TW: suicide???

An autopsy report seen by Newsweek showed Ge was found tied with a bedsheet, with linens around his wrists and ankles in what the report described as a "hog-tied" position. The medical examiner noted that there had been other reported incidents of people who had hung themselves having done something similar, and that there were no obvious defense wounds.

Am I missing something here? How does someone hogtie themselves and then hang themselves? How is this being considered a suicide? Am I on crazy pills?

It's not uncommon in Russia for people to commit suicide with a couple gunshots to the head, and then jumping out the window.

I use this quote all the time, and no one ever gets the reference. I understood that reference, stranger.

Which ones are “with a couple gunshots to the head, and then jumping out the window”? I don't see them.

[–] RaivoKulli@sopuli.xyz 0 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I think that guy might've been exaggerating lol

[–] SlurpingPus@lemmy.world 0 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Well, I wanted to give them a chance to show that they's not just making shit up, but what else could be expected when talking about Russia.

[–] RaivoKulli@sopuli.xyz 0 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I mean falling out of a window and getting shot are pretty common on that list. And that list only starts in 2022 lol

[–] SlurpingPus@lemmy.world 0 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

Ah, and that means that people are getting shot and falling out of a window at the same time.

[–] RaivoKulli@sopuli.xyz 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

My man, I don't think it was supposed to be taken literally...

[–] Zoot@reddthat.com 1 points 1 day ago

nervous laughter What the fuck.

[–] jdredbeard@lemmy.world 23 points 2 days ago

It's the same sense that Epstein "committed suicide."

A lot of people seem to "commit suicide" who were inconvenient to this Admin

[–] curbstickle@anarchist.nexus 33 points 2 days ago

David B. Rankin, the family’s attorney, in a statement to Newsweek: “It is truly mystifying how any detention facility can let someone leave their room, create three nooses and then hang themselves without anyone knowing. What’s worse is the lack of mental health care which could have prevented this tragedy. Mr. Ge’s death represents a totally failure on the part of the GeoGroup and the DHS.”

Seems like everyone is playing along with the claim of suicide while trying to get the details from DHS/GeoGroup.

That's how it's done in the United Soviet States of America.

We are all on crazy pills on this glorious day.

[–] wheezy@lemmy.ml 22 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

The "nothing ever happens" crowd is doing their best to ensure that, while everything happens, you remain passively accepting of it.

We can round up people into death camps while our president has clearly raped children. Just as long as you keep going to work and "feeling crazy" thinking no one cares.

The place you won't feel crazy is around other like minded people that ARE doing something. If you're not working with a group like DSA, PSL, Mutual Aid groups, or hell, even your local anarchist group, you should be.

If you feel crazy it's because you are for not doing anything. There is nothing crazy about what is happening to this country. It is textbook fascism mixed with the non action of liberals pretending to be the opposition to it. And that right now comes in the form of "pointing at bad thing" to give you a false sense of security in your inaction.

Even the comments here are filled with it. The doomerism that keeps us all from acting.

Shot himself in the head 4 times

[–] GlassHalfHopeful@lemmy.ca 13 points 2 days ago

I literally just copied the same exact passage intending to ask the same question here. I'm not understanding how this is feasible.

This is absolutely tragic, regardless of the answer. But... how is this even possible?

[–] Tylerdurdon@lemmy.world 10 points 2 days ago (1 children)
[–] Assassassin@lemmy.dbzer0.com 16 points 2 days ago (2 children)

Yes. I've also heard of Hanlons razor. Just because a philosophical concept exists doesn't mean it's universally applicable.

[–] Cocodapuf@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

Well, while we're on the topic here... I'm way more okay with applying Occam's razor than Hanlon's in this particular circumstance.

Normally I'm the first to advocate for patience and generally assuming the best of people. So I really do wish that anything about this seemed like negligence or ignorance, but with this administration, all I can see is malicious intent.

[–] Tylerdurdon@lemmy.world 8 points 2 days ago (2 children)
[–] Assassassin@lemmy.dbzer0.com 7 points 2 days ago

I used to apply it to everything, then I found out about safety's razor

[–] MrShankles@reddthat.com 3 points 1 day ago
[–] LordCrom@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago

Exactly what i came to say. How is that even possible?

[–] gnutrino@programming.dev 5 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I imagine there are legal issues with reporting anything other than the official cause of death that Newsweek don't want to get into so they just laid everything out nice and factually so that readers can come to their own conclusion...

[–] wheezy@lemmy.ml 11 points 2 days ago

That's not an excuse. If our news media isn't brave enough to call a spade a spade they are nothing more than a tool for complacency. Which they are.

A free and independent media would not be afraid to point out that a suicide as an "official" cause of death here is bull shit. That's not something covering their ass legally. I swear people don't know how US lible laws work. Saying that is clear freedom of the press. And it's really sad that we all started to pretend that the news medias job is just to repeat the words of the powerful.

[–] AA5B@lemmy.world 3 points 2 days ago

Oh I know, wasn’t this on Sherlock Holmes? They stood on a giant block of ice. When the ice melted, they were fatally hanged and the evidence disappeared

[–] orbituary@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 2 days ago
