For example, I don't like Will Ferrell in his typical roles. Oh they just drive me batty.

But. I do love Stranger Than Fiction. It's such a cozy movie.

Jessie eisenberg. He only plays jessie Eisenberg. I hate his whiny delivery. The “Now you see me” movies were awful, and he ruined Lex Luthor.

I can’t think of anything he’s been in that I’ve thought was good.

(Nicholas hoult as LL looks great though)

Jared Leto, too bad he is in the Tron: Ares which I'm almost looking forward to watch simply because of nine inch nails...

[–] Tier1BuildABear@lemmy.world 1 points 51 minutes ago

Ben Stiller. I just can't get into anything he's in. He's just reading lines, nepo-baby for sure.

Exceptions: dodgeball, and tropic thunder, holy FUCK is he funny in tropic thunder

I came here to say Will Ferrell with the same exception, then read your post.

Stranger Than Fiction shows Will Ferrell is perfectly capable of being a good actor playing interesting roles, but chooses to just play low effort trash.

[–] ivanafterall@lemmy.world 2 points 1 hour ago

It might not be for everyone, but he's also really perfect for Elf. My daughter and I have tried to recast it in the past for fun and who's better for that role!? I actually think Paul Rudd would be another who could maybe pull it off, maybe.

Jeremy Renner.

Has he ever actually been good in anything (besides the Jeremy Renner app and his legendary rock and roll music)?

[–] GreenKnight23@lemmy.world 3 points 34 minutes ago

he was pretty good in hurt locker.

[–] setsneedtofeed@lemmy.world 3 points 1 hour ago

I liked him in 28 Weeks Later. The movie itself had a lot of issues, but I think he was a good choice.

Jonah Hill with the exception of Wolf of the Wall Street

My wife laothes Tom Cruise. Hard stop. No exceptions. I don't have any problems with him as an actor, the Scientology insanity is a whole other matter.

...maybe one exception: I was able to talk her into seeing Edge of Tomorrow by telling her that he dies 26 times on-screen and countless times off-screen.

I apologise if this seems inappropriate, but I kinda like your wife now. And you for putting that argument up in the first place.

Ryan Reynolds. The exception would be Waiting. I’m just so over him and his one dimensional acting.

[–] kieron115@startrek.website 3 points 2 hours ago

That's because he isn't acting. Somewhere along the line he stopped being the actor known as Ryan Reynolds and just became the character Ryan Reynolds.

[–] ivanafterall@lemmy.world 1 points 1 hour ago

Cuz he's got three dimensional handsome.

[–] dkppunk@lemmy.world 7 points 5 hours ago (1 children)

I have two.

I do not like Will Ferrell in his typical roles at all and I’m glad I’m not the only one saying this anymore. Everyone quotes Anchorman and I just did not enjoy that at all, or Elf, Step Brothers, or any of his “everyone loves” movies. Stranger Than Fiction, however, was amazing and I wish he would do more roles like that.

Tom Cruise is my other one. I find his acting very bland and unappealing. Mission Impossible has put me to sleep every time I try to watch it. I am not a big fan of Top Gun, Jerry Maguire, or any of them. My Cruise exceptions are Tropic Thunder which I wish he did more comedic roles like that and Minority Report, not a perfect movie but it was the very first DVD I ever owned so there is a bit of nostalgia tied to it.

[–] dil@lemmy.zip 1 points 4 hours ago

I agree tom cruise makes me sleepy, I did love edge of tomorrow, but id fall asleep to it a lot lol

[–] flop_leash_973@lemmy.world 5 points 5 hours ago (3 children)

Justin Long. I can't stand him for some reason. There are only 2 exceptions:

  1. Idiocracy - because that movie is so great otherwise and he is only in it for like 2 minutes.
  2. Tusk - Because the whole movie is about someone torturing him.
[–] kieron115@startrek.website 2 points 2 hours ago

"Well, don't want to sound like a dick or nothin', but, ah... it says on your chart that you're fucked up."

[–] princeofspace@lemmy.world 2 points 3 hours ago

Have you seen Barbarian? I think it’ll make the exception list.

[–] stringere@sh.itjust.works 1 points 4 hours ago (1 children)

Tusk was a brutal watch with a real dick (or vagina) punch ending. Great movie that leaves you feeling somewhat soiled for having watched it.

[–] ghost_towels@sh.itjust.works 7 points 6 hours ago (4 children)

I absolutely agree with you about Stranger Than Fiction. Mine would be Adam Sandler, do not like that style of comedy. The only exception is Punch Drunk Love. One of my favourite movies! Also Jim Carey, except for Yes Men.

[–] stringere@sh.itjust.works 4 points 4 hours ago (1 children)

I loved Jim Carey in The Majestic, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, and Truman Show.

[–] nshibj@lemmy.world 1 points 1 hour ago

What about "I love you Philip Morris?" definitely worth watching

[–] dil@lemmy.zip 2 points 4 hours ago

I lowkey hate adam sandlers comedy but I can't turn away, my roommate was watching little nicky and I watched the whole thing lol, I was like damn this is so stupid but I was technically entertained
