They thought they were joking but it has to be not true for that type of joke to work.

[-] AshMan85@lemmy.world 15 points 4 days ago

Can't be a terrorist if they are white /s

[-] gargamel@leminal.space 63 points 4 days ago

Hey dumbasses, Trump won't be in office to stop the deployment of law enforcement this time. I predict that when Harris wins the Jan 6th crowd will be a tenth the size as last time and when they see all the cops lined up they won't do a damned thing.

[-] dylanmorgan@slrpnk.net 23 points 4 days ago

Yeah, and Capitol police will probably be much more willing to default to lethal force considering they lost a few people the last go-round.

[-] ech@lemm.ee 19 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago)

Fwiw, USSS has declared the highest level of security for that day already.

All the cops? Nah. National Guard. If it's just cops, it'll be like the scene from Braveheart when Long Shanks sends in the Irish.

[-] Kcap@lemmy.world 10 points 4 days ago

I fear it won't be centralized just in Washington this time and they could try to take many state houses that simply aren't prepared as the Capital clearly will be. There was a clip of two men walking away from Jan 6 that haunts me. They were remarking on what an incredible day it was, and one of them says, "but next time we bring the guns". If 100k armed idiots people show up at the Capital looking for a 'revolution', cops aren't going to be enough. And even worse if they take to local streets looking for anybody who opposes them. I hope the fever doesn't get that high, but I'll for sure to be staying far away from any of those crazies for a while.

[-] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 2 points 3 days ago

Send in the Guard then. And have other areas around the country on high alert. Also: watch these fuckers, and all their leaders of these little terrorist groups. Infiltrate them now, if they have not already. And the minute they start seeing them booking flights, renting cars, etc....track their movements. It's not like there weren't plenty of warnings last time around. These people were broadcasting their terrorism last time. And now they are emboldened, most of them will be just as open about it this time around.

[-] roy_mustang76@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 3 days ago

If anywhere near that amounts of armed idiots shows up to DC this time, I'm certain the National Guard will be waiting for them.

We saw the limits of relying on Capital Police and DC Metro Police last time. A Biden admin transitioning to a Harris admin is not going to make that mistake again, and the MD National Guard will probably be ready and waiting for the assistance call like the one that came way too late 4 years ago.

Ding! My prediction is it'll mostly be state capitols and voting tabulation centers.

[-] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 2 points 3 days ago

Time for a for a few "Presidential acts" then. Maybe a few of these meal team 6 types get out of line with our election system by getting violent and they meet a bad end from some trained snipers. At the same time, known liars who whip up violence are strategically taken off the air at the same time, at least for a few hours/days. I hope the administration has a lot of people on this, and all of security is on high alert against the REAL enemies within - the qons.

[-] Nougat@fedia.io 36 points 4 days ago

I will most definitely have fun watching fascists getting arrested.

If they're wearing MAGA gear, does that count as a "uniform"?

[-] cannedtuna@lemmy.world 28 points 4 days ago

Idk, I doubt the police are just going to arrest themselves…

[-] Nougat@fedia.io 21 points 4 days ago

If the police are known for anything, it's protecting their own.

When the mob heads for the Capitol again, there's going to be an imperial fuckton more police there. When the mob attacks the police again, it's gonna be "find out" time, which I fully expect will include National Guard mobilization.

[-] MyOpinion@lemm.ee 12 points 4 days ago

No playing games this time. Full Nation Guard presence the moment shit starts going down.

[-] drdiddlybadger@pawb.social 7 points 4 days ago

They should just hold congress somewhere else just for that day to fuck with them.

[-] gravitas_deficiency@sh.itjust.works 11 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago)

Eh. They should hold congress in the place it’s meant to be held.

If any sort of armed insurrection approaches the Capitol next January, they will be aggressively subdued and arrested. The reason it wasn’t done in 2021 was because Trump wanted it to succeed, and so refused to do anything. Biden doesn’t want an armed insurrection of MAGA idiots to swarm the Capitol; ergo, there will be sufficient crowd control and defense, and QRF guard units will be deployed if the situation demands it.

[-] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 2 points 3 days ago

Agreed. It should be basically a honeypot to get more of these fuckers into prison if they try another terrorist plot. If they really want to fuck around, maybe more than a few find out in a way that is beyond "only" a long prison sentence. They are even now pretending to care about Ashli Babbitt; maybe if they had a lot more Ashlis, they might finally learn their fucking lesson.

