Welcome to c/news! Please read the Hexbear Code of Conduct and remember... we're all comrades here.

Rules:

-- PLEASE KEEP POST TITLES INFORMATIVE --

-- Overly editorialized titles, particularly if they link to opinion pieces, may get your post removed. --

-- All posts must include a link to their source. Screenshots are fine IF you include the link in the post body. --

-- If you are citing a twitter post as news please include not just the twitter.com in your links but also nitter.net (or another Nitter instance). There is also a Firefox extension that can redirect Twitter links to a Nitter instance: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/libredirect/ or archive them as you would any other reactionary source using e.g. https://archive.today/ . Twitter screenshots still need to be sourced or they will be removed --

-- Mass tagging comm moderators across multiple posts like a broken markov chain bot will result in a comm ban--

-- Repeated consecutive posting of reactionary sources, fake news, misleading / outdated news, false alarms over ghoul deaths, and/or shitposts will result in a comm ban.--

-- Neglecting to use content warnings or NSFW when dealing with disturbing content will be removed until in compliance. Users who are consecutively reported due to failing to use content warnings or NSFW tags when commenting on or posting disturbing content will result in the user being banned. --

-- Using April 1st as an excuse to post fake headlines, like the resurrection of Kissinger while he is still fortunately dead, will result in the poster being thrown in the gamer gulag and be sentenced to play and beat trashy mobile games like 'Raid: Shadow Legends' in order to be rehabilitated back into general society. --

Raytheon: "wait, why not?"

Can't wait for the day that drones are given an AI that turns the world into the sci-fi horror movie Screamers.

Ukraine is already using some vission "AI" targeting on drones to work around jamming, I'm sure Russia is probably doing the same or plans to if they can get the hardware.

Plus Palestine already is a horror movie, I'm sure Israel is using a lot of "AI" tech

Still waiting on the battlebots style drones with buzzsaw blades flying out of the ground.

"We are the wealthiest nation, perhaps in the history of the world, but even we can't sustain a couple-million-dollar piece of equipment that can be taken out with an $800 drone and munition," he said.

I thought that was the entire fucking point of the world spanning empire. That's why there's poverty, hunger, and homeless that exists in the world - so you could sustain multiple millions on every frivolous last bit of killing people for sport and looting. A trillion dollars can either kill a million Iraqis or, I imagine, house, feed, and dignify every person so far.

Are they so obvious in the US? In Germany they normally just start to invite them to give a few dozen 10 minute presentations and pay them 10,0000 to 50,000€ per presentation.

Russia's about to learn why we don't have healthcare 💪😤 🇺🇸🦅

the humble infantryperson again becomes ascendant. drones are less the new machine gun as the new Pike & Shot. it adds an entire new dimension to infantry power. Instead of an impenetrable wall of pikes and high velocity slugs, you get pocket local air dominance. basically making close air support pointless and heavy vehicles a waste

so this is how we're going to get bionics, partner robots, and like combat exoskeleton suits isnt it?

or... here me out. warfare is going to be tinier and on smaller scales, like tiny microcosms at the squad level of what used to be tactical combat (armor, air, intelligence dominance). like happening between two squads. the drones are going to get smaller and the projectiles more smart

The miniaturization of warfare is upon us.

According to experts, ^[who?]^ World War III will be fought on the head of a pin. ^[citation^ ^needed]^

Bullish for the katana making a comeback

[–] Grapho@lemmy.ml 19 points 1 day ago

That motherfucker Kojima called it again

[–] Hestia@hexbear.net 22 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I'll be jumping into the sky with a sweet pair of robotic legs, slicing drones in two.

I'm going to have a bankai button on my katana that sends out 1,000 mini slicing drones

[–] TheWolfOfSouthEnd@hexbear.net 22 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Best invest in Katana stocks.

[–] Ildsaye@hexbear.net 9 points 1 day ago

Most katanas are made in Longquan, China some-controversy

[–] keepcarrot@hexbear.net 19 points 1 day ago

Damn, someone should stop that drone

[–] freagle@lemmygrad.ml 45 points 1 day ago

Army secretary must be lurking in the leftist lemmyverse if they finally figured this out

[–] FlakesBongler@hexbear.net 35 points 1 day ago

Instead of Minovsky particles, we got drones

I hate the short stick

[–] SpicyLizards@reddthat.com 21 points 1 day ago

A big sad face from the military industrial complex for once... I imagine...

[–] Archangel1313@lemm.ee 24 points 1 day ago (1 children)

We should all go back to swords and shields.

[–] FlakesBongler@hexbear.net 40 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Trial by champion would greatly reduce the number of war deaths

[–] Archangel1313@lemm.ee 34 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Yes. Let the two leaders fight. Leave the rest of us out of it.

[–] TheSpectreOfGay@hexbear.net 44 points 1 day ago

conservatives are so into great man theory, but also won't elect a man who will fight another alone in combat, smh
