Iran and Israel have struck each other many times over the last few days. There has been a general focus on military facilities and headquarters by both sides, though Israel has also struck oil facilities, civilian structures and hospitals, and in return for this, Iran has struck major scientific centers and the Haifa oil facilities.

Israel appears to have three main aims. First, to collapse the Iranian state, either through shock and breakdown by killing enough senior officials, or via some sort of internal military coup. Second, to try and destroy Iranian nuclear sites and underground missile cities, or at least to paralyze them long enough to achieve the first and third goals. And third, to bring the US into a direct conflict with Iran. This is because the US better equipped to fight them than Israel is (though victory would still not be guaranteed depending on what Iran chooses to do).

Iranian nuclear facilities are hidden deep underground (800 meters), far beyond the depth range of even the most powerful bunker busters (~70 meters or so), and built such that the visible ground entrances are horizontally far away in an unknown direction from the actual underground chambers. Only an extremely competent full-scale American bombing force all simultaneously using multiple of the most powerful conventional (perhaps even nuclear) bunker busters could even hypothetically hope to breach them (and we have seen how, in practice, American bunker busters have largely failed to impair or deter Ansarallah). There are several analysts on both sides who have concluded that it is entirely impossible to physically prevent Iran from building nukes.

I fully expect the US to join the war. I believe the current ambiguity is a deliberate invention of the US while they work to move their military assets into position, and as soon as they are ready, the US will start bombing Iran. After that, Iran's leadership must - if they haven't already - harden their hearts, and strike back with no fear, or risk following the path of Libya, Syria, and Iraq, either into either surrender, occupation, or annihilation. Every day where they do not possess a nuke is a day where lives are being lost and cities are being bombed.

Alright I think I'm up to speed.

Armchair general assessment: If Iran has the capability it should preemptive strike every single base that is to be a staging post. By this I mean every single base that the tankers fly to.

The runways should be hit at all of these bases, the exterior bays where the tankers may be kept on the ground should also be hit. 30 missiles, every single base.

Runways should continue to be hit every few hours thereafter.

The US military is an air force. It is entirely reliant on its ability to conduct air operations. Cut off this ability and you buy yourself time.

Every runway in Israel capable of landing any large military cargo plane should be disabled. This will disable all ability for the US to resupply air defences to Israel itself.

Once establishing this, the aircraft carriers become the only available means of delivering anything. This means B-2 bombers can not be used, as they can not be launched from a carrier and will need to fly long range with air-to-air refuelling that also can not be launched from a carrier. Carriers will also be forced to come closer to Iran, this makes them vulnerable.

Strait of Hormuz should be left open, with the threat to all local powers that anyone allowing the US to use their infrastructure for military purposes will cause it to be closed. The Strait should be mined and sealed if any of them do allow the US to use their runways, and those runways should also be hit.

Iran has the missile launching capacity for barrages of at least 200 missiles at a time. They are capable of this if they operate at the capacity they have demonstrated.

NBC Reports that Israeli Defenses are Rapidly Becoming Depleted

NBC News reports that only 65% of Iranian missiles were intercepted by Israel’s Iron Dome in the past 24 hours — a sharp drop from nearly 90% the day before, according to a senior Israeli intelligence source.

The official, still receiving government briefings, noted Iran’s newer, faster missiles are cutting Israel’s response time in half, from 10–11 minutes down to just 6–7. These missiles are also more precise, with advanced guidance systems.

Despite Israeli claims of success, the official admitted Iran retains large missile stockpiles and the capability for sustained strikes, warning against underestimating Tehran’s “strategic patience” and resolve.

Talk of Iran’s collapse is premature, the source said: “They have both the will and the means to continue.”

Unclear if this is accurate (found on Twitter so take with grain of salt), but interesting to see Iran's strategy of draining interceptor missiles laid out like this.

OIL FUTURES EXTEND LOSSES, U.S. CRUDE DOWN BY $3 AND BRENT CRUDE DOWN BY $2 A BARREL AS IRAN SEEKS TALKS WITH U.S. AND ISRAEL TO END HOSTILITIES

It would seem like there is an attempt in the western block to create a narrative that the Iranians are attempting to deescalate. This runs counter to other sources I've seen that are more Iranian aligned unless anyone else out here has some decent sources backing up the above claims. My best guess is US is looking for an off ramp since the current violence is causing too much uncontrollable instability for the entity or they're providing cover for the Nimitz and other assets in order to surprise Iran like they did last week. At this point I'm actually pretty optimistic that the turn of events over the weekend were not within US calculations and now they're scrambling to adjust, hopefully with more severe consequences down the line.

‘They just see you as an Arab’: Israel’s Palestinian citizens given cursory protection from attack

“The Israeli government, since the creation of the state, didn’t invest in one public shelter for the Arab part of society,” Tamra’s mayor, Mussa Abu Rumi, said. The reinforced “safe rooms” in new-build houses are an inferior alternative, as the fate of the Khatibs showed, and Abu Rumi said only 40% of Tamra residents even have those.

“I am from here. I belong to this place and I will die here,” Azmeh said. The brothers also declared themselves fully behind the war against Iran, a country they described as a wellhead of terrorism.

