WTF is this shit, the Israeli economy is not some behemoth or uber-profitable fulcrum of global capital, it's a fuckin glorified aircraft carrier for the United States

Of what possible benefit to Vietnam could possibly be acquired by sending skilled labor to be racially abused and overworked in a warzone?

This is corruption and a national embarrassment for Vietnam

[–] T34_69@hexbear.net 18 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I don't know much about Vietnam's politics but this makes me wonder, maybe it's an indication that the comprador elements were never purged after reunification but were left in power in some key areas, kind of like West Germany?

Its more like they went much farther with economic "liberalization" than Deng and reintroduced a westbrained element into their society. Also weirdly liking americans too much, due to the historic sino-vietnamese enmity.

I think Vietnam could seek to align with the US security state. There are rumours that Vietnam wants to buy F-16V block 70 fighter aircraft. More support of Israel, and potentially buying military equipment from Israel, could be part of that.

Vietnam - Israel close relations have been a thing for quite a while and its not a result of any reorientations. If anything politicaly the CPV has only seen its more pro-China wings strengthen and consolidate in a position of dominance in the last couple of years, braindead pro-US feelings among the population aside

Trying to buy F-16s in a region where Western equipment has just been loudly spunked down the shitter by cheaper and superior Chinese alternatives is the weirdest hill for Vietnam's dignity to die on.

The F-16s Vietnam want to buy will be the most advanced version, and not the cold war era ones Ukraine and Argentina got. The rumour is that the warranty has expired on Vietnamese Su-30s, and that Sukhoi want payment upfront to carry out necessary maintenance. The F-16Vs would be an upgrade on the Su-30MKIs in a few ways, namely the AESA radar and AIM-120 long range air to air missiles. India is working to domestically upgrade their Su-30s with these capabilities. India also lost an Su-30MKI and MiG-29K to Pakistan, so it's not like Russian equipment faired any better than the French Rafale. While the Chinese J-10CE is roughly equivalent or better than the latest F-16V and cheaper (so all round a better offer), Vietnam might not want to buy Chinese military equipment, their last war was against China after all. So if the threat is perceived to be China, Chinese equipment does not address it. Given this context, the only other offer that would be competitive with the F-16V offer would be a custom Gripen C offer, with some of the capabilities of the E model. Saab Gripen E, Eurofighter Typhoon and Dassault Rafale are all too expensive for the capabilities they offer as 4.5 gens.

Shit like this is so depressing. I understand AES states to some degree have to work within the current western hegemony to survive and build capabilities but I feel working with Israel is crossing a line.

China’s stance with them frustrates me even more since they’re even more well positioned to refuse.

It's tough, but I almost think China condemning it would trigger so many brain worms that suddenly Palestine would be considered even more of an enemy, and proof that Israel is the good guy.

At least China always continues good relations with Iran.

Surely those skilled workers would be better suited to building the productive capacity of Vietnam? All they can do in Israel is send back remittances, and since labor is the superior of capital that means Vietnam is getting the worse end of the deal.

Were they threatened? What even is this?

[–] GnastyGnuts@hexbear.net 29 points 2 days ago

Losing respect for Vietnam every time I see them do business with israel.

So this is how it ends? With almost every state valuing Israel too much to ever oppose their genocide in any meaningful way? They're just going to keep backing them until they slowly grind Palestinians down to nothing, and then shrug their shoulders going "What's a Palestine?"

Is Israel the fucking lynchpin or load bearer to the world economy or something? Come the fuck on. Are they really that important?

I swear if Israel actually starts rapidly collapsing every state that can barely manage the bare minimum for Palestinians will give Israel everything they have, crippling their own economies even, just to keep Israel afloat. That's what I expect now.

[–] ClimateStalin@hexbear.net 37 points 2 days ago (1 children)

It’s baffling. It’s not like Israel is like, the sole supplier of something important. Literally the only thing of value they produce is weapons and they’re far from the only game in town.

Like, how fucking hard is it to just not do trade with them? What the fuck are you getting out of this? If Russia was doing what Israel is doing I’d understand. “Yeah it’s bad but we need Russian oil or Europe freezes to death.” But Israel doesn’t offer anything important!

At this point it’s hard to think that it’s anything other than either large scale blackmail of foreign politicians is just threatening other countries with nuclear weapons. I genuinely don’t know what else could be happening.

That gets me the most. What the fuck do you even get from them that you can't get anywhere else?

Hell they don't even have good media. Their entertainment comes solely from watching Palestinian children suffer and die. Outside of that, all they have is Raid: Shadow Legends (which is garbage). But that's literally it!

I know I'm not saying anything new but it's probably just that the Zionist Entity is a proxy for the US, so making any "aggressive" measures against it would be like making them against the US. These countries probably want or need to avoid that at the moment.

But I completely agree that it is beyond disappointing to see for a genocide.

[–] Guamer@hexbear.net 15 points 2 days ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

Another contributing factor, especially in the US government, is that many of the entity's supporters are evangelical doomsday cultists that believe it's existence will bring about the apocalypse and the return of Jeebus or whatever.

[–] MaoTheLawn@hexbear.net 19 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Wow. Raid is Israeli. As if they could get any worse.

[–] Sinisterium@hexbear.net 7 points 1 day ago

Its funny when the things I hate turn out to be morally bankrupt as well.

[–] corvidenjoyer@hexbear.net 31 points 2 days ago

I still don't understand what Israel has over Vietnam in particular? They can't be that desperate if even cuba isn't like this.

Vietnam really wanting to get brain drained, its workers being racially insulted and discriminated AND collaborating in settler colonial genocide? Bruh

hope the skilled workers are saboteurs

[–] D61@hexbear.net 12 points 1 day ago

Israeli: Vietnam, we need your workers.

My wishful thinking about Vietnam: Sorry Israel, its a "Viet-nah", from us.

[–] MaoTheLawn@hexbear.net 19 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

Weird. I guess they'll be cheap labourers for the building projects in the newly stolen Israeli territories.
