Its kind of impressive how someone can say something so stupid that its genuinely difficult to argue against it.

Not because there isn't an argument. It's because it's so out of left field, you somehow ended up with a basketball.

[–] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 12 points 1 day ago

They might as well bring out some Bronzo spokescreature to literally give the finger to the part of his base that actually thought he was going to give them cheap eggs.

Because, what are they going to do about it?

[–] aesthelete@lemmy.world 8 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

But I was told by dumbass "conservatives" that having a phone (or a TV or whatever electronic pos) meant historic levels of wealth and income inequality were A-OK. Surely, those people couldn't have been just lying to me...on the Internet. Who would do such a thing?

[–] Stern@lemmy.world 27 points 1 day ago (1 children)

The largest private employer in the United States is Wal-Mart. I can assure you that cheap prices are 100% part of the American dream.

[–] Azal@pawb.social 12 points 1 day ago

And it's a dream because you have to be asleep to believe it. Walmart loves running anyone else out of town by keeping price slow and the store as unprofitable until no competition is around. Then after that's out they'll raise prices because the fuck you gonna do about it?

Same company that has training for its workers on how to apply for food stamps.

[–] xorollo@leminal.space 29 points 1 day ago

Lmao, so since being rich is the American dream, being poor is unpatriotic and punishable.

[–] Catoblepas@lemmy.blahaj.zone 110 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Oh, they’ll still be just as cheap. You’re just going to pay more for them.

[–] wise_pancake@lemmy.ca 50 points 2 days ago (1 children)

As a Canadian the rampant enshittification of American products is one of the reasons I avoid them now (pre tariffs).

America has many high quality brands, but so often once they beat out competitors they dump the quality and ramp up the prices.

I’ve lost a lot of trust in American goods, and it’s not the workers faults.

[–] P1k1e@lemmy.world 18 points 1 day ago

Oh man I remember in the 90s my dad said the same thing about Chinese products. Then I became an adult and noticed the only American products that actually existed were the plastic covers they put around Chinese metal

[–] Retropunk64@lemmy.ml 76 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Agree to disagree, but they most definitely were a part of his campaign promises.

[–] shittydwarf@lemmy.dbzer0.com 21 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Well that's just what we call pillow talk baby, that's all

[–] Cascio@lemmy.world 7 points 2 days ago

First you want to kill me, then you want to kiss me. Spits out pit Blow!

[–] Not_mikey@lemmy.dbzer0.com 18 points 1 day ago

Cool now that we're not optimizing for the cheapest goods and services possible can we raise the minimum wage

Trump: ....

Pass the pro act and expand unions to raise wages

Trump: .....

Raise working and regulatory standards

Trump: ....

Stop using the cheapest most environmentally harmful energy sources

Trump: ....

[–] GeeDubHayduke@lemmy.dbzer0.com 25 points 1 day ago (1 children)

"It's called the American dream because you have to be asleep to believe it" has never hit harder.

[–] choco_crispies@lemmy.ml 2 points 1 day ago

Asleep/not woke

[–] SoupBrick@pawb.social 33 points 2 days ago (3 children)

This is insane. They could have kept playing MAGA like a fiddle, but he had to open his mouth. The people who believe in trump, that I have interacted with, think that low prices are part of the plan that will happen alongside the racism. I am expecting orange boy to say the secretary didn't actually mean that.

[–] floofloof@lemmy.ca 32 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (1 children)

It just indicates that Trump doesn't care what they think any more. He's no longer trying to please voters. They have done their job and where he's taking the USA, there won't be voters. Besides, he knows they'll always be with him when it comes to hurting people they don't like. Expensive eggs won't change their bigotry.

[–] SoupBrick@pawb.social 6 points 2 days ago (1 children)

But it will disenfranchise all the people who voted for him because "cheaper eggs". Like I was saying, those people thought it was in the plan until the secretary put that out. People are currently suffering because of the cost of living, hearing that quote will be a direct slap in their face after selling their morals for cheaper goods. We still have yet to see the damage/damage control.

[–] floofloof@lemmy.ca 8 points 2 days ago (2 children)

The media will successfully deflect blame away from Trump's government. These people are eager to believe any story except that they've been hoodwinked.