It was only afterwards, when the tape recorder was off, that another neighbour came forward to vent his anger, which he claimed was shared by all of Tamra, at a video that had circulated since last night.

It was filmed from a nearby Jewish town, and showed missiles and Israeli interceptors streaking across the black sky, but when a missile falls short and slams into Tamra, you can hear people around the camera rejoicing.

“To the village! To the village!” one man cries, and then several women’s voices join in, someone starts clapping and together they sing a verse that has become a Jewish extremist anthem. It consists of one line: “May your village burn” sung over and over again.

switching allegiance to appease the Israelis will not stop them from coming for you next, Azmeh. they only need one NAS Daily for their branding

The Guardian

Iran has threatened to attack shipments of military aid to Israel.

“We warn that sending any military or radar equipment by boat or aircraft from any country to assist the Zionist regime will be considered participation in the aggression against Islamic Iran and will be a legitimate target for the armed forces,” a spokesman said in a video statement broadcast on state TV on Saturday, Agence France-Presse reports.

El País: In a surprising maneouver, the Spanish government rejects the NATO amendment to rise military expenditure to 5% of GDP (article in Spanish). As of the time of the publishing of this article, it's the only government that openly opposed this amendment, claiming that fixing the expenditure to a percentage of GDP is "unreasonable", and that fixing the military capability objectives first and then allocating the funds is "counterproductive".

The Spanish Prime Minister, Pedro Sánchez, proposes instead to either make a "more flexible formula" that allows to opt out of the 5%, or to allow for a mechanism allowing Spain to reject this 5%. The prime minister reminded Rutte that deciding over the defense budget is each country's own ddecision.

In my opinion, this is a very rare socdem W, probably tied to try and divert progressives in Spain from the corruption scandal unveiled last week affecting some of the closest members of PSOE to Pedro Sánchez. I want to believe that Sánchez is an infiltrated Xi agent, which would explain his massively intelligent maneouvers to not only overcome previous political problems within the PSOE and accusations from the right wing in the country, but to actually come out reinforced (I beg everyone to read the "letter from Pedro Sánchez to the Spaniards" in which he proclaims to be deeply in love with his wife, and the effects it had on public opinion towards the most handsome European president).

Additionally, and more seriously, the PSOE government hinges on a multi-party coalition with parties such as Sumar, Podemos or Bildu, further left than the PSOE, which are more reluctant to accepting the military budgets, and whose few seats are important to maintain stability in the government. Serious disappointment (not surprise though) at Esquerra Republicana de Catalunya and their most popular face Gabriel Rufián for adhering to military budget increases using phrases such as "leftism also means order".

Al Jazeera

Iran used ‘undetectable’ missile in strike on Israeli intelligence site

Iran’s Defence Ministry says it used a new, undetectable missile in striking an Israeli intelligence facility, claiming the attack penetrated multiple layers of air defences. “In today’s attack, we deployed missiles that could not be tracked or intercepted,” said Brigadier General Reza Talaei-Nik, the ministry’s spokesperson, according to Iranian state news agency IRNA. He described the operation as a surprise for Israelis, warning that they will witness more.

Earlier today, Iran said its missile attacks hit a military intelligence centre and a Mossad operations planning centre. Talaei-Nik added that Israel is not prepared for prolonged conflict. “The Zionist regime cannot withstand a long war,” he said, adding that Iran’s military has been equipped with advanced systems – some of which “have not yet even been deployed”.

What's going on? Do you think they have "undetectable missiles" and what could the unused "advanced systems" be?

On the trucks that were outside Fordow in the days prior. It looks like this was an excavation and material/soil transportation effort to fill the entrances and exits with soil in anticipation of a US strike, to try prevent them from collapsing and entombing Fordow. (The US did this kind of attack with cruise missiles at the two other sites, Natanz and Isfahan, and they said that two GBU-57 MOPs were dropped on Natanz as well, no images of that yet though). The trucks outside of Fordow are dump trucks with empty open box cargo beds/tippers, likely after offloading soil/earth to fill up the entrance and exits. The problem is, that at Fordow, the US didn't even bother to attack the entrances and exits, they dropped at least six bombs, with some sources stating up to twelve, directly at where the cascade and enrichment facilities were located.

GUESS WHO'S GOING TO THE HOSPITAL AGAIN?

Bolsonaro's tests indicate viral pneumonia, says doctor. The former president underwent a series of tests in Brasilia on Saturday (21), after canceling his schedule in recent days due to feeling unwell. After falling ill during an agenda in Goiás, former president Jair Bolsonaro (Liberal Party) underwent laboratory and imaging tests on Saturday morning (21) at the DF Star hospital in Brasília. According to doctor Cláudio Birolini, who is accompanying the ex-president, the results indicated a case of viral pneumonia.

Birolini said that Bolsonaro had been coughing since last week. Today, he underwent a CT scan of his chest and abdomen, after also feeling sick to his stomach. "He probably had viral pneumonia, he was coughing a lot last week. We're going to give him a few days of antibiotics," said Birolini at a press conference on Saturday.
