Also, in both cases said chauvinistic imperialism often gets overlooked because people focus on their pop culture.

Fetishized by Americans

Do yankees really fetishize the brits? If anything I feel like they are looked down upon lol. Funny accent, bad teeth, weird food, worshipping a pedophile king...

[–] Nopeace@hexbear.net 6 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I think Americans certainly used to fetishize the brits. "Hot guy with a British accent" hasn't been a stereotype for like ever for no reason but that being said I haven't heard anyone say that in at least a decade and we most certainly do shit on the brits extensively nowadays

I think that as Amerikkkans got more exposed to non-English Europeans online, they got more and more exposed to the view of the English as obnoxious tourists with an outsized sense of their own importance.

[–] BattleshipPokemon@hexbear.net 1 points 19 hours ago

imo it was more that they got exposed to working class brits beyond just british musicians of a working class background, basically every trait of britishness fetishised abroad is a trait of the middle/upper classes and basically every trait mocked is overwhelmingly a british working class trait.

Did you not see the inauguration or the royal wedding?

[–] ghosts@hexbear.net 5 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Good point, but no I didn't watch that garbage. I guess some yanks really do hate themselves :)

To be fair I love British comedy; no beating red dwarf; never stale enough to not want another season

This has been my joke for years, Japan is the England of the east. But at least the English enjoy vegetables, beans, and fruits that're relatively cheap, affordable, and more important than anything else plentiful in general society.
