Welcome to the discussion of US Politics!

Rules:

  1. Post only links to articles, Title must fairly describe link contents. If your title differs from the site’s, it should only be to add context or be more descriptive. Do not post entire articles in the body or in the comments.

Links must be to the original source, not an aggregator like Google Amp, MSN, or Yahoo.

Example:

  1. Articles must be relevant to politics. Links must be to quality and original content. Articles should be worth reading. Clickbait, stub articles, and rehosted or stolen content are not allowed. Check your source for Reliability and Bias here.
  2. Be civil, No violations of TOS. It’s OK to say the subject of an article is behaving like a (pejorative, pejorative). It’s NOT OK to say another USER is (pejorative). Strong language is fine, just not directed at other members. Engage in good-faith and with respect! This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban.
  3. No memes, trolling, or low-effort comments. Reposts, misinformation, off-topic, trolling, or offensive. Similarly, if you see posts along these lines, do not engage. Report them, block them, and live a happier life than they do. We see too many slapfights that boil down to "Mom! He's bugging me!" and "I'm not touching you!" Going forward, slapfights will result in removed comments and temp bans to cool off.
  4. Vote based on comment quality, not agreement. This community aims to foster discussion; please reward people for putting effort into articulating their viewpoint, even if you disagree with it.
  5. No hate speech, slurs, celebrating death, advocating violence, or abusive language. This will result in a ban. Usernames containing racist, or inappropriate slurs will be banned without warning

We ask that the users report any comment or post that violate the rules, to use critical thinking when reading, posting or commenting. Users that post off-topic spam, advocate violence, have multiple comments or posts removed, weaponize reports or violate the code of conduct will be banned.

All posts and comments will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. This means that some content that violates the rules may be allowed, while other content that does not violate the rules may be removed. The moderators retain the right to remove any content and ban users.

That's all the rules!

Let me skip to the future decision for you: yes 6-3

Majority opinion written by Clarence Thomas.

Reality really is stranger than fiction sometimes.

Society tends to repeat on approximately 80-100 year cycles. Just long enough for the generations affected by bullshit to lose their voices and die.

Are. You. Fucking. Kidding. Me???

What the fuck America? Honestly. What the actual fuck has happened to your nation.

[–] otter@lemmy.dbzer0.com 77 points 2 weeks ago

Exactly what it looks like. Fascism is raping its corpse.

[–] flandish@lemmy.world 54 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago) (1 children)

we’vr had sleeper cells of nazis and bootlickers on “both” sides of the aisles for a century or so because they’re all actually aged capitalists. When capitalists feel like their quality of life and profit is threatened, by labor or technology, they will work toward two things:

Moving the overton window in small steps as they test the waters and then implementing actual fascism in the waters where their tests succeeded.

Notice the areas with martial law are not really big on public ownership of guns or understanding of castle doctrine? That’s on purpose.

We never had a true democracy and that fact is coming around to bite us and everyone else in the ass again. We don't have Christian denominations anymore, we have sports teams. We don't have politics, we wage culture war. God damn bless america... I fucking hate it here

[–] jjjalljs@ttrpg.network 16 points 2 weeks ago

The us was never wholly good. Maybe 3/5ths good, at best.

Just when you think, it couldn't possibly get any more absurd.

[–] otter@lemmy.dbzer0.com 23 points 2 weeks ago

Wait. There are still people who doubt this timeline's consistently proven penchant for exponential fuckery? Are they one of those no-contact tribes? (Although, I've always wondered if those tribes were as much isolationist as "nah, fuck all of your world -we're good.")

I was just thinking this! They’re bringing the meme to real life.

[–] ayyy@sh.itjust.works 15 points 2 weeks ago

It was never a joke. Nazis are truly this stupid.

[–] Archangel1313@lemmy.ca 67 points 2 weeks ago (7 children)

Wasn't this already decided when they ruled that stop-and-frisk laws were unconstitutional due to racial profiling?

[–] tburkhol@lemmy.world 80 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Lol. You think this court cares what happened in 2013?

[–] Theprogressivist@lemmy.world 21 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Only if it happened in 1862.

Why respect precedent when you can just make a new one and get bribed for it?

We've been here before. Looking Jewish, sounding Jewish, being where Jews might live or be, doing jobs that Jews might do.

Dear Supreme Court: you don't need to. They can't.

Dear Congress: impeach Trump. If someone blocks you, impeach them.

Dear MAGA idiots: shut up and grow up.

[–] havocpants@lemmy.world 23 points 2 weeks ago

Yeah, feels a bit too late for that. This isn't going to stop until the non-fascist Americans drag them out into the streets and dispense justice. People are going to die and the good guys are going to need to organise a whole lot first.

[–] hperrin@lemmy.ca 42 points 2 weeks ago

Can I pay taxes on “apparent income”?

[–] Deflated0ne@lemmy.world 38 points 2 weeks ago

Oh joy.

This court. Deciding if cops can openly be racist.

I wonder how they will rule. Lmao.

[–] deadbeef79000@lemmy.nz 36 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Finally, ICE (and friends) can get new uniforms designed by Hugo Boss.

So, where will that leave Puerto Rican people? Puerto Rico is part of the Untied States but the people look foreign

[–] frezik@lemmy.blahaj.zone 16 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago) (2 children)

Sometimes, I don't even know why the state option is popular in Puerto Rico. It definitely is; they've had two official but non-binding referendum on this in the recent past, and the statehood option was a clear winner. Won by good margins over both maintaining current status or going independent.

Ultimately, I think it should be up to the people of PR to decide what they want to do, but geeze, this isn't a great time to join the Union.

[–] Pelicanen@sopuli.xyz 27 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

To be fair, they're already part of the Union whether they want to or not, it's more a matter of if they get to have political representation or not.

[–] kent_eh@lemmy.ca 18 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

Are you saying they are experiencing taxation without representation?

Come one man, you know where because it's already happening.

[–] YiddishMcSquidish@lemmy.today 17 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

Puerto Rican? Mexican.

Mediterranean? Mexican.

Native American? Mexican.

We have the whitest populace cause of jail.

[–] inclementimmigrant@lemmy.world 12 points 2 weeks ago

Dude, as an Asian American I've had quite a few times I've been called a Mexican.

Can't wait to share this with my Latino friends who voted for Trump.

[–] Multiplexer@discuss.tchncs.de 24 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Guys, that is a reeaaaallly slippery slope. Don't. Just don't.

-A concerned German-

[–] 4grams@awful.systems 13 points 2 weeks ago

The slope is vertical. We might catch ourselves before we crater, but I don’t have much hope.

We know how this is going to go with the court's record lately. It is just Trump's lapdogs jumping when he tells them too.

[–] Fit_Series_573@lemmy.world 20 points 2 weeks ago

How is this even up for debate? It's like we went 100+ years in the past 🤦‍♂️

[–] Clam_Cathedral@lemmy.ml 17 points 2 weeks ago

We just have to convince the conservatives that this would be a DEI program and it'll be a slam dunk case. /s

[–] apftwb@lemmy.world 13 points 2 weeks ago

I wonder which way they will go...
