made the world's sketchiest electrolysis thing using stuff i had in the house and a £50 box of electrolysis needles. getting the needle down the pore needs some practice but regulating the current is easy (adjust contact area with the spoon), and the hairs slide right out after treatment. i feel like i should apply some more effort but i'm burned out rn and just wanted to do something simple.refs:
Holy shit. This rules.
Hellyeah! Isnt it so fucking satisfying to pull a hair with a full sheath and big juicy papilla? I love it so much. I wish I could work on my face but that region is a no go for me (I'm getting it professionally done).
Some advice:
Use 2 piece needles. They make it far easier to tell when you've reached the bottom of the follicle. Pro tec is a good choice IMO for needles. Also dont believe the textbooks THEY LIE! Every hair is not at the same depth, puncturing through the follicle wall actually is a big deal, and you need to adjust per hair (you get the hang of it)
Hairs in anagen will tend to be black at the base of the hair, and shorter than the others if your unshaven (if you shave they'll be longer cause, well, theyre in anagen and actively growing lol). I find these to be the easiest to get a good clean kill on.
I'm assuming youre just doing galvanic, but if youre doing thermolysis please please read and watch everything you can. Its way easier to cause scarring with thermo.
I do want to say that insertion is a skill and is important for minimizing scarring. And its different for different hairs. E.g for straight hair you follow the hair, for curly you make a V shape, etc. There's also progressive epilation vs uhh I forget what its called but like normal epilation. Dont do progressive epilation. Just put the needle in, apply current, then remove needle and remove hair. Also if ur doing thermo or blend insertion technique becomes way more important.
Hinkle and others have videos on YouTube, and theres some textbooks on archive.org and Annas archive. Electrolysis is not super well researched and is mostly oral tradition tbhtbh, so uhhhh take everything with salt and do what works for you. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xi-kvBWxYHI
Dont over treat! Its a great way to cause scarring. Start low and slow at 100uA and go up from there. Also the 3d printable pen from Sophie is set up to fit a d-sub female contact which works really well for f shank needles, and is available in her git repo. Idk if u have access to such but it'll probs be easier and more permanent solution than a syringe and clips. That being said for the first month of near-daily treatment I was just holding the needle with alligator clips so uh yeah I'm not one to judge lol.
Ummmm, idk what else to say aside from that you are really cool and I love seeing these projects even if they terrify me lol.
Edit: ok yeah now I need to zipzap myself today, it is inspiring to see others doing it! I'm working on my own PCB for an electro machine that will do cataphoresis and anaphoresis, maybe once its done and soldered up I can post photos here!
I found a YouTube link in your comment. Here are links to the same video on alternative frontends that protect your privacy:
