I didn’t imply there were homeless in Cuba? I also made it pretty clear I felt the US blockade is the cause of the drop in living standards there so not sure why you’re telling me to shut up?
Cuban Minister for Labor and Social Security Marta Elena Feitó Cabrera was forced to resign after she suggested there were no beggars on the island. Her remarks were met with immediate and widespread condemnation on social media across the political spectrum.
A few years ago, Cubans were not accustomed to seeing people beg for money, but as living conditions have fallen in recent years and the social safety net has thinned, begging has become far more widespread.
Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel publicly criticized the minister. Within hours, Feitó resigned.
Yeah even if it’s caused by the cruel US blockade you can’t just deny material reality and not expect pushback from those experiencing hardship. You need to communicate you understand the issues they’re facing and have a plan to fix them. Glad to see Diaz-Canel publicly criticizing the statement.
I know they’ve been installing a lot of solar panels and related infrastructure (courtesy of China) to improve the energy situation. Hopefully the BRICS partner membership will start to yield some benefits that help them restore higher living conditions.
I have seen it but felt like it was watchable without knowing the show which was a good way to write it!
Young Americans (40 percent) are also more willing to justify violence against the rich.
Small amount of hope for the future though.
Great to see, wish the article had a bit more details on their plan to transition to universal public healthcare. Seems like they’re doing it slowly but that’s definitely better than nothing.
I think it’s more that people know the status quo isn’t working so they want some kind of change.
Unfortunately because there’s been so much propaganda in the imperial core and periphery against anything that goes against capitalism in these people tend to go to the far right since it’s the only “allowed” option other than the status quo.
I think the bright side (if there is any) is that once the left reaches a critical mass of support we’ll see a surge in support as people realize it’s the better alternative. The challenge is getting to the level.
Fact based education standards.
Teaching a bunch of lies about American exceptionalism and how imperialism is actually good isn’t what I’d call “fact based”
Stop racism in policing
Right like how democrats in nearly all major cities increased police funding and almost none passed any meaningful reform.
Expanded healthcare subsidies
But don’t remotely consider universal healthcare
Preserve democracy
Preserve the status quo which I wouldn’t call a democracy. A democracy enacts the will of the people, democrats don’t even have a democratic primary for their own party.
Yeah it’s a bit of a head scratcher. Like if he comes back the year after and is close to his same output they have him on a discount then.
But they’re paying him all of this next season just to take that chance. And if he doesn’t recover well there’s more downside.
Feels mostly a sentimental move
Sad it didn’t workout for him in Milwaukee but glad the Bucks and him were both able to move on relatively well!
Commenting in case someone provides reading material later
Having to do my occasional traveling for work and even though it’s my 3rd time since having kids it hasn’t gotten any easier dealing with missing them.
Thankfully we’re able to FaceTime daily but they’re still <1 Year so they don’t understand why I can’t pick them up through the phone 😞
Sorry a little confused between the other reply I got and this one. Did my comment make me come across as not a supporter of Cuba or are you talking more about the idiots that believe Cuba is some oppressive regime?
