I went to an alligator themed tourist attraction in Florida years ago where a man would hover his hand inside an alligator’s mouth - he claimed that if you don’t touch their palate, the alligator’s bite reflex will not be triggered.

Now this man had about 4 fingers on both of his hands combined, so take from that what you will…

That sounds like someone with personal empirical evidence

This also has the side effect of sending the targeted reptile to horny jail

That's a great way to lose an arm...

If it bites your arm you just bonk it with your other arm and repeat the cycle until it's tuckered out.

they work like those trash bin lids, push it until it clicks and it unlatches to swing open, then push it down again and it clicks closed

It will release whatever it holds, and grab your arm instead!

Tap it or punch it? I mean there’s a difference in both movements and intensity.

I feel like in the moment, one would want to overdo it rather then underdo it. Particularly if the thing in its mouth is your other arm or leg.

I mean that would be my instinct but what if they have like a pressure point there that requires a specific amount of force that happened to be approximately the same as a light tap?

the illustration has a closed fist so I think a hearty thwak! is called for.

I reckon a .45 between the eyes would work as well.

Good to know.
