If you count anything with a battery/plug as a robot that may not be too far fetched.

[–] Pirky@lemmy.world 106 points 1 year ago (1 children)

By that definition, I would say they reached that milestone quite a while ago.

[–] HowAbt2morrow@futurology.today 19 points 1 year ago

Grandpa with a pace-maker is gonna be happy!

[–] danekrae@lemmy.world 75 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (2 children)

But how often do men have sex with robots? I didn't even know we were competing...

[–] don@lemm.ee 26 points 1 year ago

There is no competition, but a shitty tabloid’s gotta make money somehow

[–] Shou@lemmy.world 3 points 1 year ago

I suppose vibrators are just a very minimalistic robot. Recon women are in the lead of this competition.

For people not from the UK: The Sun is a bad joke of a publication. I would recommend reading some of their articles if you're in the mood for a good laugh....but I don't really want them to get the clicks.

Now for the sad part: this is one of the most widely circulated news publications in the UK and people seem to read it seriously.

We've got plenty of Murdoch Press in the States. You don't have to explain what a shitty right-wing tabloid is.

[–] Johanno@feddit.org 8 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

If "Robot" includes vibrators of all variations this might already be true

this comment is going to live somewhere in my head for a while i can already tell

[–] casmael@lemm.ee 5 points 1 year ago

Yeah cool it totally lives in my head too, which is at the top of my normal human body where I keep my thoughts like normal human people do

[–] zea_64@lemmy.blahaj.zone 33 points 1 year ago (2 children)

Does that mean my girlfriend is a robot?

[–] Dunstabzugshaubitze@feddit.org 55 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (5 children)

has she ever harmed a human being, or let a human being become harmed due to inaction?

does she obey orders given by humans that do not lead to humans getting harmed?

does she protect her own existence, unless it would cause harm to human beings?

if you answered "yes" to all of the above, she seems to follows asimovs laws of robotics and thus might be a robot, if you answered "no" to any of the questions:

do you really think companies would put safety meassures into products unless they are forced to?!

[–] rockSlayer@lemmy.world 22 points 1 year ago

Also the 3 laws were specifically designed to have lots of loopholes, otherwise the stories wouldn't exist

[–] yetAnotherUser@discuss.tchncs.de 5 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (1 children)

Just test whether she can harm someone by finding someone who will anger her to such an extent that she will hit them, proving she is no robot.

Small edit because I realized it's not exactly obvious:

This is a reference to a certain chapter in "I, Robot".

[–] Mouselemming@sh.itjust.works 5 points 1 year ago

A sibling can probably do it easily.

[–] Midnitte@beehaw.org 2 points 1 year ago

What about some ethereal law... like.... what if you took the first law one more step... we could call it the zeroth law!

[–] zea_64@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 points 1 year ago

Well, she wouldn't harm me, she takes orders from me :3, and she does protect her own existence.

Throw her in a lake and see if she sinks. /$

[–] zea_64@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 points 1 year ago

I already know she's a witch

[–] KingThrillgore@lemmy.ml 29 points 1 year ago (2 children)

I can't blame them. Robots won't vote to legislate their fetuses.

Excited for automated Twitter handles to finally receive full enfranchisement.

It's the sun, they are a Murdoch tabloid famous for evading accountability for the shit they cause

One of the many reasons Liverpool is a great city is their unanimous rejection of the paper following the Hillsborough disaster. Reading the sun is a more serious crime than murder there.

[–] HowManyNimons@lemmy.world 7 points 1 year ago

That's the story of 2016.

Well men stonk stank so any time by now.

I mean, if you count vibrators...

[–] tb_@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Are there "AI" vibrators already?

[–] sag@lemm.ee 12 points 1 year ago (2 children)

[–] Nounka@lemmy.world 10 points 1 year ago

[–] Arkhive@lemmy.blahaj.zone 10 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Amazing!! My time to shine (my chrome plating)

[–] _stranger_@lemmy.world 3 points 1 year ago

I've been told I pass as chrome, but I feel like taking advantage of that this coming week would be ethically indefensible.

[–] MiDaBa@lemmy.ml 8 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Futurama imagined old phone booths would be re-purposed into suicide booths but apparently other services could be offered while on lunch break.

Data, you are fully functional, aren't you?

[–] qyron@sopuli.xyz 4 points 1 year ago

What's the next scare? FFS, people, relax.

The robot looks so bored, I feel it bro. We're just tools for some people.

[–] UltraGiGaGigantic@lemmy.ml 3 points 1 year ago

Want some get some. I'm so tired from my 3 part time jobs I don't even have the energy to take on a 4th one... giving blowjobs
