazi seinfeld. he played kursk in voyager star trek.

[–] Noblesavage@lemmy.world 43 points 1 month ago (3 children)

I think it's important to watch the clip that this headline of Mandy Patinkin is referencing to be able to appreciate the fuller context of this meme. Unfortunately, this meme is vague enough to confuse people comparing what Seinfeld said with what Patinkin said. Patkin also does an amazing throw back to Princess Bride to make his point too! https://youtu.be/dFjOb9DGS1w

[–] khannie@lemmy.world 10 points 1 month ago

This is the context I came to the comments for. Thank you. I knew Mandy was a solid human.

[–] psx_crab@lemmy.zip 8 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (1 children)

Wow, that's just fucking dishonest for people to twist what he actually mean. Just because his perspective didn't start from the people of gaza doesn't mean he didn't think the situation is fucked up and the israel government is fucking evil. People who twist his words have the ulterior motive of wanting the eradication of Israel.

Edit: on second thought, the pic above doesn't claim patinkin don't care about the palestinians, but they word it in a way it feels like he just care about the israeli.

[–] FLP22012005@lemmy.world 3 points 1 month ago

The meme could be interpreted as contrasting the two. I read it as such at first, but started doubting as I read the comments.

[–] wowwoweowza@lemmy.world 7 points 1 month ago

I just love Mandy for that shrillness he allows into his voice at the end. He’s passionate about this.

[–] JoMiran@lemmy.ml 40 points 1 month ago (1 children)

I have words. Jerry is a piece of shit. Mandy is a treasure.

[–] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 5 points 1 month ago

hes the guy that left criminal MINDS show, because it became too glorified for violence.

[–] DmMacniel@feddit.org 15 points 1 month ago (4 children)

Reaction Meme of Walter Sobchak from The Big Lebowski pulling his gun and yelling "Has the whole world gone crazy?"

seriously what is the deal with dumb celebrities?

[–] caseyweederman@lemmy.ca 5 points 1 month ago

Obligatory Mandy Patinkin was making the opposite point than is suggested by the OP's excerpt

Want to point out Seinfeld is currently on tour and basically trying to get free press to sell tickets.

He doesn’t care about anything but his shit ton of money. Fuck him.

[–] zipzoopaboop@lemmynsfw.com 3 points 1 month ago

His money and underage women

[–] Godric@lemmy.world 10 points 1 month ago

"No words"

Post is made up almost entirely of words

[–] Tigeroovy@lemmy.ca 8 points 1 month ago (2 children)

With everyone also still thinking about the Epstein files, you really think now is the time to open your mouth and say some dumb shit, Jerry? Trying to distract people so they won’t bring up your 17 year old girlfriend again?

OMG you can have good and bad jews? is that a thing?

[–] morphballganon@mtgzone.com 2 points 1 month ago (1 children)

You can have good and bad people, for sure. I don't see why those categories couldn't each include any/every religion.

Good gravy, are you saying people should be judged by their actions, not their beliefs?

A clueless and amoral Ashkenazi/European "Jew" supports the genocidal ethnostate his forefathers fought so hard to build and his tribe is currently murdering innocents to maintain? Woah!
