Welcome to c/news! Please read the Hexbear Code of Conduct and remember... we're all comrades here.

Rules:

-- PLEASE KEEP POST TITLES INFORMATIVE --

-- Overly editorialized titles, particularly if they link to opinion pieces, may get your post removed. --

-- All posts must include a link to their source. Screenshots are fine IF you include the link in the post body. --

-- If you are citing a twitter post as news please include not just the twitter.com in your links but also nitter.net (or another Nitter instance). There is also a Firefox extension that can redirect Twitter links to a Nitter instance: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/libredirect/ or archive them as you would any other reactionary source using e.g. https://archive.today/ . Twitter screenshots still need to be sourced or they will be removed --

-- Mass tagging comm moderators across multiple posts like a broken markov chain bot will result in a comm ban--

-- Repeated consecutive posting of reactionary sources, fake news, misleading / outdated news, false alarms over ghoul deaths, and/or shitposts will result in a comm ban.--

-- Neglecting to use content warnings or NSFW when dealing with disturbing content will be removed until in compliance. Users who are consecutively reported due to failing to use content warnings or NSFW tags when commenting on or posting disturbing content will result in the user being banned. --

-- Using April 1st as an excuse to post fake headlines, like the resurrection of Kissinger while he is still fortunately dead, will result in the poster being thrown in the gamer gulag and be sentenced to play and beat trashy mobile games like 'Raid: Shadow Legends' in order to be rehabilitated back into general society. --

Yeah sure okay. Wake me up when it actually happens.

[–] OldSoulHippie@hexbear.net 13 points 1 month ago (1 children)

If anyone was actually going to do it, it would be trump.

[–] Rom@hexbear.net 19 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

Oh yeah it's certainly possible that he actually will, but on the other hand he just kind of says shit sometimes to see how people will react. Anyway as a general rule I don't pay attention to what politicians promise, only to what they actually do.

I think it's that he's willing to do just about anything right now to divert attention from the Epstein stuff, but hey, a win's a win.

[–] SorosFootSoldier@hexbear.net 44 points 1 month ago

Yeah, I will take the W. But it's just silly how Biden had 4 years to do this at any point he wanted and Trump does it 8 months in to take heat of his pedophilia.

[–] dastanktal@hexbear.net 38 points 1 month ago

Think if we make enough noise about Epstein we can make him give us recreational weed federally too?

This is what Justin Trudeau did in Canada to distract from the other broken promises he made. Seems like something was learned about this being a good distraction.

[–] OldSoulHippie@hexbear.net 22 points 1 month ago (1 children)

There's really no downside though. Getting arrested for a plant that's legal on the other side of an imaginary line is ridiculous and it ruins people's lives and families.

I think Biden spoke of this the same way. I wouldn’t give Trump any credit here at all because saying something doesn’t mean anything is happening

[–] SorosFootSoldier@hexbear.net 20 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Yeah we'll see if it happens, but I will say I can see him doing it.

[–] FloridaBoi@hexbear.net 21 points 1 month ago (1 children)

People thought the same about Biden to lock in the vote last year but they didn’t. Maybe this will move faster because there isn’t a strong FDA or CDC to stop them from reclassification, only DEA and police unions would whine.

This just comes across as jingly keys

[–] OldSoulHippie@hexbear.net 9 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (1 children)

That was wish casting. Kamala was the pothead sheepdog with her "I used to buy weed from snoop dogg" stuff and Biden was still calling it a gateway drug in 2019

Just dem voters projecting their values onto their politicians who couldn't give a rats ass what we think

[–] FloridaBoi@hexbear.net 9 points 1 month ago (2 children)

In 2024 Biden announced the move to reclassify to schedule III but it simply never happened. My response is more about how this is a distraction and meaningless unless actual movement to reclassification occurs.

PAY NO ATTENTION TO THE MAN BEHIND THE CURTAIN

Ain't gonna happen.

[–] SorosFootSoldier@hexbear.net 21 points 1 month ago (1 children)

It would be nice though, oh also expunge felony convictions for marijuana offenses.

[–] Feinsteins_Ghost@hexbear.net 10 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

Absolutely. It would be an actually big deal to reclassify it. And of course, everyone with any sort of conviction period, misdemeanor or felony should be expunged. It sickens me to think of all the humans rotting away in jail because of the electric lettuce.

But it isn't gonna happen. For the same reasons it was schedule 1'd to begin with. It's illegality is a tool to destroy families, lives, and more. It's too important a tool for those who would keep us under their thumbs to let go of. It's the same reason Democrats didn't do anything but wave it in our collective faces. That's my opinion on it anyway.

Barron gave him a hit from his weed pen

[–] SorosFootSoldier@hexbear.net 29 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (1 children)

"Slonkin' it" folks, can you believe it? That's what the kids are calling it, Barron, my beautiful boy, he let's me hit his vape and wow, all I can say is wow, I'm high as a kite, like, frankly, no one has ever seen! trump-anguish

[–] corgiwithalaptop@hexbear.net 9 points 1 month ago

There's this man, Penjamin, my son talks about him, I'm starting to hear it more and more. He does many good things, folks. Lots of people are saying.

[–] Rom@hexbear.net 20 points 1 month ago (1 children)

trump-anguish I'm putting a McDonald's in the White House too

[–] BelieveRevolt@hexbear.net 16 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Too bad he's brand loyal to the garbage he eats, White Castle would be more appropriate.

definitely NOT related to the epstein story, which totally isn't important and didn't happen

[–] SexUnderSocialism@hexbear.net 32 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

"At least no one will be talking about my connection to Epstein when they're too stoned to care." trump-feed

"Hey guys, remember when Trump gave us legal weed, and it didn't stop us talking about the Epstein files while we were high as a kite?" classic

[–] dkr567@hexbear.net 29 points 1 month ago

If this isn't an obvious attempt at divert away from epstein, I don't know what is anymore.

[–] CommunistBear@hexbear.net 28 points 1 month ago (1 children)

If Trump gives us legal weed I'm gonna laugh so fucking hard

anakin-padme-2 to a lower schedule right?

[–] Feinsteins_Ghost@hexbear.net 42 points 1 month ago (1 children)

It's already classed as high as it can be classed currently.

[–] blobjim@hexbear.net 21 points 1 month ago (1 children)

They'll do it once they can find a way to make it only apply to middle-class conservative white guys.

[–] john_brown@hexbear.net 24 points 1 month ago

the reason they haven't done it is the enforcement already works that way

[–] redchert@lemmygrad.ml 20 points 1 month ago (2 children)

He's doing for the California 40 something washed up stoner male podcaster crowd who believe free energy was stored in the library of alexandria.

He's setting the cops loose to beat the crap out of everyone but at least they won't be able to use smelling like Joe Rogan's recording studio as a justification.

[–] Maeve@kbin.earth 18 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Didn't he say this either before or during his last term?

[–] goferking0@lemmy.sdf.org 17 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Shit. If he does that the dems will fight to undo this

[–] tricerotops@hexbear.net 15 points 1 month ago

the one thing they'll actually follow through on

[–] CrawlMarks@hexbear.net 17 points 1 month ago (5 children)

I think it is TDS to say he is doing this to try to distract from the files stuff. It just seems so out of character for him to care enough about it

...to worse than heroin and space coke combined.

[–] Des@hexbear.net 14 points 1 month ago (1 children)

closing the hemp/thc-a loophole keeps getting delayed. it's like two speeding trains coming at each other.

might just end up seeing the mail delivery hemp companies absorbed into some larger structure, likely with the huge megacorps that deal with dispensaries.
