Eduardo Galeano, born on September 3rd in 1940, was a Uruguayan journalist and author known for, among other texts, his work "Open Veins of Latin America", which the editors of Monthly Review Press called "perhaps the finest description of the primary accumulation of capital since Marx".

Galeano began his career as a political cartoonist and journalist - at fourteen, he was contributing political cartoons to the socialist newspaper "El Sol". At 20, he was the managing director of "Marcha", a storied weekly in Uruguay.

Some of his high profile work as a journalist includes an interview with Juan PerΓ³n, a laudatory profile of Che Guevara, and a portrait of Pu Yi, the last emperor of China, who had just completed his Maoist re-education in a nondescript building on the outskirts of Beijing.

Galeano is perhaps best known for his book "Open Veins of Latin America", which details how, through five centuries of plunder by European conquistadors and American corporations, the region's abundant natural resources had been extracted to enrich a few local elites and many foreign interests.

The editors of Monthly Review Press, which published the U.S. edition, described the book as "perhaps the finest description of the primary accumulation of capital since Marx." President Hugo ChΓ‘vez gave a Spanish-language copy of Open Veins to President Barack Obama on his first diplomatic visit to the region.

"The human murder by poverty in Latin America is secret: every year, without making a sound, three Hiroshima bombs explode over communities that have become accustomed to suffering with clenched teeth."

I just spend like 30 minutes arguing with an LLM chatbot about whether a city government could logistically do something. It vehemently argued that it was physics impossible.

My local government did it last year.

I was just so entertained by its intransigence and irrationality. Usually LLMs acquiesce fairly quickly. This one went in circles like its prime directive was "government can't do thinga".

I been trying to unlock more ships in FTL and started with cloak ship, saidly i had 2 runs that forced to go to an asteriot belt to go to the exist so i could get the achivement and i think beam weapons dont count for the kill an enemy ship in one cloak so i just decided to kill the flagship since it was a good run (i had 3 shields, weapons preigniter, dual laser, halbelt beam and flak 2) and it was pretty easy, flak 2 pretty much killed all the shields and halbert beam only needed 2 shot to kill

Horseflies are favourite animal~

I love that they NEVER EVER give up. I try to aspire to that level every day. And also they suck blood and bite people, truly an animal after my own heart.

I don't wanna post a whole of a lot and thus clogging the mega, but where do I post my long critique of my special interest? Last comment for context: https://hexbear.net/comment/6462365

c/worldbuilding kinda seems pertinent at first glance, because it's a critique of how the SCP mythology and wiki are structured, but it's not really a place for critiques upon first glance, but more so for just general discussion of worldbuilding. c/chat seems more for just general banter. c/effort seems like for socialist non-fiction. And I don't think I can post a 30 paragraph post to the mega.

How do you stop being ashamed of your shit media taste? Like, I watch an incredible movie such as Mulholland Dr. or Cinema Paradiso, I feel things, I recognize them as masterpieces, but they don't stay in my soul if that makes sense, while inferior media such as anime or tokusatsu shows just affect me more. I shouldn't care this much about this, but I am always self-conscious about this and I don't know why it is so fucking weird.

Not liking fun art is internalized classism. It is that white marble statue shit. Probably some of that CIA writer's workshop shit as well If your story is comprehensible people might start to think about a better world being possible so that has to be frowned upon.

Fun movies aren't worse cause they are fun.

I still think dictionaries adding "figuratively" as a definition for "literally" is silly. Not because I think they're causing the decline of language or whatever other prescriptivist take, but because I don't think anyone actually means "figuratively" by it. The meaning it imparts on a sentence is more like "very much" or "to a high degree" even if those don't fit grammatically as a drop in replacement. It's only ever used in cases where a sentence being figurative is already heavily implied.

Haha, I'm literally dying! | That was very funny.
You're literally the funniest person ever! | You are very funny.
There are literally millions of people who like Korn | A lot of people like Korn.

Usually young people all look very different and old people look the same to me, but with the members of Pink Floyd, I can only tell them apart when they're old.
