Aren't Java and JavaScript the same anyway?

[–] idunnololz@lemmy.world 1 points 57 minutes ago

I didn't get the joke until I read this and took another look.

Yeah. And Vim and VSCode are one product, as well, if configured correctly.

And why is the Ubuntu logo even on here?!

I joke!I'm joking. I'm a fully indoctrinated member of the cult of Debian. I'm actually one of the eleven people who care that there are differences between Debian an Ubuntu. And I have a shirt that expresses how much I hate Snaps.

But I bet you don't have a shirt that condemns systemd, you casual!

[–] MajorHavoc@programming.dev 2 points 6 hours ago

Lol. That's true. I couldn't find one in my size.

Java is to JavaScript as car is to carpet.

[–] drcobaltjedi@programming.dev 13 points 6 hours ago

I once told my boss that when I advertised as being a java dev when he was wondering why I was having a hard time with JS. He still didn't get it and thought one was a subset of the other. I had to explain to him that you don't drive your carpet to work, they are infact different and only share some letters in common.

One takes you places, the other is a nasty dirt magnet. Which one is which is entirely subjective.

[–] NaibofTabr@infosec.pub 40 points 11 hours ago (2 children)

Touche.

A flying nasty dirt magnet that takes you places.

So basically JavaScript with TypeScript.

[–] Im_old@lemmy.world 14 points 11 hours ago* (last edited 11 hours ago)

Oh that carpet is going to be definitively dirtier afterwards lol.

[–] ma1w4re@lemm.ee 3 points 7 hours ago

I'd say C# and Java are the same 🥶🥶🙏🙏

[–] babybus@sh.itjust.works 9 points 11 hours ago (1 children)

No. JavaScript doesn't have types. Java and TypeScript are the same though.

[–] kameecoding@lemmy.world 0 points 6 hours ago

Kotlin is much closer to Typescript than Java.

But typescript is not real OO, it's a meta language trying to make javascript useable, so basically typescript isn't like anything.

I need to make some stickers out of these...to make new friends :D

If you want the vectors for stickers https://lemmy.ca/comment/503168

what is the rust one again. It looks so familiar but eludes me

edit: it's nodejs

[–] silasmariner@programming.dev 2 points 11 hours ago (1 children)

Hey, there are two rust ones, check yerself. But the Gopher logo is pretty well known around these parts

[–] PotatoesFall@discuss.tchncs.de 3 points 11 hours ago

I'm something of a gopher myself you know

What's with the beaver crab?

[–] ma1w4re@lemm.ee 7 points 7 hours ago (1 children)
[–] zyratoxx@lemm.ee 11 points 9 hours ago

They put the Gopher (Go) face on Ferris the Crab (Rust)

[–] krippix@feddit.org 3 points 9 hours ago

Mix between Go and Rust mascots

[–] Scoopta@programming.dev 7 points 12 hours ago (1 children)

What is the ruby on rails supposed to be?...looks like ruby on rails with off colors to me, I can't place that logo. The rest of these are truly cursed tho

[–] zqwzzle@lemmy.ca 11 points 12 hours ago (1 children)
[–] Scoopta@programming.dev 3 points 11 hours ago (2 children)

Huh, weird. The rest of these are pretty closely related technologies but I'm not sure I'd consider a web framework and a pre boxed website builder all that similar

[–] MajorHavoc@programming.dev 3 points 6 hours ago

Lol. I missed that. That's hilarious.

The Ruby community has been, at times, frustrated by people thinking that Ruby is only possible to use for making websites, due to Rails past dominance as a web library.

And the technology most ubiquitous to creating a quick website is, of course, WordPress.

[–] zqwzzle@lemmy.ca 7 points 11 hours ago

I think they were just going for cursed-ness