[-] vaultdweller013@sh.itjust.works 4 points 4 days ago

And if the MAGAts do bring guns I suspect the National guard will have at least one Browning M2 spill fascist blood once more.

I don’t think crew-served weapons are going to be used unless someone turns up with a goddamn killdozer.

Tear gas is almost certainly going to me more than enough. And if there are armed elements who actually try to take a potshot, they’ll be targeted surgically, not with area weapons. This is the US, not Russia.

[-] vaultdweller013@sh.itjust.works 3 points 4 days ago

Let me dream damnit!

[-] jordanlund@lemmy.world 32 points 4 days ago

1/6 will be different if Trump loses because he won't be allowed to have a gathering in D.C. That shit will be shut down faster than you can blink.

Even if Trump WINS, he still won't be allowed a gathering until the inauguration on 1/20.

[-] TropicalDingdong@lemmy.world 11 points 4 days ago

Also, the scale of protest and organizing and protest in 2020 was orders of magnitude greater than right now. Trump may have increased the aggrieved class in this country, but he hasn't expanded their on the ground organizing. The fact that the right simply isn't nearly as organized (on the ground; I'll cede they may be more organized politically) makes this a very very different threat environment.

J6 didn't emerge out of nothing. They had been organizing MANY right wing events in the run-up to J6 to get MAGA trained up and activated to show up for that kind of event, for literally months before it happened. That has not happened so far, and there really isn't time to get that kind of groundswell activated.

[-] jordanlund@lemmy.world 5 points 4 days ago
[-] TropicalDingdong@lemmy.world 2 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago)

I think your point is that it only took a few weeks to get the participants in J6 to arrive?

Yeah, what you are missing are the literal months of right wing protests at the scales of 20k, 50k+ scale, along with the hundreds of other events happening nationally in support of the MAGA movement. Go find any rosecityantifa member who was on the ground in 2020 and see what they have to say in terms of the scale of rw organizing versus now. Trump's tweet acted on a movement ,on the ground that was material, and very very real (and well funded). That movement simply isn't as present today as it was in 2020. There isn't nearly the surface area for a tweet like to act upon.

[-] dylanmorgan@slrpnk.net 3 points 4 days ago

Also, the tenor of commentary is different than it was this time in 2020. A lot more “someone should do something” and a lot less “I’m going to do something.”

[-] jordanlund@lemmy.world 1 points 4 days ago

This is true, but what I'm saying Trump's call to action was only a couple of weeks before hand.

TBH, I thought it was a lot farther back than that... Felt like they had MONTHS to prep.

[-] TropicalDingdong@lemmy.world 7 points 4 days ago

Felt like they had MONTHS to prep.

They absolutely had been. Which is what I've been saying. There had been MANY dry runs organized by the same people who organized J6. BLM and associated orgs had been countering them in DC and elsewhere, quite effectively I might add. However, after November 5th, all of the wind got sucked out of all organizing efforts nationally. Biden getting into office pretty much killed the BLM movement, because frankly, people were fucking exhausted. Going into later September, there was the "Patriot Prayer" event, and a few others I can't recall. But prior to November, DC would have easily been able to muster 2k, 5k, 10k people to come out and counter protest any right wing bullshit. That all died after election day. There were two more I can recall in November (one pretty late? 28th maybe?). The people behind the scenes organizing this event had prepped the individual participants well for J6, in that they had significant exposure to conditions in these kinds of events. By late November 2020, the counter protesters were able to muster maybe 500-600 people max, to counter approximately 20k marching from freedom plaza to the supreme court. In that event the cops attempted a kettle and the counter-protest organizers made the call to pull the plug before they got boxed in on 3 sides by white nationalists (with the support of DC police).

MAGA simply isn't remotely as organized or practiced on the ground like they were in 2020. Groups like the Proud Boys, Bougaluo, Patriot Front, they can't operate without a significant crowd to merge with and use as shield/ plausible deniability. And while surely, their ranks have grown, none of these orgs are going to be able to get 5k, let along the 50k levels that were present for the attempted coup on J6.

2024 is an entirely different threat environment.

[-] BigMacHole@lemm.ee 27 points 4 days ago

It's a GOOD THING our Justice Department gave out HUGE Consequences for LAST January 6th to Deter this kind of Behavior!

[-] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 5 points 3 days ago

I hope the response is to have overwhelming force there to protect against any of the magabrainz, and with orders to shoot.

[-] pinkystew@reddthat.com -3 points 3 days ago

No matter who's in charge the police and military control the populace, and you support it.
