If the sight of living human bodies in any state of dress or undress makes you uncomfortable, maybe that's more your problem than theirs. Your line of etiquette logic is so easily manipulated to abuse and de-humanize people that I can't help but see it as anything but a tool of (usually misogynistic) violence.
Correct. And they are trying to solve that problem by not being in a situation that makes them uncomfortable.
That's not solving the problem. That's running away from it.
Government provided/mandated booty shorts when?
I'll support it, but only for everyone regardless of age/gender/physique.
"I'm starving, but instead of eating I'm going to try and solve world hunger first"
You can do two things at the same time. And if you're really struggling with your internal thoughts, the answer isn't skip the gym. The answer is find a gym where you're comfortable, and continue to work on your mental issues.
"Just do better" isn't a strategy for improvement. It's a cop out for those who don't want to think about solving the problem.
If seeing a woman in tight clothes drives you so crazy you can't even work out you should probably have yourself committed.
Distractions can completely derail motivation. It doesn't happen to me because of women at the gym, but if I accidentally have the wrong intrusive thought my motivation is gone and the whole workout ends. I've stopped mid run and just walked out.
Maybe you're neurotypical and don't struggle with this. But not everyone can just "man up and power through", as you're implying should be done.
Idk what to tell you. You have to control your own mind. There's no other options.
Sure. And that means recognizing when you shouldn't put yourself in uncomfortable situations.
Would you encourage people with eating disorders to buy lots of snacks and hang out in the pantry? Just control your mind?
To be honest, I kind if envy that you and your mind are so aligned. I'm not so lucky. I can't own Doritos, because I'll either eat the entire bag, or I'll think about them to the point where it's annoying. So I just avoid them. It's sad, but it's what I have to work with.
I used to have social anxiety as bad as anyone I've known. That didn't get better by avoiding situations that made me uncomfortable. It got better by putting myself in situations that forced me to talk to people and deal with my shit. Now I'm a mostly functional human being with only a moderate amount of social anxiety.
It's like a muscle, you have to stress it and practice with it to improve.
