It was always Ralph Nader's fault.

[-] anomnom@sh.itjust.works 1 points 2 days ago

He might have blown the 2000 election for Gore and doomed the planet to runaway global heating.

[-] masterofn001@lemmy.ca 2 points 1 day ago

That was Chad's fault.

(And roger stone, and john Bolton, and the supreme court. And Pat Buchannon who was another 3rd party spoiler whom many ballots were accidentally cast. 20% of his votes came from that single county. Nothing strange at all.)

Which part's a joke? I can't tell which of you think you're being funny.

[-] masterofn001@lemmy.ca 1 points 2 days ago

Seat belts> Ralph Nader, ah fuckit, you're boring and humorless.

[-] caseyweederman@lemmy.ca 0 points 2 days ago

I think you overestimate your ability to communicate irony in text-only media.

I added a brief explanation

[-] Zagorath@aussie.zone 1 points 2 days ago

Sorry I still don't really understand. What does "unsafe at any speed" mean?

[-] Curiousfur@lemmy.world 2 points 2 days ago

It's a book by Ralph Nader calling out unsafe vehicle design in the 70's.

[-] Zagorath@aussie.zone 2 points 2 days ago

Oh damn. I didn't realise just how ahead of his time (by Anglosphere standards) Nader was. We're 50 years on and just now are the evils of motornormativity starting to be more widely understood.

[-] VinesNFluff@pawb.social 2 points 3 days ago

Now you have to explain how they relate.

I added a brief explanation

At least there's a Jamaican bobsled team somewhere in the middle

[-] M33@lemmy.sdf.org 3 points 2 days ago

The second brick is 17% SHIB coin increase

[-] GammaGames@beehaw.org 17 points 3 days ago

This is way better mirrored

also oof

[-] alsaaas@lemmy.dbzer0.com 11 points 3 days ago

To me the mirrored version just looks wrong

[-] theneverfox@pawb.social 1 points 1 day ago

Have you ever noticed how they often shake left hands in a lot of shows and movies? It's probably something about shot composition or something but...

You ever wonder if everything that comes out of Hollywood is mirrored?

[-] GammaGames@beehaw.org 11 points 3 days ago

I like that it reads left to right! Yes, it’s also pretty uncanny haha

[-] RandomStickman@fedia.io 10 points 3 days ago

Personally the original also reads left to right, the punch line being the starting domino being something that's seeming unrelated to the big final domino but both works, really

[-] GammaGames@beehaw.org 1 points 3 days ago

Fair point!

[-] Mothra@mander.xyz 7 points 3 days ago

Sorry I'm OOTL. I presume this is the much wow shiba in memes but I didn't know this caused anything to america? Can someone fill me in about some of the dominos in-between please?

[-] Maven@lemmy.zip 18 points 3 days ago

Musk and his love of memes just got appointed to a new government position at the Department Of Government Efficiency or D.O.G.E. for short.

[-] MutilationWave@lemmy.world 2 points 2 days ago

It should be said this is a newly created Department and its authorities are nebulous. Could have power over everything, nothing, or in between.

Well… not yet. But it’s part of the circus Trump is planning

[-] herrwoland@lemmy.world 1 points 3 days ago

And I was wondering why is doge coin trending so hard.

It's probably turtles all the way down, but I think "A[n] ~~British~~ animators's email segment co-star ~~mispronounces~~ misspells 90s greeting" might be an even smaller domino.

Edited to replace failing memory.

[-] sukhmel@programming.dev 1 points 1 day ago

What's the story? I think I never heard of that

[-] t_chalco@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago

Well, I misremembered half of it, but Homestar Runner was one of the many flash animations of the flash-craze heyday. Occasionally, they were puppets. From nearly 25 years ago: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=tLSgRzCAtXA

[-] lolola@lemmy.blahaj.zone 8 points 3 days ago

which one of those dominoes is my collection of rare pepes

[-] MutilationWave@lemmy.world 3 points 2 days ago

They just lost all value. Post your rarest pepe or I'll report you to DOGE.

[-] lolola@lemmy.blahaj.zone 4 points 2 days ago

I don't know bout y'all but my rarest pepe was forged in the physical world with a pencil and a sheet of paper. It was so rare and powerful that I had to split it into 7 pieces and scatter them across the land.

I'm not sure where the pieces are now exactly. Last I heard, there were two competing search teams hunting for them, one being a ragtag team of inexperienced heart-of-gold types and the other being some sort of evil empire.

I figured it'd be best not to get involved.

[-] IzzyJ@lemmy.world 2 points 2 days ago

If you had told me ten years ago that one day "°I will report you to doge" would be a valid sentence and a real threat, I wouldve died

[-] MutilationWave@lemmy.world 1 points 2 days ago

Upvote comments you reply to or I'll report you to DOGE!

[-] Curiousfur@lemmy.world 5 points 3 days ago

IIRC Pushback against "Unsafe at any speed" was the literal origin of the conservative think tank as a political movement. I think Behind the Bastards did an episode on it or maybe Stuff you missed in history class?
