For me: noticed, even if it is not too cold, but too warm, I need a blanket to fall asleep. The weight of the blanket makes it more comfortable, I guess? πŸ›Œ

No. I need a blanket. Specifically my heavy weighted Mexican tiger blank, all year long, even through peak summer heat.

[–] Reverendender@sh.itjust.works 16 points 3 months ago (1 children)

β€œMexican tiger blank;” I have so many questions…

[–] GrantUsEyes@lemmy.zip 16 points 3 months ago

Something like this, sold at county fairs usually by a screaming guy with a mic in front of a crowd, ... Quite iconic. Now a days they are shittier quality.

[–] Tolookah@discuss.tchncs.de 7 points 3 months ago (1 children)

I've got a weighed blanket that is oddly not hot. Bamboo maybe? It was a gift. Air gets through, light does not.

I have one that has like a knit structure(?), so it provides basically no heating.

[–] Devmapall@lemmy.zip 5 points 3 months ago

I also need my weighted blanket. Well, need is a little strong. I vastly prefer having over other blankets.

Can't do sheets they're far too light for me

[–] Nemo@slrpnk.net 16 points 3 months ago (1 children)

I can fall asleep on the bus. It's fine.

[–] turkalino@lemmy.yachts 19 points 3 months ago

I’m so weird about this. If I’m sitting or slightly reclined, I can sleep fine without a blanket. Once I’m horizontal, 100% need a blanket

[–] Cruxifux@feddit.nl 11 points 3 months ago (1 children)

No. I will sweat my entire bag off over the night to have a blanket. I have been laying ice packs around my bed every night recently, to offset my weird blanket insanity.

[–] Aatube@kbin.melroy.org 6 points 3 months ago

weird blanket insanity

[–] rigatti@lemmy.world 8 points 3 months ago

Nah, I gotta burrito up.

[–] andrewta@lemmy.world 6 points 3 months ago

During the summer months, pretty much all that is on my bed is a fitted sheet and a bed sheet covering me.

I live in mid Minnesota (US).

[–] over_clox@lemmy.world 6 points 3 months ago

I'm more or less with you, I need a blanket. For slightly different reasons though.

I have to feel some sort of texture when I sleep, otherwise I get bad dreams of falling from high places if I'm sleeping on/under silky smooth surfaces.

[–] blackbrook@mander.xyz 6 points 3 months ago (2 children)

For those who need the weight of a blanket, they should make a loose chainmail blanket for hot days.

[–] glowing_hans@sopuli.xyz 1 points 3 months ago (1 children)

you are a good inventor to be honest. My idea, make it even heavier with lead balls πŸ’€.

[–] blackbrook@mander.xyz 2 points 3 months ago

The limited edition luxury model is extra heavy already, because it's made from gold.

[–] Nasan@sopuli.xyz 1 points 3 months ago

I would totally buy a chainmail onesie

[–] RebekahWSD@lemmy.world 5 points 3 months ago (1 children)

I need something to cover my ear as I sleep on my side due to...anxiety? Autism? Some terrible deep thing I don't know about? So blanket it is.

This is painful in the summer.

I can sleep more places (I'll place my hand over my ear) but because I'm contorted it won't be a good or long sleep.

[–] titter@lemmy.world 3 points 3 months ago (1 children)

I converted sweat pants into shorts and the length i took off i was able to fold in half inside of itself so it made a double layered tube. It's been a great sleepy mask because it covers ears and eyes thoroughly without making my head too hot. Maybe this can be an option for you?

Every summer I have to re-learn how to sleep without a blanket. I used to turn on the air conditioner so my room is cool enough to sleep with a blanket before I realized that's dumb as hell.

[–] tburkhol@lemmy.world 5 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Room temperature above 24Β°C, no blanket. Above 26Β°C, I don't even need a sheet, but I'll usually keep it, because cold air from the A/C sometimes disturbs me.

I know plenty of people who insist on cooling their room at night so that they can be comfortable under a blanket.

[–] glowing_hans@sopuli.xyz 4 points 3 months ago

seems like they are willing to invest energy, so they can feel comfortable with a blanket, interesting!

[–] Jankatarch@lemmy.world 4 points 3 months ago

I can on couch but not bed.

[–] ctry21@sh.itjust.works 4 points 3 months ago (2 children)

No. Even in the summer during a heatwave I was sleeping with a 15 tog duvet because I need the weight, until I got a weighted blanket which is much more comfortable. I can fall asleep on the couch without a blanket though which is weird, just not in bed.

I can sleep on the couch if I’m dressed in bed I’m usually just in underwear.

[–] dingus@lemmy.world 2 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Do weighted blankets retain heat all? I love blankets, but it has been difficult to use anything more than a thin sheet (and even that is often stretching it) when it is crazy hot outside and the upstairs isn't cooled well by the AC.

