Welcome to the News community!

Rules:

1. Be civil

Attack the argument, not the person. No racism/sexism/bigotry. Good faith argumentation only. This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban. Do not respond to rule-breaking content; report it and move on.

2. All posts should contain a source (url) that is as reliable and unbiased as possible and must only contain one link.

Obvious biased sources will be removed at the mods’ discretion. Supporting links can be added in comments or posted separately but not to the post body. Sources may be checked for reliability using Wikipedia, MBFC, AdFontes, GroundNews, etc.

3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.

Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.

4. Post titles should be the same as the article used as source. Clickbait titles may be removed.

Posts which titles don’t match the source may be removed. If the site changed their headline, we may ask you to update the post title. Clickbait titles use hyperbolic language and do not accurately describe the article content. When necessary, post titles may be edited, clearly marked with [brackets], but may never be used to editorialize or comment on the content.

5. Only recent news is allowed.

Posts must be news from the most recent 30 days.

6. All posts must be news articles.

No opinion pieces, Listicles, editorials, videos, blogs, press releases, or celebrity gossip will be allowed. All posts will be judged on a case-by-case basis. Mods may use discretion to pre-approve videos or press releases from highly credible sources that provide unique, newsworthy content not available or possible in another format.

7. No duplicate posts.

If an article has already been posted, it will be removed. Different articles reporting on the same subject are permitted. If the post that matches your post is very old, we refer you to rule 5.

8. Misinformation is prohibited.

Misinformation / propaganda is strictly prohibited. Any comment or post containing or linking to misinformation will be removed. If you feel that your post has been removed in error, credible sources must be provided.

9. No link shorteners or news aggregators.

All posts must link to original article sources. You may include archival links in the post description. News aggregators such as Yahoo, Google, Hacker News, etc. should be avoided in favor of the original source link. Newswire services such as AP, Reuters, or AFP, are frequently republished and may be shared from other credible sources.

10. Don't copy entire article in your post body

For copyright reasons, you are not allowed to copy an entire article into your post body. This is an instance wide rule, that is strictly enforced in this community.

Uh oh, after a democrat is disappointed they might gasp consider a sternly worded letter.

How can fascism survive such robust resistance?!

[–] tal@lemmy.today 17 points 10 months ago (3 children)

What do you want Whitmer to do?

[–] TheTetrapod@lemmy.world 27 points 10 months ago (1 children)

Call Trump an illegitimate fascist cretin in a press release, for a start.

Execution followed by full pardon.

[–] WizardofFrobozz@lemmy.ca 5 points 10 months ago

America is so boned.

[–] Sho@lemmy.world 9 points 10 months ago (1 children)

Finger wags, finger wags for all!!!!

[–] bampop@lemmy.world 5 points 10 months ago (1 children)

If things get any worse, there may be some raised eyebrows

[–] Sho@lemmy.world 1 points 10 months ago

Oooooo! That will show them!

[–] 800XL@lemmy.world 68 points 10 months ago (1 children)

A clear message to Trump brand Nazis that they are free to kill his political opponents. Sure they'll have to suffer thru some jailtime, but he'll pardon them.

Hell, Hitler wrote about his struggle there.

[–] A_Union_of_Kobolds@lemmy.world 34 points 10 months ago (1 children)

That's the real fear. Political violence is going to be increasingly common as fascists get bolder.

I'm getting tf out of this country, man

I'm getting tf out of this country, man

I already pulled that trigger and have zero regrets. My life has greatly improved since I left.

[–] admiralpatrick@lemmy.world 5 points 10 months ago (1 children)

I kinda feel like you should provide some tips for the rest of the class.

[–] Witchfire@lemmy.world 3 points 10 months ago* (last edited 10 months ago) (1 children)

Happy to answer any questions. I did it through a work transfer, but getting a visa isn't even the hardest part

[–] Lemminary@lemmy.world 2 points 10 months ago (2 children)

Alright, I'll bite. lol What's the hardest part?

[–] Witchfire@lemmy.world 5 points 10 months ago* (last edited 10 months ago)

The overwhelming amount of physical, emotional, and logistical work involved

Edit: I'll also note that there's a lot of people online who seemingly want to discourage anyone from even trying to get out (see the other response). Ignore them.

