My first thought was I’m surprised the president has unchecked martial law powers. But apparently parliament can just say no. Why would you try to do a coup this way lmao.

lmao he's having the military block the doors to parliament so they can't vote down martial law

Just a heated gamer moment, the president is rage quitting and bringing the country down with him

Just have the kkkops stand infront of the door.

Can't hold a vote in parliament if you can't get in the building.

And you loony tankoids hated the Parliamentarian but now they're good because they save your ass?

I'm a tankie but for President Yoon's 2024 declaration of martial law in South Korea, not the invasion of Czechoslovakia.

Well, he tried to stop them from assembling so they can't say no, but they broke in and scaled walls (reportedly), and then voted no.

lmfao, it only works if you're inside the magic democracy building?

[–] BashfulBob@hexbear.net 17 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Unironically. Although, if your parliament is arrested by the military, there's a certain material reality that a vote in an context won't change.

In this case, the military slow rolled implementation of the President's orders. The tanks and helicopters he called in never showed and the guard troops caved in the face of an angry mob.

So they were able to walk in and make the repeal of Marshal Law official precisely because they had the tacit support of a reluctant military.