[–] ctry21@sh.itjust.works 2 points 3 months ago

They seem pretty good for not trapping too much heat, but we have quite cool summers here so what I would consider an unbearably hot day is probably different to most people. I could comfortably sleep in it under 24Β°C, anything above that and I can't sleep no matter what type of blanket I have anyway. There are cooling ones made of cotton that might work if you're in a hotter climate but they cost a fair bit more.

[–] xavier666@lemmy.umucat.day 4 points 3 months ago

You have never visited a tropical country I presume.

[–] scottmeme@sh.itjust.works 4 points 3 months ago

Most of the time I sleep with a thin sheet, no comforter or blankets needed. In the winter I might use a few blankets when it gets cold.

[–] TherapyGary@lemmy.blahaj.zone 4 points 3 months ago (1 children)

I can sleep without a blanket, but only if I'm wearing at least pants, socks, and a shirt, so idk if that counts lol

[–] glowing_hans@sopuli.xyz 3 points 3 months ago

The additional clothing acts as your blanket weight lmao

[–] the_riviera_kid@lemmy.world 4 points 3 months ago

I frequently sleep without a blanket in front of a fan, Its too hot and humid for anything else.

[–] Ledivin@lemmy.world 3 points 3 months ago

I wouldn't choose to, if I didn't have to, I guess? But I wouldn't say I have a lot of trouble if it's too hot for one

[–] Zombiepirate@lemmy.world 3 points 3 months ago

If I'm camping, absolutely. Preferably in a hammock. It's hot as hell where I live.

[–] SkaveRat@discuss.tchncs.de 3 points 3 months ago

sleeping: yes

falling asleep: with difficulty

[–] Heikki2@lemmy.world 3 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Summer time, yes. I run hot and just need a pillow

Winter a bed sheet is generally all I need. I do that like to sleep and sweat

[–] monovergent@lemmy.ml 1 points 3 months ago

Rarely if it gets hot enough, I'll toss the pillow aside first.

But I'm also the same person who voluntarily sleeps on a padded sheet of plywood instead of a mattress

[–] dohpaz42@lemmy.world 2 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago)

I have a weighted blanket. Some nights it’s the best. Some nights I feel trapped by the weight. That aside, I find that if I keep one leg out my body temp is just fine. Otherwise, I get too hot. But also, some nights my leg gets too cold and I need to cover back up.

~β€œNormal” is a privilege I cannot afford.~

[–] etchinghillside@reddthat.com 2 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Nope. Can’t even recall the last time I tried.

And I think some amount of weight helps. I have a down sleeping bag that is almost too light and I vaguely recall trying to sleep with a Mylar blanket sucking. (But that could have been other factors.)

[–] glowing_hans@sopuli.xyz 1 points 3 months ago

Seems like I am not the only one, though I hope I can stop using a blanket in the future as a minimalist sleeping experiment.

[–] monovergent@lemmy.ml 2 points 3 months ago

No, I need something to keep a pocket of warm air around me, unless:

  • It's hot enough I'd sweat with the blanket on
  • I'm tired enough I'm actively fighting to stay awake
  • I'm wearing something equivalent to a blanket like a puffy jacket (for the times I was exiled to the couch in college)
[–] wuphysics87@lemmy.ml 2 points 3 months ago

Sometimes I like to double up

[–] scytale@piefed.zip 2 points 3 months ago

Up until my mid-twenties, yes. Lived in a tropical country and no A/C, just fans. I only started using a blanket when I finally lived in a place with A/C.

[–] IWW4@lemmy.zip 2 points 3 months ago

If a sheet counts as a blanket no. I need at least a sheet.

[–] ZeroHora@lemmy.ml 2 points 3 months ago

I can only sleep with a blanket too. If I not covered by a blanket the monsters will get me!

[–] eru@mouse.chitanda.moe 2 points 3 months ago (1 children)

nah weighted blanket not even enough i need to hug something

It's really hard, but it's been consistently like 90-95 degrees outside and I don't have A/C. Kinda had to get used to sleeping with a fan blowing directly on me. I still miss my blanket though, as soon as the fall comes I will return to burrito.

[–] Stalinwolf@lemmy.ca 1 points 3 months ago

I try to, but I never actually reach unconsciousness until I inevitably get cold and pull the sheets or blanket over my body to some degree. I find that on particularly hot nights, it's enough to drape a sheet over my waist, so long as my feet are outside.

[–] Majestic@lemmy.ml 1 points 3 months ago

I need at least sheets that are thick enough not to let light through, not super thin sheets. It's annoying in summer months. I need my feet covered because I'm paranoid about mosquitos though it's rare for them to actually get inside and I need my head/eyes covered as well or it just doesn't feel right, partly about light and muffling noise.

And for me it's definitely a horizontal sleeping thing too. Propped up I can fall asleep while being only partially covered or hardly at all but horizontal I have to have it.
