I thought I wasn’t good at monologuing until I had to do a 10 minute speech for a class and in my practice runs I had to keep cutting content I wanted to talk about to finally get to the 10 minute mark.

It’s Brendan, can’t you read?

They’re not asking for that, though, are they?

I can’t help but wonder if they’re from the area (or the UK at all) or if this is a fixation on two people they don’t even know. I’d be pretty upset if a stranger kept posting repeatedly about my family member’s death like that, like it’s not already upsetting enough to have someone you know die without a random person on the internet trying to use their death to rile everyone up.

Cocaine was a little stronger than you anticipated?

‘Rarest’ being totally subjective: number of speakers, rare for your area, rare for your country, whatever.

Machine translation of Armenian doesn’t seem to be available anywhere, but the English above it said ‘Watch your step’.

🙋‍♂️ I can offer being slower than you if we need to run

Functionally the same thing as a pet bird with a cuttlebone, it’s an easy calcium source.

Very metal, though!

Now imagine how badly you’d have to do it for them to fail you…

YouTube has some incredible videos for beginners on basically any craft or skill you can imagine. Whittling, mending clothes, pottery/sculpture, organizing your home, watercolor painting, carpentry, cooking and baking… you get the idea. Anything you’re even slightly interested in will probably have good quality videos showing you step by step how to do it.

In addition to all the satisfying activities above, consider also: contributing photos to Seek or iNaturalist (citizen science plants and animal observation/identification database), visiting local cemeteries and entering images or information based on requests on Find a Grave, and checking out what events your library has going on.

If the tester at the DMV thinks it’s dangerous for you to drive, it probably is.

I’m fine with the DMV deciding who can drive.

I considered it incredible when we had insurance that only cost $100 for an ER visit. That’s $100 to walk in the door and be seen, any treatments you get on top of that are extra.

Sears used mail‑order, cash by post, and depot pickup to bypass Jim Crow store policies. Here are the ads, policies, and outcomes.

If you see oiled animals: Don't touch them. Instead, call the Oiled Wildlife Care Network’s hotline at 1 (877) 823-6926. The sooner you call it in, the better the animal’s chance of survival.

This is a clip of the second barrel roll I saw this raven do, after the first one I thought ‘if you don’t film the next one it does you’re going to be mad at yourself!’

The wind was nice and the temperature was pleasant, and I guess the ravens were feeling it too.

Trivia: the US and Australia had the German language version of this song top music charts, while the English language version was popular in Canada, Ireland, and the UK

Queer Mercado started as a monthly pop-up event at the East L.A. Civic Center in the summer of 2021. Now, the community marketplace is launching a new residency at the historic Olvera Street plaza in downtown L.A.

The event will feature local queer-owned businesses, makeup tutorials, live artist paintings, drag performers and a fashion show.

Queer Mercado's founder, Diana Diaz, said the goal is to promote culture and inclusivity, and to empower marginalized communities in the area.

Event details: Queer Mercado will be held 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Olvera Street every Saturday through at least June.

Secret menu: Stop by Juanita's Cafe, and ask for the “queer combo.” It’s not on the menu, but you’ll get a free drink.

Remember to wear sunscreen and cover up, northern hemisphere people!

While walking outside I saw a white-breasted nuthatch doing an interesting behavior I’d never seen before: it was perched on the palm tree in the photo, and was repeatedly spreading its wings wide and swaying from side to side, almost snakelike:

When I got home I checked a reference guide, which mentioned this is a behavior that white-breasted nuthatches will do to deter nest predators. I couldn’t figure out exactly why it was doing it when I was there in person, because I didn’t see any snakes or other birds. But I did see a clue in the OP photo, and my reference even specifically mentioned this animal as a nest predator of nuthatches.

So, did everyone else see it immediately and I’m just slow? 😁

Click for the answerA squirrel tail is visible peeking out from between two fronds at the top of the picture. Squirrels will eat eggs and nestlings!

My grudge against the HRC that dates back to 2007 is slightly reduced by this image.