[–] skulblaka@sh.itjust.works 4 points 10 months ago

Not OP, but the answer to that is going to be "having a work transfer"

If you don't already work for a company that's willing to relocate you out of country, or don't already have citizenship rights in another country that you can cash in, you're not going anywhere. Not one single place in the world wants American refugees right now, and unless you're a rocket surgeon, you're going to be immigrating illegally if at all.

Best move for regular people right now is likely just getting a travel visa and then quietly overstaying it. Just don't get caught.

[–] A_Union_of_Kobolds@lemmy.world 2 points 10 months ago

Yeah we're starting the process. Ugh it's so fuckin much to do tho. And I half expect the house to sit on the market...

[–] pulsewidth@lemmy.world 61 points 10 months ago (4 children)

'Disappointed' is certainly not the language I'd use in her position. I'd remind Trump that future presidents may follow his lead and pardon his attempted assassins. TACO in no time.

What the hell does it take for US centrist/centre-left politicians to be outraged?

[–] Ensign_Crab@lemmy.world 17 points 10 months ago (1 children)

What the hell does it take for US centrist/centre-left politicians to be outraged?

Saying that neither party should be selling weapons for genocide.

[–] pulsewidth@lemmy.world 2 points 10 months ago (2 children)

I dunno, Bernie has said that and I haven't heard any Democrats outraged at his comments. But I get what you're trying to say.

[–] Enfors@lemm.ee 6 points 10 months ago

That's because they're trying their best to ignore and silence him to death.

[–] wewbull@feddit.uk 1 points 10 months ago (1 children)

Bernie isn't a democrat anymore. He's independent.

[–] pulsewidth@lemmy.world 5 points 10 months ago (2 children)

That doesn't change that Democrats might respond to his comments?

[–] Ensign_Crab@lemmy.world 3 points 10 months ago

Democrats opposed Sanders harder than they have ever opposed trump.

[–] wewbull@feddit.uk 2 points 10 months ago

...but it makes him much easier for them to ignore.

[–] obvs@lemmy.world 10 points 10 months ago

Suggest universal healthcare, universal housing, or universal education(including college/university).

Being a leftist and calling for leftist policy probably

[–] DropThePot@lemy.lol 46 points 10 months ago (1 children)

She should call for the pardon of Thomas Matthew Crooks and Ryan Wesley Routh.

[–] Fuckfuckmyfuckingass@lemmy.world 22 points 10 months ago

Like pardon his head back together?

[–] SabinStargem@lemmy.today 39 points 10 months ago (3 children)

If I were her, I would start preparing the National Guard and networking with other like-minded governors. If Trump is willing to pardon people who wanted to claim her life, then he wanted her dead. That is grounds for war.

IMO, the dissolution of the union has become nearly inevitable. The questions lie in the when, how, and whether good people come out on top. The good guys should set up mutual aid in advance, be it weather reports, treaties with Europe, Rainbow Panther militia, lawyers, or taxation that cuts out the federal government.

Anyone see the movie Devils Advocate with Keanu. It resonates with this administration. Watch it.

[–] FunnyUsername@lemmy.world 7 points 10 months ago (1 children)

this movie is so good. not perfect, but very good. so many great scenes. that marble angel wall is forever stuck in my head.

[–] Kurious84@eviltoast.org 1 points 10 months ago

I know. And how all the evil bastards of the world hang around each other. You can see it in their faces. While I don't see this in real life to me people who support Trump and Putin and those types all have a very certain look on their face.

[–] kryptonianCodeMonkey@lemmy.world 8 points 10 months ago* (last edited 10 months ago) (1 children)

Is he even attempting to make up a justification for it other than "help those who hurt the right people"?

[–] floofloof@lemmy.ca 11 points 10 months ago* (last edited 10 months ago)

I guess you mean he'll pardon them. It does seem to be pure vindictiveness, with no attempt to even dress it up. He just wants anyone he dislikes to fear for their life, and all his supporters and lackeys are on board with this.

[–] wildcardology@lemmy.world 8 points 10 months ago

The pardons are already paid. She can't do anything about it.
