They really are working on making literally the worst choice on every single issue, huh

centrist Democrats have a slogan, "vote blue no matter who"

I know some centrist Democrats, and I've literally never heard them say this for any reason. I've only ever heard it said on Lemmy by people who are applying it sarcastically.

"They" is pretty fluid.

A lot of people in Washington will be fine if the Ds win, they'll be fine if the Rs win, but they will be out of a job if the people win.

A lot of those people are in the Democratic party, some of the worst of them are in Democratic leadership, some of them are in this article. I don't really think "Let's stop voting for Democrats!" is a solution to any of that, since it will do nothing at all to resolve the corruption that led to things being that way, but yes it is important to realize that Chuck Shumer among other people is completely fine with Democrats losing elections, as long as him and the assholes he hangs out with get to keep divvying up the work output of the country among themselves and not having to work all that hard.

"This is forbidden! It is illegal for you to do this!"

"Hey remember when you shot those kids?"

"Yeah but that was fine tho"

I have never seen a bright blue eye like that on an orange cat. I think Photoshop is definitely a possibility, but also, sometimes nature just does a wild artistic cat for all of us.

Who the fuck is still drinking Coca-Cola? Literally the only person I know who ever drank it habitually was my dad, and he stopped some years ago.

Dude Lemmy is such a fuckin' weird place

Have you considered that both the CCP and USA are harmful and oppressive?

They absolutely are, yes. I'm pretty sure I was explicitly making that point, and arguing against any person who would try to claim that one of them was not.

You say "no war but class war" and then tried to start a one-person struggle session.

Literally all I did, after making that one singular point, was ask the other person 4 different times what they were trying to say. They refused to elaborate, instead preferring to struggle. Oh so much struggle. I eventually got tired of the struggle and departed. So there was someone involved who was in a one-person struggle session, but I'm pretty sure it was not me.

It's a wild indication of how far things have fallen apart that for so many decades, "the US isn't going to do any crazy fuckery and it's safe to host this vital transnational infrastructure there" was working fine.

Also, completely agree. IDK where the UN should be hosted going forward, but it sure as shit should not be the US.

I didn't intentionally strawman your argument. I read something into your argument that might or might not have been there. You are really aggressively refusing to clarify whether or not it was there (and also by the by, going back and editing your past statements to say something significantly different from what they said when I responded to them), and deflecting to all kinds of stuff instead no matter how many times I ask.

I think this conversation has run its course. You're still welcome to clarify "fear mongering," but it seems unlikely that you're going to. Best of luck to you in your future endeavors.

I'm on about clarifying what exactly you mean by "fear mongering." That is literally the crux of the discussion you decided to open, and a good opportunity to expand more on what you're trying to say.

Like I said before, you might be 100% right that it was a strawman. But the fact that you keep so forcefully refusing to clarify, makes me think that probably it was not. Feel free to prove me wrong if you would like to.

I've learned that just asking simple direct questions is pure kryptonite to a particular type of Lemmy poster, and I'm here for it lol.

Inb4 the IRS gets weaponized against anyone who has large amounts in their publicly available record of who donated to the Democrats.

IDK if the Trump people are even organized enough to do something like that, but it wouldn't take all that much skill to do it.

a lazy attempt to catch me as a tankie or something

All I did was ask your take on a geopolitical issue that's really not all that complicated. It's like asking someone "How do you feel about underage prostitution" and their answer is "Stop asking irrelevant questions! It's a waste of everyone's time!"

Honestly if you'd said "obviously genocide is horrible whoever is doing it, I was talking about Peter Navarro and friends" then that would have been the end of it. I probably would have apologized about my unfair mischaracterization, because there is a certain definition of "fear mongering" for which I think you're 100% right in what you're saying. However... that's not what you said.

You still have plenty of time to answer, of course.

your responses feel tailored to deflect conversation away from the subject of the article you are commenting on.

You're the one that changed the subject away from the article topic. I responded on-topic to what you said, you just didn't like what I had to say.

Okay, so through some process, I got signed up to get emails from Chris Hedges and some other unsavory sources. They periodically come into my inbox to tell me that Ukraine is all NATO's fault or something, and I more or less ignore them as I do most of the gibberish tide that comes into my inbox, but this one drew my attention.

What do they want me to believe about Ghislaine Maxwell, I wonder?

She has given few interviews, few statements, made few attempts to interfere with the prevailing narrative that she is a monster and a predator who deserves everything she got. When you leave a lot of empty space, others fill it, project onto it their own assessments, conclusions, and theories.

Yeah, others like a jury of her peers. They projected a whole bunch of evidence into some assessments and conclusions, and that's why she's in the clink. I guess I was a little bit surprised that even they have started up with this tactic. Anyway I thought it was interesting that at least some of the propaganda brigade has taken up the mantle of "You know we shouldn't automatically assume that active predatory pedophiles are bad..."

It turns out no one was clean on OPSEC DEF CON  On Saturday at DEF CON, security boffin Micah Lee explained just how he hacked into TeleMessage, the supposedly secure messaging app used by White House officials, which in turn led to a massive database dump of their communications.…
