Yeah you aren't missing much, except Star-Trek Voyager.

    [–] Asetru@feddit.org 4 points 5 hours ago

Treason, like beauty, is in the eye of the beholder

I notice you didn't claim to be cis

    come to the dork side

    [–] VitoRobles@lemmy.today 77 points 1 day ago (3 children)

    You will.

    We're a gateway drug.

    [–] kurcatovium@lemm.ee 1 points 8 hours ago (1 children)

I've never watched Star Trek, apart from few episodes of Deep Space 9 (?) quarter century ago. Where should I start now if I'd like to get some understanding of the universe?

    [–] Zwrt@lemmy.sdf.org 1 points 7 hours ago (1 children)

I don't really know but i started with and loved Voyager, i got recommended thats its a big more modern then next generation series.

The events of Voyager and deep space 9 also happen at a same time so i planned to move to ds9 next.

    [–] the_crotch@sh.itjust.works 2 points 5 hours ago* (last edited 5 hours ago) (2 children)

DS9 is waaaay better than voyager. Just the fact that there's no neelix is a huge point in its favor.

    [–] Asetru@feddit.org 2 points 4 hours ago

DS9 is waaaay better than voyager.

That's debatable. Both had their flaws, but I really preferred Voyager's idea of "dang, it's going to take us decades to get home and we're in uncharted territory, so let's explore the hell out of our way back" over DS9's "were sitting at the galaxy's newly discovered traffic junction and our new enemies look like anything, so our major conflict is that anybody could be a traitor and our utopia is turned upside down into a surveillance state".

I heard there where many people that did not like him but after Kes left i actually grew quite fond of him.

    [–] the_crotch@sh.itjust.works 1 points 4 hours ago* (last edited 4 hours ago)

I found him obnoxious, not to mention super abusive to kes. Also, weird choice having him babysit Naomi. "Hey, who should we leave alone with this young girl? How about the grown man who was dating a 2 year old when we met him?"

But wait until you watch DS9, quark is the superior comedy relief character.

i've got to say that life is a lot easier these days as a linux evangelist now that valve is changing gaming in such a monumental way. the memes are real: he really is a saviour.

(and i'm more of a spaceballs guy)

    [–] Landless2029@lemmy.world 13 points 1 day ago

True. Been here a year. Just switched to Linux. Just need to order socks now...

    [–] charonn0@startrek.website 45 points 1 day ago (1 children)

We are Linux. We will add your biological and technological distinctiveness to our own. Your hard drive will be reformatted to service us. Resistance is futile.

    Assimilate this.

    [–] lugal@lemmy.dbzer0.com 32 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Sounds like you're really into femboys or other queer stuff. How many blΓ₯hajs do you have?

    [–] db2@lemmy.world 35 points 1 day ago
    [–] bitwolf@sh.itjust.works 9 points 1 day ago (2 children)

You know. I did just finish "The Expanse" and considering it's at risk of not continuing maybe I should start Star Trek

    [–] Hupf@feddit.org 2 points 23 hours ago

Missed "maybe I should start 'reck"

    [–] raltoid@lemmy.world 10 points 1 day ago (1 children)

    at risk of not continuing

Clarifiction: It was canceled over two years ago. They finished it as a 12 part comic book series, that released the last issue a year ago.

Although it's important to note that if you don't find the first season of TNG engaging, skip to season three and then go back later. (Many people recommend going straight to season three after the double episode opening in the first)

Clarification: The 9 book series is complete and much better than the show. There are also 9 novellas to fill in the blanks like Amos's childhood. So fucking good.

I've never heard of this comic book you speak of.

There is also a TTRPG that is also quite fun and includes a lengthy section on orbital mechanics for the needs.

About 2 months ago I made Linux my main OS. Still have to use windows for a few games, but all my computing is done on kubuntu.

I had a ton of fun messing with different distros and trying out a ton of tools. I won't be going back that's for sure.

    [–] cosmicrookie@lemmy.world 36 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

I've been here so long that I decided to start watching Star Trek. Have started from the original series, gone to the animated series and now watching The Next Generation

    It's inevitable! Resistance is futile

Also I changes to Linux 1 year ago. Linux Mint works fine for me. Even with nvidia GPU

    [–] musubibreakfast@lemm.ee 4 points 1 day ago (2 children)

I really enjoyed the original series, the other stuff just seems daunting to me.

    [–] Glitch@lemmy.dbzer0.com 6 points 1 day ago

Funny, I'm the opposite! Only have the original series left to watch and it feels daunting :p

    [–] cosmicrookie@lemmy.world 4 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

I feel like the original series were painful to get through but fun at the same time.

    The animated series we're terrible.

The Next generation is actually alright. It gets pretty good a few seasons in.

    [–] FlexibleToast@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

If by animated series you mean Lower Decks, you better take that back.

    [–] cosmicrookie@lemmy.world 4 points 1 day ago* (last edited 13 hours ago) (1 children)

Oh no. I have not reached that far in yet. Still only at TNG. The animated series is this one

    https://m.imdb.com/title/tt0069637/

    [–] FlexibleToast@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago

Oh... Yeah I wouldn't expect those would be good. Honestly I started at TNG.

I did those BEFORE I got on lemmy! Star trek was the gateway to needing tech separate from corporations.

    [–] homesweethomeMrL@lemmy.world 14 points 1 day ago (2 children)
    [–] jballs@sh.itjust.works 18 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Yeah it went by faster than expected

    [–] toy_boat_toy_boat@lemmy.world 9 points 1 day ago (1 children)

holy shit, you're right! i joined two years ago, minus a week or two

    [–] jballs@sh.itjust.works 10 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I feel like we should have a 2 year anniversary party for all the people that came over during the API fiasco.

    [–] sirico@feddit.uk 3 points 1 day ago (3 children)

Getting on for 2 myself so the early guys are def years

    [–] jimmux@programming.dev 2 points 1 day ago

Well shit, I just found an approval email from exactly two years ago... and that's not even my oldest account.

My immediate search result says it was May 2019, so I guess so.

    [–] jballs@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 day ago

I checked and was 1 year 11 months, so close enough for meme accuracy.

    [–] dragnucs@lemmy.ml 8 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Star Trek is surely a big community, bit it still is a single community. However, for GNI/Linux, we are all around the place here.

    I have friends everywhere

    [–] MITM0@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 hour ago) (1 children)

I read the Xeelee Sequence If that counts for anything

    [–] Klear@lemmy.world 1 points 7 hours ago

    It means you're a NEEEERD!!

    Speaking from experience.

    There are dozens of you.

    [–] Korkki@lemmy.ml 3 points 1 day ago (2 children)

I don't watch star trek and I only use linux on my home server

    [–] cRazi_man@lemm.ee 8 points 1 day ago

You're in the picture. You are seen.

    [–] FlexibleToast@lemmy.world 5 points 1 day ago

That's the best place to use Linux.

You should be doing both of those things ASAP.