[–] 4am@lemm.ee 6 points 2 days ago

Didn’t Elon already tweet that Joe Biden ordered 150 million chickens to be killed in order to raise egg prices?

These people have the memory of a goldfish, they’ll buy it.

[–] SoupBrick@pawb.social 4 points 2 days ago

I am not really talking about the fanatics. Nothing that happens will sway their faith in their god king.

[–] Blue_Morpho@lemmy.world 13 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Trump never said he would lower prices. Trump has always said higher prices are better. Oceania has always been at war with Eurasia.

[–] SoupBrick@pawb.social 3 points 2 days ago (1 children)
[–] hitmyspot@aussie.zone 2 points 8 hours ago

Yes, it’s a famous quote from 1984, the book. The government keeps changing what they consider the facts to be. It should be required reading.

[–] blattrules@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago

Don’t worry, they’ll just move the goalposts for him when he can’t lower prices and starts saying this too.

[–] DrDeadCrash@programming.dev 10 points 1 day ago

"good pay'" isn't either

[–] ShadyKnight@lemmy.ca 24 points 2 days ago (3 children)

So how are those eggs doing? - a concerned Canadian

[–] bravesilvernest@lemmy.ml 14 points 2 days ago (2 children)

My girls lay them faster than we can eat them, so we give them away for free because fuck charging for food.

[–] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago

We have neighbors that do the same. We've had to re-gift a few or redirect them to other neighbors, because we don't eat very many eggs at all. It's certainly a nice gesture, though.

[–] normanwall@lemmy.world 4 points 1 day ago

Legend.

I can't wait we solve world hunger permanently.

[–] Stovetop@lemmy.world 9 points 2 days ago

About $9/dozen where I am, if there are any even left on the shelf.

I know some other regions of the US are already over $1/egg.

[–] Baguette@lemm.ee 5 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

About 11 dollars usd for 18 eggs in WA for me which is prob around 14 ish CAD

Edit: oops they're actually 18 count which is not a dozen

Egg prices in qfc

[–] ChonkyOwlbear@lemmy.world 17 points 2 days ago (2 children)

And to think, the Boston Tea Party was over the modern equivalent of a $1.40 per pound tax on tea.

[–] cubism_pitta@lemmy.world 10 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

Cost of tea had very little to do with the Boston Tea Party.

After taxes on the tea were applied it was still the cheapest tea had ever been in the colonies

[–] kibiz0r@midwest.social 4 points 2 days ago

Only payable in British currency, not colonial paper money.

[–] 1984@lemmy.today 12 points 1 day ago

American nightmare is more like it.

[–] jjjalljs@ttrpg.network 10 points 2 days ago

Trump voters are some of the stupidest people alive. Just vibes voting that trump will somehow "end inflation" despite there being no evidence that any of his proposed policies would do so. Many of them will suffer as a result of his changes, but as they are unbelievably stupid people, I don't think they will reject conservatism or capitalism. They'll just be conned again.

[–] ATDA@lemmy.world 10 points 2 days ago

Then higher salaries are. What's he doing about that? Nothing. His American dream is using you as a foot rest while you kneel on all fours.

[–] SatansMaggotyCumFart@lemmy.world 8 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

You have to be able to afford the American Dream if you want a piece.

[–] duuuurtymike@lemm.ee 7 points 2 days ago (2 children)

These MAGA people that believe America needs to be building, making, and growing its own products are so hypocritical. They say this as they buy products from all over the world.

[–] FabledAepitaph@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago

Also as their Lord and Savior Elon Musk imports cheap H1B labor in from all over to undercut American employees, lol

[–] Sunshine@lemmy.ca 5 points 2 days ago

Nothing only that but as their leader tries to shutdown the chip act that would have brought over chip manufacturing to Arizona.

[–] krigo666@lemmy.world 6 points 2 days ago

Neither are convicted criminals as presidents part of the american dream...

[–] YamahaRevstar@lemmy.world 5 points 2 days ago

Affordable goods that aren't cheap Chinese garbage are a part of the American dream though.

[–] Dimmer@leminal.space 4 points 2 days ago

So that’s the answer to egg price I assume.

Do American people dream about pricy eggs?

[–] False@lemmy.world 3 points 2 days ago

The American Dream is home ownership and comfortably supporting a family - not like he's doing anything to make that more accessible either.
