I don't feel like Gavin has the juice. He's sauceless. This ain't the stuff. It's greasy. He's all greasy. People will feel the grease creeping up on them. He's serving up some Mitt Romney energy. Everyone hated Mitt Romney. People who care about policy don't like him because either A) they're rich conservative assholes who think he's a communist who gives free money to undocumented immigrants or B) they actually pay attention to what he says about trans people and how he treats the homeless. If you vote based on vibes (i.e. a good 75% of the populace, at least) then you know the vibes are off even for many Californians and the further away you get from California the more people hate him. First for being from California, then for being a liberal, and finally just because the greasy aura his soul exudes.

Buckets and buckets of grease.

He even vaguely looks like Romney, at least the 2012 version. Maybe they just both have similar unmemorable faces.

I think you're onto something, old photo of each for reference:

[–] Cat_Daddy@hexbear.net 12 points 1 month ago

Literally the same picture

[–] jack@hexbear.net 29 points 1 month ago

Yeah this shit feels hollow as hell and absolutely cannot be maintained until 2028 unless Gavin actually starts waging war against the federal government

[–] Robert_Kennedy_Jr@hexbear.net 20 points 1 month ago

All the grease comes from what he works into his hair.

[–] Homeless@hexbear.net 11 points 1 month ago

No shit Gavin Newsom doesn't have the juice, we knew this shit since the LA protests. He's literally just a sticky removed like every other white man in the GOP, or just politics in general.

The Democrat's only chance is maybe JB Pritzker but at this point, I don't think there's hope

The country's full of racists, there's no hope for progress anymore

It's weird watching this kind of "focus group tested" MAGA stuff, it's both the regular MAGA slimy and the soulless corporate democrat slimy, it's the worst of both worlds. I can't imagine this actually appealing to any significant number of people, is there really an untapped group of voters in America who want this?

[–] jack@hexbear.net 16 points 1 month ago

Nearly 3% of American voters are resonating with this inhuman messaging the-democrat

[–] krolden@lemmy.ml 13 points 1 month ago (1 children)

I see people cheering him on like that's just how politics work now

[–] casskaydee@hexbear.net 12 points 1 month ago (1 children)

What percentage of the people cheering him on were guaranteed to vote for literally whatever candidate the Dems put up? I'm thinking it's got to be in the 90s

[–] krolden@lemmy.ml 5 points 1 month ago

99.99999999999999999%

[–] segfault11@hexbear.net 56 points 1 month ago (1 children)

we're going to have nothing but republican presidents until amerika is over

[–] Cat_Daddy@hexbear.net 44 points 1 month ago (5 children)

Or Republicans with a (D) beside their name

[–] SacredExcrement@hexbear.net 11 points 1 month ago

Same as it has been for more than a few decades

[–] vegeta1@hexbear.net 54 points 1 month ago

I can smell the desperation from another continent seen-this-one

[–] Assian_Candor@hexbear.net 39 points 1 month ago

This is great strategy, normal people love MAGA

[–] moss_icon@hexbear.net 36 points 1 month ago

The Democrats after losing the 2028 election because they made the exact same mistakes as 2024 surprised-pika

[–] sodium_nitride@hexbear.net 34 points 1 month ago

As someone who doesn't keep up with this shit but does occasionally see it escape containment, this is amongst the clingiest shit I have ever seen come out of a democrat candidate and if people with less context and/tolerance for cringe see this it will do massive damage to the dem brand.

"the dems are too out of touch", this is true just not in the way that the reactionaries say. Parties need messages that appeal to people even out of the context that terminally online folks have.

Excellent strategy decision to market yourself as US nationalist when 60+% of your (potential) base is favorable toward Palestine in that point a couple weeks back. I think it's only a matter of time until the DSA are as mainstream as Bernie was. Obviously not going to stop libshit from happening, cause anything actually cool will not gain any traction, but it's going to make things a lot more interesting.

Culture in the West is in the midst of a right wing "backlash" against neoliberalism, but the support for it can't hold indefinitely since capital will necessarily have to betray the support it gets from the lower and middle working classes. NYC isn't interesting for this, but it will be interesting to see what happens when Zohran 2.0 is running somewhere that has a measurable amount of cross-party ballots.

Democrats will cream at that sort of cross-party performance cause their ideal is winning exactly 50%+1 of the vote in 50%+1 of the elections.

Culture in the West is in the midst of a right wing "backlash" against neoliberalism

It's so funny that they haven't really offered a real alternative though, it's all still wrapped in "free market" evangelism.

[–] spectre@hexbear.net 13 points 1 month ago

No yeah I guess I'm saying there's plenty of room in the US for a socialist party with prominent bourgeois characteristics, but Democrats definitely can't be that even if it's so hosting obvious.

[–] WrongOnTheInternet@hexbear.net 7 points 1 month ago

What are they going to do, simply not vote?

[–] Futterbinger@hexbear.net 30 points 1 month ago (1 children)

I hope they actually try to organize a Gavin boat parade. You know it would be a bunch of fuckhead libs in kayaks and on stand up paddle boards all getting swamped the instant a larger boat creates any sort of wake.

[–] Cat_Daddy@hexbear.net 21 points 1 month ago

And you know some rich piece of shit with a yacht would be out there doing just that, so it's guaranteed funnies

[–] Chapo_is_Red@hexbear.net 28 points 1 month ago

Gavin Newsom stealing from the MAGA communism playbook smdh

It'd be kinda funny if he successfully co-opted the slogan, since it'd piss off Haz et al

[–] krolden@lemmy.ml 27 points 1 month ago

So much cringe and people love it

[–] Evilphd666@hexbear.net 26 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Following the treatler is not leading. Weak. Unimaginative.

Even the Red ballcaps? Really? I mean your team's color is vote.

I guess he's happy to announce he's a secret Republican collusion. Might explain all the "supermajority proof" vetos.

[–] BelieveRevolt@hexbear.net 32 points 1 month ago

$32 for a red cap that says REAL PATRIOT on it in Impact font. Also, there's no way people won't just assume you're a Trumper if you wear that. I guess if you really like explaining to everyone that ”no, it's a hat making fun of Trump! I support Newsom because he's a real Constitution-reading patriot!”

The strategy that has never worked for Democrats, calling yourself the real Amerikkka-loving patriot.
