Keep in mind this happened immediately after he beat a 12 year old Jason Todd with a crowbar and then blew him up with a bomb

And that's why I read comics

[–] ClathrateG@hexbear.net 21 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Yep they first time I read death in the family, which is hyped as this super serious emotional batman story, I got to this part and couldn't stop laughing

[–] FlakesBongler@hexbear.net 18 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Oh yeah, it's a hell of a swerve

And this is coming from someone who voted for Jason to die

[–] GalaxyBrain@hexbear.net 14 points 2 days ago (2 children)

Do we have a nom Chomsky emoji that stands in for being old? Cause I thought I was one of the more elderly users before now

[–] FlakesBongler@hexbear.net 17 points 2 days ago (2 children)

It was one of the first times I used the phone, so I must have been like 4?

I remember calling the line and it being like "Your vote for Jason Todd to die has been counted, we hope you can live with this decision... because he won't!"

[–] ClathrateG@hexbear.net 14 points 2 days ago (1 children)

we hope you can live with this decision... because he won't!"

Did you demand your money back post Lazarus pit?

[–] FlakesBongler@hexbear.net 10 points 2 days ago

I should have!

[–] GalaxyBrain@hexbear.net 8 points 2 days ago (1 children)

You were holding life and death in your hands at age 4? That must have felt cool. Also I did a quick look for thst recording from the line cause I really wanna sample it

[–] FlakesBongler@hexbear.net 7 points 2 days ago (1 children)

My parents were kind of lax when it came to supervising my media intake

My favorite movie as a kid was RoboCop

Wore down the bootleg VHS my dad bought from a guy who sold them in the parking lot of the factory he worked at

[–] GalaxyBrain@hexbear.net 6 points 2 days ago

Mine weren't lax, but they were more making sure what I watched wasnt mindless pablum more than anything else. I got a big book about special effects from the library over and over and even tried some stuff from Evil Dead before seeing it. So I wanted to see the movies themselves and it was really lucky they rented evil dead 2 instead. My dad who eas raised on Looney Tooms and stuff loved it. I for sure saw both Robocop and Alien before I was in school.

I meant to write non Chomsky instead of what could seem like his name. I dont wanna use thar cause Epstein

[–] GalaxyBrain@hexbear.net 12 points 2 days ago (1 children)

12? Damn, Batman really should not be sending him to fight adult criminals, at least let Robin have a gun, I dont care how trained, a 12 year old isnt going to be a phyacial match for someone who has hit puberty. I figured homie was 15 at the minimum. Not only is that horribly cruel to Robin, but it means he wouldnt really be useful either. Ever been punched by a twelve year old as an adult? I have cause I lived in a bad neighborhood and a child tried to mug me once. I didn't really do much, he kinda left after he couldnt do any damage, he pulled out what looked like a pairing knife and tried to see if that would get him anywhere and after that gave up. 12 year olds are super weak

[–] booty@hexbear.net 16 points 2 days ago (2 children)

Keep in mind it's capeshit, martial arts are super powers and the Robins get trained well. They're more than capable of going toe to toe with most of what Batman deals with, Joker's just on another level.

Also worth noting that "I should've had a gun" is certainly a lesson he took to heart when he was resurrected lmao

[–] GalaxyBrain@hexbear.net 8 points 2 days ago (2 children)

Oh, in that case it's totally cool good and fine that Batman turned this child into an accomplice for his vigilantism. And how is the joker on another level? He beats Robin up with a crowbar, so the martial arts cant be doing that well.

[–] Blakey@hexbear.net 6 points 2 days ago (1 children)

... I don't even read the comics but it's pretty clear that the reason the joker can beat him up with a crowbar is because the joker is "on another level" and the other villains they fight cannot, in fact, beat him up with a crowbar. It's a superhero comic, they're unrealistic and goofy. That's why I don't read them.

[–] GalaxyBrain@hexbear.net 4 points 2 days ago

Then leave my silly questions alone

[–] booty@hexbear.net 5 points 2 days ago (1 children)

And how is the joker on another level? He beats Robin up with a crowbar, so the martial arts cant be doing that well.

Joker is a better martial artist, therefore martial arts are worthless and also Joker can't be unusual? what?

[–] GalaxyBrain@hexbear.net 5 points 2 days ago

I have learned from various Kung fu movies that once you master whatever technique you study, whether normal martial arts or crowbar you suddenly do become capable of inhuman things

[–] FlakesBongler@hexbear.net 7 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I still find him annoying as the Red Hood, but what are you gonna do?

[–] GalaxyBrain@hexbear.net 10 points 2 days ago (1 children)

What if Red Hood was a guy who spread communism and made his 'hood red?

[–] FlakesBongler@hexbear.net 10 points 2 days ago (3 children)

It's still a better communist superhero than most of the other ones the big two have come up with

[–] ClathrateG@hexbear.net 6 points 2 days ago (1 children)
[–] FlakesBongler@hexbear.net 8 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Never portrayed as anything but an unrepentant villain

[–] ClathrateG@hexbear.net 4 points 1 day ago

He's tried to kill batman, p based

[–] into_highest_invite@lemmygrad.ml 6 points 2 days ago (1 children)

was that movie really bad, where superman is stalin's son? i always meant to watch it because people told me it was good

[–] FlakesBongler@hexbear.net 11 points 2 days ago (1 children)

The comic is much better

The movie does a lot of anti-communist stuff that wasn't in the comic and doesn't add anything to the story

[–] Le_Wokisme@hexbear.net 8 points 2 days ago

it's better if you turn it off before capitalism saves the day, but i don't like to do that with media because it reminds me of nazis who just watch the first half of American History X

[–] GalaxyBrain@hexbear.net 5 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (1 children)

Check out my sick Superman movie trilogy outline in the mega. If you know somwone with several billion for funding i can get to work. Or contact DC for a comic version, it'll be cheaper

[–] FlakesBongler@hexbear.net 6 points 2 days ago (1 children)
[–] GalaxyBrain@hexbear.net 3 points 2 days ago

You seem to know comics in general a lot more so any ideas or things to read to get it from essentially this to a full treatment and then maybe ill just draw the damn thing myself.

[–] ConcreteHalloween@hexbear.net 6 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Well maybe he shouldn't have been aiding the capitalist menace Batman!

[–] FlakesBongler@hexbear.net 2 points 2 days ago

Perhaps

But it also gets really racist in that way that only 80's comic books could get

[–] Redcuban1959@hexbear.net 4 points 2 days ago

He uses his ~~fart~~ laughing gas at the UN and superman sucks all of that.
