Oh no, I'm the idiot here πŸ™ˆ

[–] garbagebagel@lemmy.world 4 points 13 hours ago

This is a cute lil mistake. I genuinely thought you were just shitposting til I saw this comment.

Yes you are, but it also shows a problem with the AI. A human knows what you meant and how it happened. An AI that lives up to even half of the hype would also consider the context and be able to guess what you meant.

[–] Not_mikey@lemmy.dbzer0.com 11 points 21 hours ago

Human here, and didn't know what the post was about. Had the same thought process as the ai and couldn't understand the gotcha.

Out of curiosity, just tried it in Bing.

Bing gets it right and corrects you.

It's alright, I believed in you and just figured I didn't know what you meant until I saw this. I was thinking, hmm maybe they are types of planes, or Linux distributions, or a star trek reference I haven't seen. If yellowdog was my first Linux distro, I see no reason that Sea Eagle or Bold couldn't exist, haha

I fear, thatβ€˜s on you buddy. The bird ypu meant wasnβ€˜t bold but bald eagle.

[–] Kolanaki@pawb.social 39 points 1 day ago

"Bald is defined as lacking hair on your head, while a sea eagle is a type of avian creature."

[–] CookieOfFortune@lemmy.world 1 points 17 hours ago

Seems like the text description strips some markdown. It says the β€œbold” is in bold font but it’s not.

This is so fucking funny dude...

[–] over_clox@lemmy.world 12 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Incorrect, what we commonly call fonts are actually typefaces..

https://www.wix.com/wixel/resources/typefaces-vs-fonts

Now what's the bird got to do with anything?

[–] PotatoesFall@discuss.tchncs.de 19 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

The AI is correct according to that definition.

But the way I see it, if everybody calls it a font, then it's a font.

[–] over_clox@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago (3 children)

Never worked with a typewriter or printing press I see.

The experts defined the terminology, it's just you purely digital people that forgot the original terminology.

[–] Darth_Lemmy@lemmy.zip 3 points 10 hours ago (1 children)

how TF are you on lemmy with a typewriter?!?!?!?!

Language works by majority consent though.

There's actually a history to the change in terminology, and it's mostly because of Steve Jobs and the Apple Macintosh.

They were largely focused on bringing many character styles over to their new-at-the-time system, and apparently thought it would save pixel space on their limited size 512 pixel wide menu if they just called 'Typeface' as simply 'Font'

And so it came to be, and it stuck.

No, please, do go on mocking the hallucination machine, I beg you, don't give it what it wants, don't believe its lies.
