The schools appear to have been careful not to refer to the event as a “protest,” describing it in their communications as a “communal prayer” and a “student-led communal Shacharit.” Their messaging about the reason for the demonstration, too, has been vague. The emails viewed by Jewish Currents do not mention Mamdani’s criticism of Israel or his condemnation of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, the two major points of tension between the mayor and the Jewish establishment.

Despite the cautious tone, it is hard to read this mustering of day-school students outside Gracie Mansion as anything other than an act of protest against Mamdani, and an implicit charge that he poses a particular threat to observant Jews in the city. “It is time for us to stand up and be heard,” the email to Ramaz parents read. “It is time to show up proudly as Jews, as New Yorkers, and as Zionists.”

My partner went to a catholic school and they tried to make them do this too, in protest of gay marriage

Most of the kids who went were just doing it to get out of class

Yeah they structure those things like that on purpose. When I attended catholic school, we had to either make a small white cross to symbolize a "baby" "killed" by abortion, or write an essay explaining why we were pro-choice. Most kids made the cross because 8th graders hate writing essays, but it has the knock-on effect of making them think that they actually did it for the stated reason. Super gross.

I was the only kid in my whole grade who wrote the essay and my nickname in school was "baby-killer" for the rest of my tenure there.

CWs for abortion and anti-abortion rhetoric are in the code of conduct, they're a very common trigger for trauma and gender dysphoria

For example transphobic content is also CWed for things like news stories discussing incidents of transphobia

Anyone else remember the Covington High School kid (Nicholas Sandmann)? He was briefly the target of a lot of anger as the face of an anti-abortion protest, and he was there as part of one of those BS Catholic school events. He wasn't the one running the show or even particularly important to it, and he was literally a child, but he happened to be the one caught on camera.

I went to a Catholic school and they organized a group of students who were already planning to go to the March For Life anti-abortion bullshit in DC or wherever.

Some chud kid suggested holding a really unhinged homophobic rally during an all-school meeting and one of the priests had a hot mic and said "Jeeeesus Christ."

They did not let him do the rally.
