if china came out 10 years ago with a trove of emails written by comically racist 12yos who happen to be the most powerful people in the United States people would have called that a badly written black mirror episode

I don't like "everyone is twelve now" as political analysis, because it's insulting to a lot of twelve year olds who are more mature than these dickheads. I'd trust the kids I hung out with when I was twelve to run a country more than I'd trust anyone in power in the US to do so... That said, they are indeed not acting like mature adults.

But you're like... A bear. So what kind of kids hang out with a bear?

[–] alexei_1917@hexbear.net 2 points 21 hours ago

Cool kids, and kids who really need hugs. Lol.

There are a number of other places that would have the same knee-jerk dismissal based on opposition to China. Also I think China would probably view it as not conducive to its national security to take those kinds of shots at every opportunity (because such a thing has substantial risk of exposing how they got the information) as opposed to, for example, using its intelligence networks to make sure their own bourgeoisie, diplomats, etc. don't get turned into assets.

You think that isn't already happening?

I think it would happen more though

A lot of westerners already have a dim view of america, but it's not them who decides international policy, so it doesn't matter, not like the presence of american military bases is put to a public referendum, because everyone would say no. The ruling class is pro-america.

When it comes to those bases almost every time the locals get a little bit of legal power they end up suing the government because the military went and did some heinous/dangerous/negligent shit all over the locale and the locals are rightly seeking justice.
